“Wobbly ragdoll physics welded into a war-simulator outer shell, twelve factions plus Unit Creator plus multiplayer family couch toy”
Unser Fazit
In an era where every game wants to be serious, then more serious, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator picked the opposite road — wrap a strategy shell around a physics-comedy engine and make players laugh by watching AI armies pummel each other. That choice handed it sole ownership of the "physics war comedy" lane, and four years of stable long-tail operation proved the thesis: a lightweight, shareable, all-ages box of toys can still anchor an evergreen product.
A Pillar of the Physics-Comedy Revival
Alongside Human: Fall Flat, Stick Fight, and Goat Simulator, TABS forms one of the load-bearing pillars of the indie "physics comedy revival." The shared trait of this wave is a rejection of realism and hardcore strategy in favor of visual humor you laugh at the instant you see it — a reaction against the AAA realism arms race and a return to the design sensibility of a childhood toy box. What separates TABS from its peers is the strategy framing — Goat Simulator is pure chaos and Human: Fall Flat is a puzzle, but TABS gives you just enough of a decision to make the chaos feel like the consequence of your own plan, which is a subtler and more replayable hook than either.
The numbers back the vibe. Four and a half million cumulative players, roughly 148,000 Steam reviews, and a 98 percent positive rating is a combination you rarely see in the indie space, where most titles are either high-rated but niche or popular but middling. TABS is a double honor-roll student: high score and high review count at the same time. Landfall's steady output — Clustertruck, Stick Fight, Content Warning, PEAK — keeps the studio's comedic identity coherent enough that "I play Landfall games" becomes a clear label in a player's head, and every new release instantly captures the existing fanbase.
Who Should Buy It
This is for casual players who want to brawl and laugh with friends and family. Local multiplayer is tailor-made for gatherings and couch sessions — a parent and child can sit side by side, build armies, and laugh at the physics accidents together, a "whole family laughing" scenario that is genuinely unique in the strategy genre. It is also for anyone who has snorted at a "hundred Super Peasants versus Thor" clip and wants to recreate it; the Unit Creator lets you invent any absurd unit and quietly turns you into a content creator. And it is a rare "fun but not violent" recommendation for parents — cartoon low-poly art with no real gore, where the comic tone dissolves any sense of violence. That careful handling of a "war" theme into something a parent can hand a child is itself a deliberate Landfall product decision, and it widens the audience well beyond the usual strategy demographic. If your idea of a good evening is two people on a couch arguing about whether ten giants beat a thousand farmers and then howling at the answer, this is close to a perfect purchase, and the price of admission buys the whole thing with no DLC gate in front of any of it.
Who Should Skip It
It is not for RTS players who want hardcore tactical depth and high decision density. Its strategic depth sits well below Total War, well below Homeworld, even below Mount & Blade. If you expect to micro your way out of a losing fight, TABS will disappoint you — once your decisions are made, you are a spectator. It is not for players chasing perfectly tuned competitive balance; broken units like the Super Peasant are a feature, not a bug, and the community consensus is to never sacrifice comedy for balance. And it is a thin proposition for solo players who never play with friends, since the campaign clears in fifteen to twenty hours and the sandbox demands that you supply your own experiments. If you neither enjoy inventing your own scenarios nor have anyone to play alongside, the long-tail value shrinks sharply and the game can feel thin once the campaign is done. The multiplayer is where the real magic lives, and it is honestly the part of the package you are paying for — treat the single-player campaign as an extended tutorial that teaches you the toolset, and the friends-and-family sessions as the actual product. Go in expecting a tactics engine and you will bounce; go in expecting a comedy toy box and it rarely misses.

Dear programmers, TABS is a really fun game. But please introduce a VERY SIMPLE Multiplayer mode. For example in a random multiplayer match every player gets a certain amount of points to spend on units. They dont see they the units of the opponent until it starts. The battle starts as usual... For every win the player gets ranking points and can climb in a ranking system. Thats it.. Please, that would give us endless fun ;-)))))Mehr anzeigenWeniger anzeigen

Ansonsten weiter so :)Mehr anzeigenWeniger anzeigen
