The Bloodborne animated movie is here! This time, they’re really bringing the Doll to life.

I opened my messages on the subway and was instantly hooked by this news. At CinemaCon 2026, Sony Pictures confirmed that an animated Bloodborne movie has officially entered development. For someone like me, who doesn’t usually grind through hardcore games, setting aside whether I could actually beat the monsters or not, that cold yet beautiful atmosphere alone is already unforgettable. More importantly, the studio said outright that this will be an R-rated animated film, with the goal of bringing Bloodborne’s dark, bloody, slightly cosmic-horror world to the screen in its purest form.

The teams behind the project are also pretty clear. Sony Pictures will be working together with PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation. The producer is the well-known YouTuber Jacksepticeye, and this combination doesn’t feel like one of those cases where people are just attached in name only. The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but judging from the amount of information coming out, pre-production is already moving forward. This doesn’t look like one of those vague “announcement and then nothing” kinds of news stories.

Another detail that makes this feel especially real to players is that someone has already been cast as “The Doll.” An actress posted on social media confirming that she will be playing The Doll in the Bloodborne movie—that is, the familiar Doll everyone knows. The original report did not reveal her name, but it did share her post and cosplay photos. Her line, “Wow, I’m so happy I get to be the doll in the bloodborne movie yay!” more or less confirmed the whole thing completely.

From the photos that have been released, the actress is wearing a black Gothic gown and carrying a lantern, and the overall look is impressively faithful. It feels a bit like opening an old wallpaper image and suddenly seeing the character step right out of it. The Doll was always a particularly important presence in Bloodborne. She’s quiet and unobtrusive, yet she guides the Hunter forward like a streetlamp, steadily and silently. For many players, this character’s gentleness and mystery are themselves part of what gives Bloodborne its unique atmosphere.

One more thing: making this as animation is actually more reassuring than doing it in live action. Bloodborne’s appeal isn’t just that the monsters are scary, but that dreamlike sense of unease—like walking alone down an old street late at night, where the quieter it gets, the creepier it feels. If a live-action version fails to sustain the right texture and tone, it could easily turn into a cheap horror movie. Animation, on the other hand, is much better suited to preserving the exaggerated creature designs, the religious-feeling architecture, and that visual style poised somewhere between elegance and madness. Judging by this early reveal of The Doll, the filmmakers at least seem to understand what players care about most.

Looking at the bigger trend, this is also another step in Sony’s push to bring its game IPs into film and television. But Bloodborne is a little different from most adaptations. It doesn’t draw people in through dialogue or plot twists so much as through atmosphere and experience. So the hardest part of this movie won’t be explaining the story clearly—it’ll be making people feel chilled after watching it, while also feeling that it was beautiful. If they can strike that balance, it could become something truly distinctive among game-to-animation adaptations. If they mess it up, though, players will absolutely tear it apart.

There still isn’t a huge amount of confirmed information yet, but having The Doll appear first has already started to make the casting and art direction feel clearer. For longtime players, this is obviously big news. And for lighter viewers like me, it’s also the kind of project that makes you want to click on the trailer and watch it twice. After all, not every game movie manages to establish its “vibe” before it even has a release date.
