Time Travelers Reborn Dawn DLC Gameplay Shows a Faster Pace

During gamescom 2026, Bloober Team released a five-minute official gameplay demo for Lazarus, the prequel DLC for Cronos: The New Dawn. Published through the studio's official channels, it shows the expansion moving away from the base game's slower survival-horror pace and toward faster, more aggressive combat built around a different playable character.

The first thing Lazarus signals is speed. The original game leans conservative, using scarce resources, tight spaces, and unknown threats to force hard choices. The DLC puts Pathfinder in control instead, and the combat immediately looks different. Instant teleportation, holographic decoys, and short-term invisibility turn encounters into quick bursts of movement and damage rather than endurance tests.

That role switch matters as much as the new abilities. Players are no longer controlling the base game's protagonist, Traveler ND-3576. Instead, Lazarus follows Pathfinder before they become the Watcher. Pathfinder was once an elite agent under The Collective, then was abandoned by the organization. The story finds them lying low in the Terminal Outpost while searching for the Lost Essence.

Bloober Team's stated theme for the DLC is "Defy destiny, seek her shadow", and that makes the intent clear: this is an origin story for the Watcher. It will explain how Pathfinder becomes the Watcher while also filling in more hidden worldbuilding around The Collective and the broader setting.

From a mechanical angle, the new semi-automatic weapon Gladius looks like the centerpiece of this gameplay slice. Paired with teleportation, decoys, and invisibility, it suggests the player is not waiting for safe openings to fire. They are expected to make those openings, reposition quickly, separate themselves from danger, and then press the attack.

That direction will probably make some survival-horror players cautious. Fans who come to games like Dead Space or Resident Evil for resource strain and uneasy pacing may wonder whether the increased tempo will dilute the horror. Faster movement and stronger tools can easily make fear feel like firepower if the surrounding design does not keep pace.

Bloober Team, at least from this demo, does not appear to be turning Lazarus into a pure action spin-off. The setting still sits inside the same post-apocalyptic wasteland, with the DLC returning to the ruins of Nowa Huta in Krakow, Poland. Enclosed spaces, environmental pressure, and the sense of unknown threat remain part of the presentation.

The DLC also introduces an exclusive major enemy called the Hunter, a pursuit unit sent by The Collective to track Pathfinder down. Its role is not just to be tougher than a standard enemy. Bloober Team describes it as having highly adaptive AI, which matters because the player's new speed only works if the thing chasing them can adapt as well. That balance may decide whether Lazarus holds together as horror rather than collapsing into straightforward action.

For now, Lazarus looks most relevant for players who have already finished Cronos: The New Dawn and want a clearer understanding of the Watcher's motives. Bloober Team has been explicit that this is not a standalone side story. It is a key chapter designed to fill gaps in the original game's world and help explain the Watcher's full behavior in the base game.

There is also a practical requirement: players must own the base game to play Lazarus. The DLC is expected to launch in fall 2026 for PC via Steam and Epic, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch2. Bloober Team has not yet announced an exact release date or price, so what remains is the usual pair of unknowns and a clearer look at how the full missions hold together beyond this official gameplay demo.
