Forza Horizon 6 reviews unlock May 14, debut Japan setting
Forza Horizon 6 has gone gold less than two weeks before launch, with reviews dropping May 14 at 8:00 PM Beijing time. The game releases May 19 on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Premium Edition buyers and Game Pass subscribers who upgrade get early access starting May 15. This marks the series' first Japan setting, where players tour the country as visitors attending the Horizon Festival. No PS5 version at launch, but one's expected later this year.

Frame rate stability will be the real test when reviews unlock in a week. The question is whether Japan's tracks can hold 60fps. Forza Horizon 5's Mexico map had noticeable drops on Series S, and this entry's denser Japanese environments only increase optimization demands.

About that early access: Premium Edition gets you in four days ahead, which translates to paying extra to beta test. Series veterans know the drill—launch builds always ship with issues, and waiting for day-one patches is the smarter play. Game Pass users can justify the upgrade cost against their existing subscription, so the risk is lower there.
The PS5 version arrives sometime this year, giving Xbox a solid exclusivity window. Sony players are stuck waiting, though historically, delayed ports in this series tend to run better. Launch buyers effectively QA the game for everyone else.
Japan as a setting is a series first. Cherry blossoms, Tokyo at night, mountain pass drifts—the visual appeal is obvious. But handling model matters more than scenery. A gorgeous map means nothing if the steering feels off. May 14 reviews will settle two things: whether the frame rate holds and whether the driving physics deliver.
