Could Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Resurface This Year?
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog's new sci-fi game, remains the studio's only officially confirmed project in development. First revealed at The Game Awards 2024, it is still largely under wraps a year and a half later, with little known beyond the cast. Asked on social media whether the game could appear around a September State of Play, reliable insider NateTheHate said it would make sense for Sony to show more sometime this year.
The reveal trailer sold the mood more than the mechanics, which is partly why Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet still feels so opaque. Naughty Dog moving into science fiction is interesting, but the studio has not yet shown enough of the world, systems, or structure to make clear what kind of game this really is.

The concrete picture remains thin. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is currently the only game Naughty Dog has confirmed it is developing, and it first surfaced at TGA 2024. Since that reveal, the public has had very little firm information outside the actor lineup. NateTheHate's latest comment came in response to a question about whether the game might appear at a Sony State of Play around September. His answer, in essence, was that Sony finding a time this year to show it would make sense.

That is notable, but it is not an announcement. NateTheHate is generally known for being cautious and restrained, with a strong enough track record to make the comment worth weighing. The more concrete clue is that Naughty Dog previously mentioned Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet directly in localization job listings for languages including Japanese and French.
Players have taken that as a possible sign that development has moved into a later stage. Localization work often appears in the back half of production, so the community speculation is that a formal release in 2027 could still be on the table. That remains speculation, but it is at least tied to a real hiring trail rather than pure fan speculation.
Still, the caveat is straightforward. Earlier scattered reports claimed that Naughty Dog also has two unannounced games in development: Uncharted 5, allegedly planned for 2028, and The Last of Us 3, said to be in an early stage of development. Those claims are still far from confirmed. Until Naughty Dog or Sony says something official, they belong in the realm of insider chatter and community discussion.

For Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the question is whether Naughty Dog can deliver more than polished sci-fi surfaces and expensive action. The studio's strongest work has rarely been about making places merely large. It is better at making rooms feel inhabited, using small environmental details and quiet character work to pull the player into a world.
So if luck holds, players may see official new information on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet before the year is out. When it returns, the key question is whether Naughty Dog can turn that premise into a world worth inhabiting.
