Kill the Shadow opens its Darkwater City case at 58.5 yuan
Kill the Shadow launched on Steam on August 5, 2026. Developed by Wuguang Lanying Studio and published by Phoenix Games, it is priced at 65 yuan, with a 10% launch discount bringing it down to 58.5 yuan. The Steam store page is live.

At a glance, this is a Chinese cyber-mystery AVG, but not one built only around clicking through dialogue. Kill the Shadow is also described as a domestic suspense puzzle adventure that blends role-playing, time rewind mechanics, and investigative deduction. That is a lot to put on one mystery. The question is whether those systems sharpen the case, or merely sit beside it.
The player takes the role of Officer Ah Guang, not as a rookie, but as a man returning to unfinished business. He has spent ten years in hiding, yet still keeps chasing a truth he cannot let go. The premise is built around an old case that refuses to stay closed. Official material also points to a dangerous companion called Shadow, who is more than set dressing. Shadow gives Ah Guang the power to rewind time.

Time rewind can carry a detective game, but only if the cases are built around it. At a crime scene, players can rewind everything that once happened there. In practical terms, that means the player is doing more than waiting for the next dialogue branch. You revisit the scene, catch small details, and pull together fragments that may not look related at first. If the pacing holds, the mystery should feel solved by the player, not merely watched.

The clue board is the system to watch most closely. It is presented as a more complete version of detective work: testimony, clues, and case threads all need to be organized by the player before the truth can be reached. Compared with AVGs that mostly advance through dialogue choices, that sounds more hands-on. The design puts more of the reasoning in the player's hands. One moment you are following the story; the next, you are expected to prove the logic yourself.
The setting sounds more specific than the usual neon-and-rain cyberpunk shorthand. Darkwater City includes several distinct districts, from the Steel Jungle Factory and Shipwreck Pier to the floating slum known as Pig Cage Walled City. Players investigate strange cases, meet residents across the city, and gradually piece together the truth behind the city's split ten years earlier. The game also asks players to make a final choice, so the ending is framed as a decision, not just a destination.
