Onimusha: Way of the Sword Starts Slashing September 4

Capcom has released a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, titled "Severing Fates," and announced that the game will launch on September 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Gamersky reports that the trailer follows Miyamoto Musashi to a shrine known for severing the bonds of fate, where he discovers a twisted being exploiting innocent people harboring wishes.

To be blunt, this is the kind of trailer that plays better with other people in the room. It is not a co-op session, but its setup is simple enough to grab a room quickly. Musashi walks into a shrine, finds something wrong at its core, and the victims make the hook a little meaner: innocent people with desires are being used.

The setting also avoids looking like a generic historical backdrop. Capcom says the game will visit multiple locations based on real Kyoto landmarks. One of them is Yasui Konpiragu Shrine, which is associated with the legend of severing bad relationships. As a premise, that is specific enough to stick, even before the game gets into its heavier supernatural business.

That real-world grounding is the detail that sells the premise best. When a location has an actual reference point, the trailer gives people something to talk about beyond the combat. One person watches the footage, another looks up Kyoto landmarks, and before the first monster is down, the conversation has already moved beyond the trailer. If the shrine atmosphere is genuinely oppressive in-game, playing it at night with the lights off should have some real entertainment value.

Musashi is also a lead people already have a reason to talk about. The trailer shows close-range sword combat, and the monsters have a clear sense of pressure. The appeal here is not just stylish posing. The strikes look like they carry weight, with enough impact to make each hit read clearly. With other people watching, there should be plenty for bystanders to react to.

The platform list is unusually convenient, too. With PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC all covered, shared households should have fewer platform arguments. My advice is still to wait for more gameplay footage and optimization details before deciding on a day-one purchase. If you care about the social side as much as I do, it may be better to split it with roommates and turn the whole thing into a running live commentary session.
