Sugar Apple in Another World demo is live and this village feels anything but peaceful
Palm Candy from the Other Shore: Just an Indian Story now has a demo on Steam, offering a first look at this RPG set in a fictional South Indian village. The story follows Shinu, a sharp-tongued, quick-witted young hero who longs for a quiet life, only to be pulled into a gang conflict while trying to protect his childhood sweetheart, Jita. As he searches for his kidnapped loved one, he uncovers a criminal empire running beneath the village through its so-called "palm candy."
It's a straightforward setup, but an effective one: a young man chasing peace gets dragged into a fight for his home. The game's focus is less on grand fantasy spectacle and more on an immersive narrative adventure shaped by the textures of South Indian local life.

The village is the real draw here. The pitch is clear: a lively fictional South Indian setting, a rural adventure, and a story about defending the place you call home. Along the way, you'll meet neighbors and passersby, work through stages filled with wit and warmth, and use collected and traded quest items to push the story forward and gradually uncover the truth hidden beneath the village's calm surface.
Combat also takes a more grounded approach. Shinu fights with local tools like sticks, axes, and slingshots instead of standardized weapons, with strategy playing a role alongside the action. That mix of danger, humor, and warmth gives the game a tone of its own.

What stands out most is the game's emphasis on character interaction and cultural specificity over pure system-heavy progression. Between the village setting, the crime plot built around "palm candy," and Shinu's role as a young hero pushing back against a brutal criminal group, it has a more personal angle than a lot of broader genre fare.
