Pixel roguelite Forge Ahead hits Early Access, built by four-person team
Equipment Road: Blacksmith Legend, a pixel-art roguelite from four-person indie studio Weld Frog Games, launched in Early Access on Steam April 30.

The loop is straightforward: scavenge materials across maps, forge weapons and armor back at the smithy, then field-test your gear in combat. Each expedition has a clear purpose—gather what you need to craft better loadouts.
Combat runs on the "Ouroboros Timeline" system. You plot your moves before the fight unfolds—when to strike, when to block, when to interrupt. Weapons consume different amounts of timeline slots: light weapons land more hits but take fewer slots, heavy weapons deal bigger damage but eat more slots. It's closer to chess than reflex testing.

The Early Access build includes talent trees, a compendium, and cooking-based meta-progression. The full release aims for 80+ weapons and 30+ armor pieces. Weld Frog spent two and a half years on this debut project and plans to expand content based on player feedback throughout EA.

For roguelite players who prefer planning over twitch reactions, the timeline combat is worth checking out. A four-person team delivering this level of system depth is solid work—the content roadmap ahead looks promising.
