Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUTSony's PC ports struggle to crack 710K copies while console versions hit tens of millions
Sony's first-party PC ports are underperforming: Ghost of Tsushima sold roughly 710,000 copies, God of War Ragnarök hit 300,000, Spider-Man 2 reached 260,000, and Horizon Forbidden West landed at 230,000. These same titles routinely move tens of millions of units on PlayStation.

The gap traces back to Sony's PC strategy. Waiting 2-4 years to port means the hype cycle is long dead. Players either finished the game on PS or absorbed spoilers through osmosis. PC audiences don't respond well to reheated leftovers.
Sony appears to recognize the issue. February reports indicated the company plans to tighten its PC exclusivity approach, potentially locking single-player titles back to PlayStation. Ghost of Yōtei's PC port was reportedly canceled, and Marvel's Wolverine plus Saro Cycle likely face similar fates.

The pivot addresses symptoms, not causes. PC players aren't rejecting Sony games—they're rejecting stale releases at full price. Day-one indie launches on PC regularly succeed. If Sony wants meaningful PC revenue, the options are simultaneous release or aggressive discounting. There's no middle ground.
Live-service and multiplayer titles will continue hitting PC since those need population scale. Single-player flagships are reverting to console hostage duty. PC-only players should expect several years of watching from the sidelines.
