Subnautica 2 PC specs revealed: 4K ultra demands 32GB RAM
Unknown Worlds posted the PC specs for Subnautica 2 on Steam—12GB RAM gets you 1080p/low at 30FPS, while 4K high demands 32GB. Krafton's back as co-publisher after disappearing from the store page during a legal dispute, which the developer dismissed as "just something that happened on Steam."

The requirements run steep. 2K high at 60FPS needs 32GB RAM and an RTX 4070 or RX 6900 XT. 4K maxed out calls for flagship CPUs—i9-14900K or Ryzen 9 7900X3D. The original ran fine on 8GB years ago. This jump suggests either serious visual upgrades or optimization still in the works. The recommended spec targets 1440p/medium at 60FPS with 16GB RAM.

Underwater games always hit hardware hard. Water rendering, creature ecosystems, seamless map streaming—each one murders VRAM. The first game's late-game stuttering drew complaints for years. At least this time the studio's upfront about what it takes, even if that 32GB wall locks out plenty of returning players.

The Krafton situation remains murky. A legal fight severe enough to scrub the publisher's name from Steam, now resolved with "still strongly supporting" the project. The developer's casual tone doesn't match the severity of what happened. Players don't care about internal settlements—they care whether this mess delays the game.
Wait for launch performance reports before buying. Specs this high mean day-one issues are possible. If you're still on a 30-series card, hold off or wait for price drops. Exploring the deep at slideshow framerates beats getting eaten by a Leviathan, but not by much.
