The Blood of Dawnwalker, a vampire-themed medieval dark-fantasy adventure and the debut title from Rebel Wolves, launched September 3 on PC, PS5, and XSX. According to SteamDB, the game hit 44,382 concurrent players on Steam within its first 24 hours, an all-time high for the title, and claimed the No. 1 spot on the platform's bestseller chart.

The pedigree explains much of the attention. Rebel Wolves was founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, former game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, and this is the studio's first release. The first look delivers, too: night pools around the gothic spires, candlelight creeps up the stone walls, and the shadows stretch past the bell tower. For a compulsive screenshotter like me, vampire dark fantasy is natural hunting ground, and my one criterion never changes: do I want to live in this world?

The day-one numbers are busy, too. Per SteamDB, that 24-hour 44,382 peak set the game's concurrency record and carried it straight to the top of the bestseller chart, and roughly 30,000 players were still online at the time of writing. Twitch tells a similar story: a 24-hour viewer peak of 93,036, with about 46,000 people still camped in livestreams. Plenty of those viewers haven't spent a cent — they're sampling the world through someone else's playthrough.

Reviews point the same way: Metacritic averages 83, good for "generally favorable," while 72% of Steam user reviews are positive, landing the game in "Mostly Positive" territory. That's warm, not spotless. Day-one heat proves the world pulls people in; a user score in the low seventies is a reminder that it isn't flawless.

Should you buy it? My thinking is simple. If The Witcher 3's twilit landscapes ever made you stop and stare, this debut shares that bloodline and has earned a slot on your wishlist. Still hesitating? Spend an evening in a Twitch channel — more than 40,000 people are already there with you, watching to decide whether to buy in.

As for my one criterion — do I want to live in this world? — the answer is a little contradictory. A world where even the dusk glows rust-red is plainly not built for long stays.
