Has the new version of *Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3* already been cracked right after its update—does Denuvo still work?

The offense and defense around Denuvo have increasingly come to resemble an open product iteration race over the past two years, and what happened to Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3 version 1.15 is just the latest example.

Based on the information currently available, not long after Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3 was updated to version 1.15, DenuvOwO released a Hypervisor crack patch for that version. This means that just as the publisher completed an update to the protection layer, external cracking tools followed almost in lockstep, with the time gap already compressed to a very short window. For single-player titles that rely on the launch window to recoup costs, this is not an ideal signal.

Objectively speaking, the key point of this incident is not just Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3 itself, but that cracking methods have shifted from traditional reverse engineering to a lower-level Hypervisor-based approach. Put simply, instead of directly tearing apart the game program, it first creates a layer of “virtual environment” at the operating system level, allowing Denuvo to read forged yet seemingly legitimate hardware information. As a result, the game mistakenly believes it is running on a genuine machine.

From a design perspective, this is a bit like a security system still checking access cards while outsiders have already simulated the entry control signals of the entire building. The original verification logic has not completely failed, but its interception efficiency is declining.

What is even more noteworthy is that this technology is especially friendly to AMD platforms and has already expanded to Intel. DenuvOwO is also far from an occasionally active name. According to the original information, since 2026, the group has already cracked multiple AAA titles including Resident Evil 9: Requiem, Monster Hunter: Wilds, and Stellar Blade, with Resident Evil 9: Requiem reportedly being breached just one hour after release. In industry terms, this suggests that the response speed of cracking groups is now approaching the pace at which some publishers roll out patch updates.

That said, this should not be oversimplified as a “complete victory for pirated versions.” Using a Hypervisor-based method usually requires disabling core protections such as Secure Boot, which directly increases the risk of malware intrusion and privacy leaks. For ordinary players, this tradeoff is hardly worthwhile—it is like removing the front door of your entire device’s security system just to save the cost of a single software license.

So if we are talking consumer advice, my view is very clear: legitimate users should pay more attention to the price curve and the completeness of the version, rather than letting cracking news dictate the conversation. Especially for largely single-player, narrative-driven works like Like a Dragon, what truly affects purchasing decisions remains the amount of content, optimization quality, and the strength of future discounts. A crack appearing quickly does not mean the cost of the experience is lower.

In addition, DenuvOwO core member KiriGiri has already declared an intention to create a “universal tool” aimed at wiping out all Denuvo protections with one click. Whether that claim can actually be realized is still too early to say, but the trend is already fairly clear: if this arms race continues moving toward tool-based automation, Denuvo’s period of protection for launch sales may shrink even further. For publishers, relying solely on encryption to buy time is increasingly starting to look like a second-generation product experiment—costly, while returns continue to diminish.

For players, this news is more of an industry observation; for publishers, it may already be a reminder that pricing strategy, launch timing, and platform operations all need to be recalculated.
