Phantom Blade Zero will release on October 29 for PC and PS5, according to its developer and publisher, Lingyu Fang. Sam-Wuxia, director of The Sword of the Ape, posted preorders for both platforms on social media and wrote, “I have to buy several copies to show my support!” The support from a fellow developer resonated with players.

The protagonist has just 66 days to live. Players control a swordsman whose heart has been injured and who has just 66 days to live. He must uncover the truth and destroy a conspiracy within the martial world. That premise gives the story a built-in sense of urgency. This is not simply an action game about chaining stylish moves; it ties its narrative goal to a fixed deadline. The countdown recalls the urgency of Ori and the Will of the Wisps, while the story keeps wuxia’s more restrained tone.
That premise also helps explain why Phantom Blade Zero and The Sword of the Ape are being discussed together, despite coming from different teams. Phantom Blade Zero is developed and published by Lingyu Fang, while The Sword of the Ape is a Chinese single-player action RPG developed by Chengdu Jianmaoxiong. The latter has not yet received a specific release date. Both are closely watched Chinese wuxia action projects, and their support for each other has resonated with players.

For now, confirmed details are limited to the release date, platforms, and central premise. There are still no clear answers about the full campaign, the depth of the combat system, or the PC requirements. For players interested in Chinese games, preorder interest matters less than whether the combat can carry the experience from beginning to end. The 66-day countdown is a strong concept. The real test is whether Lingyu Fang can turn it into an actual gameplay system rather than leaving it as a marketing hook.
GameGeek has already opened preorders for Phantom Blade Zero. The standard edition can be purchased with coins for savings of up to 48 yuan, and the promotion includes a draw for 100 free orders. Players ordering on PC or PS5 should confirm their platform and edition first. Everyone else is better off waiting for post-launch impressions of the combat. A strong premise is only the starting point; for an action game, the feel of the combat is ultimately what matters.
