“Finished the first game and itching to swing again? This time you're Miles, the kid Harlem raised and greets by name, with Venom and camouflage to make fights punchier than Peter's. Short and warm — just don't come for a pile of new content.”

Nuestro veredicto

This Is the Spider-Man You Play When You Want the Good Stuff Fast

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales screenshot

Look, Miles Morales is not the giant follow-up some people wanted it to be. It sits between Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and the bigger sequel as a tighter, warmer spin-off. And honestly, that matters. If you come in expecting a full new city, a massive new activity list, and a skill tree that makes the first game look small, you're going to feel the edges fast. The main story is about eight hours, and even if you clean up everything, you're usually looking at the mid-teens. That's lean.

But here's where it gets good: it doesn't waste much time. Miles gets Venom powers that make melee feel sharper than Peter's. You can blast through defenses, stun enemies, dash into fights, and send people flying in a way that gives combat a different rhythm. Camouflage also does real work. In the first game, stealth could feel like something you did until the room got annoyed with you. Here, you can actually vanish after being spotted, reset the situation, and pick enemies off one by one. That's a big deal.

And the critical response lines up with that “small but strong” read. OpenCritic has it at 84.9 with a 93.7% recommendation rate across 213 reviews, sitting in the Mighty tier. IGDB's media score is 88.6 from 16 outlets. On Steam, it's at 93% positive from 36,622 reviews, which is a loud “yeah, this holds up.” Back when it hit PlayStation, it was also the top PS Store download for its launch month, so this wasn't some side project people ignored. It was short, sure. But it landed.

Harlem Is the Part Peter’s Manhattan Never Had

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales screenshot

The thing I keep coming back to is Harlem. Not just as a place on the map. As Miles's place. That's the thing this game has that the first one doesn't quite have. Peter's New York is iconic, obviously, but a lot of the time the city is a stage. A gorgeous stage, a fun stage, but still a stage. In Miles Morales, the neighborhood knows him. People call out his name. His mom, Rio, is running for city council. The hero stuff isn't floating above the city; it's tangled up in family, neighbors, blocks, and people who actually recognize the kid under the mask.

That's why Phin Mason, the Tinkerer, works better than she probably should in a game this short. The story doesn't have endless hours to sell that relationship, so it has to hit clean. And for the most part, it does. Phin gives the campaign real emotional weight because she isn't just “the villain with tech.” She's tied to Miles's past, his guilt, and the version of himself he's trying to become. When the game focuses on that, it feels personal in a way that cuts deeper than another big city-ending threat.

That said, the map is still mostly Peter's Manhattan with winter on top. It looks great, swinging through snow is a vibe, but let's not pretend it's a brand-new playground. There are fewer side activities than the first game, fewer boss fights, and the boss fights that are here don't go especially deep. The novelty lives mostly in Venom, camouflage, and that Harlem identity. Luckily, those are the best parts.

Buy the PC Version, Unless You Wanted a Full Sequel

If you're asking which version to play today, I'd go PC. Nixxes Software did the kind of port that actually makes the game feel current: unlocked frame rates, ray tracing, DLSS 3, and settings that scale well enough to run on a 6GB GTX 1060. That's not just a checkbox list. For a game built around speed, swinging, reflections, snow, and quick camera movement, the smoother PC version really does make the whole thing feel better. If your rig can push it, this is the best way to play Miles Morales now.

So here's the buying advice. If you played Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and walked away wanting more of that feel, but tighter, warmer, and more focused, this is absolutely for you. If you want a superhero story you can finish in a weekend and still remember the emotional beats, Miles Morales earns its place. It's single player, third person, action, stealth, open world Spider-Man, but with a different flavor. Smaller, more personal, more local.

But if you're shopping for a huge standalone sequel, don't talk yourself into this and then get mad at it. The skill tree is pared back. The side content is thinner. The city eventually feels familiar because, well, it is familiar. This is not the game that reinvents Spider-Man. It's the game that proves Miles deserves the mask. For me, that's an 8 out of 10: easy to recommend to the right person, easy to over-sell to the wrong one.
