Is *Absolute Demonic Power* Coming to Switch 2? Is the Physical Edition More Worth Waiting For?
Side-scrolling beat ’em ups have been making a comeback in recent years, but there still aren’t many titles that truly blend feel, pacing, and replay value into one cohesive package. Absolum coming to Nintendo Switch 2 is definitely welcome news for players who love grinding through stages on a handheld. More importantly, it’s not just getting a digital release—there will also be a physical cartridge version later on, and that cartridge will include the full game. That’s especially friendly for collectors and players who trade games second-hand.

First, here’s the confirmed release timeline so far: the game originally launched on PlayStation platforms in October 2025, followed by a PC version via Steam, and then expanded to Xbox Series in March 2026. Now, Dotemu, together with Guard Crush Games and Supamonks, has confirmed that the game’s next stop is Switch 2, though the exact release date has not yet been announced. In other words, Switch 2 players can add it to their watchlist for now, but shouldn’t expect a precise launch window anytime soon.
In terms of genre, Absolum isn’t just a straightforward retro tribute-style side-scrolling action game. It focuses on scrolling beat ’em up combat with roguelite elements. Players will need to rely on magic, counter mechanics, and each hero’s unique abilities to push forward and eventually take on the Sun King Azra. With four playable characters, co-op mode, and procedurally generated content, the game’s goal is pretty clear: it’s not meant to be something you finish once and shelve, but something that encourages repeated runs, different builds, and experimenting with team synergies.

If you already enjoy games like Streets of Rage 4, which emphasize combos, rhythm, and cooperation, then Absolum will very likely fall right into your comfort zone. At the same time, it adds another layer of roguelite randomness, making each run feel more like a tactical experiment. For the Switch 2 platform, this kind of “short-session, high-density” game structure is a great fit—it works well for commuting, spare moments, and local multiplayer sessions alike. Because of that, I actually think this port is more than just a routine platform addition; it feels like the game has found a particularly suitable home.

As for which version to buy, my suggestion is simple: if you want to jump in as soon as possible, wait for news on the Switch 2 digital release. If you care more about long-term ownership and collectibility, then keep an eye on the physical edition published by Silver Lining Interactive. What we know is that the physical cartridge includes the full game and is expected to launch in Q3 2026, which is far from common these days. One of the biggest concerns many players have now is that “the cartridge is just a launcher,” and Absolum is at least showing real sincerity on that front.

Looking at the broader trend, Dotemu has clearly understood what retro action fans want in recent years: not just a pixel filter, and not something carried purely by nostalgia, but a reconstruction of classic action foundations with modern replay-driven systems. Absolum landing on Switch 2 also suggests, in a way, that these mid-sized, gameplay-dense titles are becoming one of the most reliable types of content in a new platform’s early lineup. Now it’s just a matter of when the official release date will be announced. As long as the pricing is reasonable, this game could end up performing even better on Switch 2 than many people expect.
