Ubisoft Should Remake the First Assassin's Creed, Not the Sequels
Ubisoft just announced Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Memory Resurgence, and the player community isn't celebrating—they're confused. Why Black Flag, of all games? The 2013 title already runs fine on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S through backward compatibility. The visuals aren't cutting-edge, but they're perfectly playable. The real candidate for redemption? The original 2007 Assassin's Creed, still stranded in the past.

Foreign media outlets are echoing player frustration. They argue that the 2007 original deserves priority treatment. That franchise-defining entry has never appeared on modern console platforms and has received zero remake or remaster support. For newcomers wanting the full series arc, it's like reading a novel with the first chapter torn out—you'll never grasp Altaïr's story or experience the worldbuilding that established the Assassin Brotherhood. The series' foundation remains inaccessible.

The original Assassin's Creed has obvious design flaws. Repetitive mission structure and sluggish pacing drew criticism even at launch. But that's precisely why a remake makes sense—not just upscaling textures, but overhauling gameplay with modern design principles. Media outlets suggest Ubisoft could borrow strengths from later entries, redesigning mission flow while preserving the core experience. That approach would fill the "origin gap" in the current console ecosystem and let both veterans and newcomers rediscover the series' legendary starting point.
Commercially, remaking the original makes more sense. Black Flag has a massive fanbase, but it's fundamentally still playable. The original? It's a museum artifact, remembered only by longtime fans. If Ubisoft genuinely wants to complete the Assassin's Creed historical catalog on modern hardware, they should start at the source. Without Altaïr's first leap of faith from Damascus rooftops, there'd be no Edward sailing the Caribbean seas.
