The hotfix for *Crimson Desert* is here! Mac and Steam crashes fixed first
Compared with many large open-world games at launch, Crimson Desert’s 1.00.04 hotfix is not a major one, but its direction is very clear: first secure the most basic flow for Mac and Steam players—getting into the game, playing it, and exiting it properly. Compared with those patches that dump dozens of changes at once, this kind of “small, precise fix” feels more like plugging leaks first rather than carrying out a full overhaul.

According to information released by Pearl Abyss, version 1.00.04 is a Mac- and Steam-focused hotfix, with the core goal of fixing occasional errors and crashes that players encounter at points such as completing quests, starting the game, and ending the game. For PC and Mac users, problems like these hurt the experience more than losing a few frames; graphics settings can be adjusted over time, but process interruptions directly cut off the rhythm of play.
Compared with console platforms, this update also shows that Crimson Desert’s current stability strategy is to troubleshoot platform by platform rather than move forward in lockstep across all platforms at once. Among the fixes already implemented, the developers had previously addressed occasional errors on PS5 Pro and PS5 while viewing the world map, and also fixed animation and interaction issues when switching from other characters to Kliff; problems preventing normal startup on Xbox ROG Ally and the Xbox PC App have likewise been included in the resolved issues.

By contrast, what deserves the most attention right now is the known issues list, which was updated simultaneously to 2026/03/24 20:30 (Beijing Time). For example, after using “Wait” twice in a row, beds and campfires may no longer allow “Rest” or “Wait”; in the banking system, if no gold bars have been deposited and investment returns are negative, the total deposit amount may drop directly to zero. This banking bug has a clear impact, and the official team has also offered temporary advice: before the issue is fixed, if the deposited amount is less than 500 silver coins—that is, 1 gold bar—do not use the bank investment function.
In addition, there are currently some scattered issues that can break immersion, such as Demian or Ongka becoming transparent under certain conditions, hot air balloons being impossible to summon, some knowledge requiring two observations to learn, and Abyss being visible from the ground in certain scenes along with slight frame drops. Looking at it from another angle, combat- and quest-related bugs deserve even closer attention: for example, during the “Slaughter Spear Gregor” battle, if nearby objects are destroyed while the character dies at the same time, it may become impossible to revive and the quest may no longer progress; when using FSR4 upscaling, rain streaks can also disappear in rainy weather, accompanied by blurring or distortion.

From the perspective of the cross-platform experience, Crimson Desert now looks more like it has entered a “stability-first” maintenance phase rather than a period of major content updates. Compared with some games that rush to adjust numbers and rebalance things right after launch, its most important task right now is to bring the underlying experience on different platforms onto the same baseline. For Mac and Steam users in particular, the value of this hotfix is very direct: only after crash frequency is brought down does it make sense to talk about further optimization.
For players who are still on the fence, my advice is simple: if you are on Mac or Steam and previously experienced frequent crashes when completing quests or starting and exiting the game, this patch is worth installing right away; if you are planning to jump in, it is best to avoid the bank investment feature for now and keep watching the issue involving items in the Steam pre-order Collector’s Edition Ultimate Bundle, as the official team is still investigating further. Compared with debates over graphics quality, stable performance is the more realistic deciding factor for cross-platform games at this stage.
