According to the official blog on May 10, 2026, Forza Horizon 6 is now available for preload, and the storage requirement is already the headline: 160GB on PC, with an SSD mandatory, plus 135GB on Xbox Series X and 130GB on Xbox Series S. Reddit players checking through the Xbox mobile app reported specific preload sizes of 156.65GB on PC and 144.84GB on Xbox Series X|S.

That is not a routine install. It is the kind of number that makes players check their drives before they check the start button.

The pressure is most obvious on PC. A 1TB SSD still costs roughly $150 to $250, and two or three modern large-scale games can fill it fast. A racing game with a big map and a heavy asset load naturally needs space. That part is understandable. But understandable does not mean comfortable, and a huge preload does not automatically feel reasonable.

The community reaction has been blunt. Some players now argue that building a PC with less than 2TB of storage already feels outdated. Others say a 2TB NVMe SSD is only barely enough. The harsher take is that even 8TB is not enough. That sounds exaggerated, but the direction of travel is hard to miss.

The more annoying question is what happens after launch. Forza Horizon 5 grew from 103GB to around 150GB over time. If Forza Horizon 6 is already starting near 160GB, later car packs, events, and texture updates could push the footprint higher still.

Other big games are moving in the same direction. Crimson Desert is around 120GB to 130GB, while WWE 2K26 may reach 150GB. As for GTA6, its final install size is still unknown. Large games increasingly arrive like heavyweight contenders, taking up half the ring before the match even starts.

The practical advice is simple. If you mainly play AAA games on PC, a 2TB SSD now looks like the baseline rather than a luxury. If the budget allows, 4TB SSD storage makes more sense. If not, keep your regular games on SSD and move the backlog to a mechanical hard drive. Players with slow connections should preload early as well. At this size, a four- or five-day download could mean the race starts while you are still waiting on the install.
