Is PS5’s $349 gaming monitor worth it?

Sony officially launched its 27-inch PlayStation gaming monitor on August 28, 2026, pricing it at $349, or about RMB 2,347. First revealed during the November 2025 State of Play, the monitor is currently sold only in the United States and Japan. The pitch is straightforward: a compact desk display for PS5 and PS5 Pro, with enough PC and Mac support to stay useful beyond console duty.

At a glance, the appeal is obvious for players who want to leave a monitor on the desk and boot the console when they get home. Sony is using a 27-inch Fast IPS panel with a 2560x1440 QHD resolution, and on PS5 or PS5 Pro it supports refresh rates up to 120Hz. That lands in a sensible middle ground: sharper than 1080p, smoother than a basic TV, and small enough for close-up use.

The stand's most useful feature may be the one that does not show up on the spec sheet. It includes a built-in foldable controller charging hook, letting you place and charge a DualSense wireless controller directly on the monitor. That keeps the desk from turning into a knot of charging cables, and it makes the setup feel like a fixed PlayStation desk: controller below the screen, console ready to go, everything clean when you stop playing.

Sony also has not locked the monitor entirely to PS5 use. Connected to a compatible PC or Mac, it can go up to 240Hz, with support for VRR and HDMI VRR. In practical terms, that means it can still serve as a regular desktop display for work, browsing, and occasional PC gaming instead of becoming a screen that only makes sense when the console is on.

The real question is value. At $349, or roughly RMB 2,347, this is most clearly aimed at players who already own a PS5 or PS5 Pro and want a tidy desk setup. Buyers will probably split fast: some will see the clean layout, built-in DualSense charging, and instant-play convenience as worth the premium; others will compare it with a larger TV and move on.

If you already play close to your screen and want a simple way to bring the console experience to a desk, Sony's 27-inch PlayStation monitor makes sense. If size-per-dollar matters more than neatness and convenience, it is a harder sell.
