Saros Cycle launches today with congratulatory art from Sony's full lineup
Housemarque's Saros Cycle launched on PS5 today, with Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Sucker Punch, and other Sony first-party teams posting congratulatory art on social media.

This kind of studio-wide celebration is rare in Sony's first-party lineup. The last time we saw this level of coordination was around God of War Ragnarök's release. The attention signals Sony's confidence in Saros Cycle—understandable given Housemarque's Returnal proved the studio could reinvent roguelike mechanics.

The game takes place on Carcosa, a colony world threatened by an ominous eclipse. You play as Arjun Devraj searching for answers in this forsaken land. Housemarque has moved from Returnal's alien ruins to a planetary surface. That shift from interior to exterior spaces typically means expanded exploration scope.

For open-world enthusiasts, the question is how much of Carcosa rewards exploration. Returnal's procedurally generated levels were fundamentally linear. If Saros Cycle delivers a genuinely explorable map while keeping roguelike fundamentals intact, that's a win. Whether the eclipse mechanic restricts freedom remains to be seen.
The game is available now on PS5. Given Returnal's slow-burn reception—strong late-stage word-of-mouth but lukewarm launch—waiting for early player reports makes sense before committing.
