Assassin's Creed IV remake wishlist hits one million

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag – Memory Reset, announced April 23, has crossed one million wishlists ahead of its July 9, 2026 launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The remake's positioning is clear. Ubisoft rebuilt the game on its new Anvil engine, modernizing visuals and mechanics while stripping back to a pure single-player action-adventure experience—no RPG systems layered on top. Among series fans, this approach draws little pushback. Black Flag earned its reputation through naval combat and exploration; forcing RPG elements into the formula would likely dilute what made the original work.

How does one million wishlists measure up? Against last year's AAA remakes, it sits in the upper-middle tier. With over a year until release, there's room to grow. The real test comes down to optimization and pricing—by July 2026, players will have less patience for remakes that don't deliver. Visual upgrades need to be substantial, and frame rate performance can't show obvious weak points.

Black Flag has solid standing within the series. Its naval combat system still holds up as a benchmark. If Ubisoft preserves the original's strengths while bringing the technical experience up to 2026 standards, the project has decent odds of success. The caveat: don't announce always-online requirements or an in-game storefront right before launch. That would erase the goodwill built so far.
