Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Concept Art Leaks — Edward Looks Weathered Now

Two days before the official reveal, concept art of Edward Kenway from the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake has leaked online. The artist behind it is Kobe Sek, a senior concept artist at Ubisoft Singapore who joined the studio in 2009 and has been there for 16 years. What makes this particularly notable: Sek also worked on the original Black Flag art design back in 2013, and now returns as Senior Art Director for the remake.

Sek is a Chinese artist who graduated from The One Academy in Malaysia. His portfolio includes work on Ghost Recon and Prince of Persia, so the visual direction here should be solid.

The leaked concept art shows a noticeably more weathered Edward. His facial structure is sharper, with visible crow's feet and stubble texture that the 2013 version lacked. The original's somewhat green pirate captain now looks like someone who's actually spent a decade navigating Caribbean storms. Material differentiation has also improved—leather shows wear patterns, metal buckles have distinct reflections. These details are already apparent at the concept stage, which suggests the production team is paying attention.

Player response has been enthusiastic, with comments flooding in praising the design. The real question is whether the remake will retain the original's collection system: treasure maps, legendary ships, sea monster legends. That content alone added 40+ hours of gameplay. If Ubisoft preserves the core experience while adding new hidden elements, this remake will be worth revisiting.
