Game Freak used the recent PC Gaming Show to share new details on its action RPG Beast of Reincarnation, confirming an August 4 launch on PC and consoles while outlining the setting, key characters, and voice cast. According to development lead Kota Furushima, the game takes place in a world consumed by Kegare, a malignant force born from the Beast of Reincarnation that infects everything from plants to humans and transforms them into mutant monsters.
Rather than leaning on horror, the game seems more interested in a colder, more desolate apocalyptic tone. The premise centers on protagonist Emma, who has also been affected by Kegare. Instead of simply becoming another victim, her mutation grants her supernatural powers, including special vines that extend from her arm and let her clear obstacles and move quickly. If that traversal feels as good in hand as it looks in footage, it could be one of the game's strongest hooks.

Movement is only part of the pitch, though. The cost of Emma's power is steep: she has lost her memories of the past and has no emotions at all. Survivors fear that cold detachment and refer to her as an "eroded blank shell." That at least gives the story a sharper mystery than a more standard save-the-world setup. The question is whether Kegare stripped away her feelings, or whether she was born emotionally empty to begin with.

Emma is not traveling alone. She is accompanied by a dog named Koo, who is also infected. In a game built around mutation, ruin, and an emotionally distant protagonist, that companion dynamic should give players something warmer to hold onto.
The voice cast also helps. Emma is voiced by Yui Ishikawa, noted here for playing 2B in NieR: Automata. Akio Otsuka is also joining the cast; the reveal highlights his roles in the original Ghost in the Shell anime and Cowboy Bebop. For players less concerned with combat minutiae, that kind of voice talent still matters.

Anyone coming to action RPGs for intricate builds, hard numbers, and punishing difficulty will probably want to wait for a deeper combat breakdown. This showing was much more about the world, the characters, and the cast. But if atmosphere, character dynamics, and movement feel matter more to you, Beast of Reincarnation already looks promising. It arrives on August 4 for PC and consoles. For now, it looks like an action RPG leaning more on atmosphere, character tension, and movement than on pure systems-heavy appeal.
