Black Myth Wukong Tops 30 Million, but How Far Has It Really Lifted Chinese Single-Player Games?
The Communist Youth League of China has released China’s Youth: Strivers of the New Era and Global Contributors, formally confirming that Black Myth: Wukong has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide, with more than half of that total coming from overseas markets. The report also puts the game alongside international heavyweights such as Elden Ring, saying it has already moved into the upper tier of global single-player sales.

The headline is not just the number. It is that Black Myth: Wukong has raised the bar for Chinese single-player games, showing they can compete at a global scale.
That matters because this was never a domestic-only hit. With overseas sales accounting for more than half, the game found an audience well beyond China. A few years ago, Chinese single-player releases rarely reached that kind of international traction. The bigger shift is not only in this game’s sales, but in the ceiling it has set for the whole category.

The other takeaway is that this does not look like a one-off. The article points to new movement from Game Science, 灵游坊, 烛龙, and projects such as Tides of Annihilation, suggesting Chinese single-player games are moving from one standout hit to a field that is starting to bloom. Another domestic single-player title reaching 30 million copies in the short term still looks extremely unlikely, but Black Myth: Wukong has already pushed that ceiling higher.
