Three modders from the Bitbuilt community—YveltalGriffin, Wesk, and Ding—built a GameCube the size of a keychain. The device, called Kawaii, measures 60×60×15.8mm and runs on actual Nintendo hardware, not emulation.

The build uses OMEGA trimming techniques on a Wii motherboard, exploiting the Wii's native GameCube backward compatibility. Games load from an internal microSD card, and the unit connects to its dock via magnetic contact points. At roughly the size of a game cartridge, it runs Mario Kart and Crazy Taxi without issue.

Practicality wasn't the goal. The team explicitly prioritized "design aesthetics over usability." Heat output during gameplay requires a portable fan for cooling, and there are no plans for mass production—this is a proof-of-concept showcase.

For most players, emulators or Switch Online remain the sensible choice for GameCube games. But as a modding milestone, Kawaii demonstrates what's possible when you compress two-decade-old console hardware into pocket-sized form. The engineering alone makes it worth noting, even if you'll never own one.
