"Perceiving Quality Existence" Character 8 Revealed — This post-apocalyptic vibe really hits the spot
When it comes to 120-hour sci-fi JRPGs and action adventures, I’ve always paid more attention to concept art than to trailers. This time, the new character “8” from Pragmata revealed by Capcom immediately made me think of those key figures in Japanese sci-fi works who stay quiet yet carry major narrative weight—the vibe is spot on.

Based on the information released so far, what Capcom has shown this time is character concept art for “8.” Short light-blonde hair, a heavy utilitarian-style coat, a scarf around the neck, plus red insignias and striped accents—the overall design doesn’t just pile on flashy elements for the sake of it. Instead, it emphasizes practicality and a sense of environmental oppression, like a cool-toned variation on the more industrial sci-fi side characters in Final Fantasy. This restrained color palette in particular easily ties the character to keywords like post-apocalypse, survival, and resource scarcity.

What draws my attention even more is “8”’s expression. That calm, slightly melancholic look in the close-up isn’t just about looking cool—it feels very much like the template of a character carrying the burden of a troubled past. In Japanese works, the quieter and less flashy these characters seem, the more likely they are to end up revealing the truth behind the worldbuilding, or delivering an emotional gut punch at a crucial turning point. If Capcom can write this character’s personal arc solidly, her memorability may end up being even stronger than her visual design alone.

That said, there’s also one point worth noting here: the news we know mentions a character reveal for Pragmata, but the later game information is actually centered on Pragmata. According to the current materials, Pragmata is a sci-fi action-adventure game developed by Capcom, set to launch on April 17, 2026. The story follows protagonist “Hugh Williams” and the robot girl “Diana” on an adventure in a lunar research base. The gameplay combines shooting and puzzle-solving, and under the threat of a hostile AI, they must find a way to return to Earth.

If “8” really belongs to this entire sci-fi narrative framework, then her design direction fits extremely well with a lunar base, an AI crisis, and survival in an enclosed environment. That combination of a heavy coat and scarf isn’t just stylish—it also seems to hint at harsh conditions and a sense of long-term drifting. That makes it far more convincing than many designs that only focus on skintight futuristic combat suits. For players who love digging into lore and scrutinizing details, these are often the characters most worth following over time, because every insignia and every stripe on them could later turn out to be a clue to their identity.

In addition, judging from the trend, Capcom has become increasingly steady in recent years when it comes to character distinctiveness and worldbuilding presentation. Even if they only release a single piece of concept art, they still try to make players remember the character’s emotional tone first. My recommendation is straightforward: if you already like the combination of sci-fi adventure, enclosed-space storytelling, and a bit of Japanese-style character writing, then Pragmata is already worth putting on your wishlist. Unfortunately, there still isn’t that much information available right now. What I most want to know is whether “8” is an ally, an opponent, or the kind of seemingly gentle figure who actually holds the key to the truth.
