PS5 HD Camera Reportedly Faces Discontinuation, but Is This Accessory Still Worth Waiting For

In 2020, PS5 launched with accessories such as the Pulse headset, Media Remote, DualSense charging station, vertical stand, and HD camera. Today, those launch accessories are still in production and remain compatible with PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro—except the vertical stand. The HD camera, however, has been removed from PlayStation Direct purchase pages across regions, and it has stayed out of stock at major retail channels for over a year. In February 2026, Sony briefly restored an HD camera purchase page on PlayStation Direct, but those regional pages have now been removed again. The PlayStation website still hosts the HD camera product page, yet clicking “Buy” only redirects to the PlayStation Direct homepage, with no way to place an order.

This signal is fairly clear: high-frequency accessories like headsets and charging docks are still supplied steadily, while the camera has effectively exited the market. Compared with the Pulse headset and DualSense charging station, the HD camera has seen weak sales and lower long-term attention.

Sony keeping the HD camera info page online while purchase paths are gone looks like a lit storefront with empty shelves. Paired with prolonged stock shortages and the delisting of purchase pages, the conclusion that Sony likely stopped HD camera production and supply months ago is hard to dismiss. Once remaining inventory was cleared, the accessory largely disappeared from the market. The contrast is especially obvious because Sony did not remove Pulse headset or DualSense charging station listings in the same way.

If you are currently filling out a PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro setup, the practical priority is simple: buy what you use often. A charging station reduces daily friction, and a headset is more convenient for late-night play, so both offer stable cost-performance value. The camera is closer to a niche need; unless you have a hard requirement for streaming or specific interactive scenarios, waiting for scarce stock may cost more time and frustration than it is worth.

There is also a broader trend here. In the console accessory market, “high-frequency use + clear scenario” wins out over “a complete launch lineup on paper.” For players with fragmented playtime, a restrained approach works better: first add gear that improves every session, then consider optional extras. In many cases, the saved budget will feel more tangible when spent on two discounted games.
