Resident Evil 9 perspective data reveals 90% of Leon players chose third-person
Capcom released one-month post-launch data for Resident Evil 9: Requiem: roughly 90% of players chose third-person view when controlling Leon during their first playthrough, while Grace saw a 60-40 split favoring first-person.

The divide tracks with player expectations. Leon is a franchise veteran—players want to see his movements and appearance. Third-person over-the-shoulder view showcases character presence fully, which partly explains why RE4 Remake earned such strong reception. Grace lacks that emotional history, so first-person strengthens immersion and tension when exploring unfamiliar areas.
Regional patterns are clear. Game director Akiyoshi Nakanishi noted that Japanese and Asian players overall favor third-person view, while PC players mostly default to first-person—likely tied to PC FPS culture where mouse-and-keyboard naturally suits first-person shooting. Console players using controllers find third-person easier for spatial awareness and positioning.
RE9 supports free view switching at any time, letting players adapt to different scenarios. Switch to third-person during boss fights to track attack ranges, then flip to first-person in ventilation shafts for claustrophobic tension—this flexibility lets both camps find their comfort zone. Now that player trends have stabilized, Capcom will likely use this feedback to tune pacing in upcoming DLC level design.
