Lost Starship Marathon airs again as Sony keeps trying to fix its reputation

Sony has announced a new Play! Play! Play! livestream, and this time it will focus on Bungie’s Marathon. The game’s Season 2 went live on the evening of June 2, and Sony had hoped the new content and a free trial would bring in more players. Instead, launch night brought serious server problems, with error messages, disconnects, and players unable to get into matches.

Sony is still promoting the game, which makes sense, because once a reputation starts to slip, a single livestream or a few announcements rarely fixes it.

For now, Sony’s continued push for Marathon at least shows the game has not been quietly shelved. Bungie’s recent track record has been uneven: the studio still has name recognition, and it knows how to pitch a project, but the end result often comes with avoidable problems. On older consoles, a rough launch might have meant slow loading or long waits; here, the season starts and server errors simply lock players out.

If you have been following this from the sidelines, it is probably best not to jump in yet. Wait for the servers to settle and for the free trial to generate more reliable impressions before deciding whether it is worth the commitment. For a game like this, launch stability matters, and once that stability breaks, the rest of the experience can quickly turn into more error screens than actual play.
