I'm So Sad, So Very, Very, Sad The German censorship in Dying Light 2 is a joke I am a 34 year old gamer, and I'm still being patronized about what I'm allowed to play and how Thank you USK for Nothing Edit: what is cut? -Neutral NPCs cannot be killed -Human opponents cannot be decapitated or dismembered -Co-op mode only playable regionally(Germany) Edit 2: 172 person thinks this is funny... it's not Edit 3: Kill me Edit 4: I wish all other players in this world a lot of fun with the game... It's definitely great Edit 5: “Wubba lubba dub dub” Edit 6: you guys give me steam points, that's nice... but it's like a pain in my a.. Edit 7: Mortal Kombat 11 is uncut in Germany! can anyone understand. Edit 8: oh guys i think i'm going to go to bed now and cry myself to sleep... good night have fun with the game Edit 92534225: ------DAMN GOOD NEWS------- The Steam version of Dying light 2 is uncut, Techland has confirmed this, console versions in Germany are cut, Yes, we had already confirmed that and nothing has changed - the digital versions on the PC are uncut because there is no official ban in Germany. There are cut versions on the consoles. Rip and TearShow moreShow less
Dying Light 2 is... Moving forward, years later, still moving forward... Slowly... I decided to strike my previous review, that is no longer the game we have now, today we have a considerably better product, much better in almost every single aspect from my previous critiqué. Let's see for how long Techland can keep up this pace and how much more they can deliver, but I will be happy if The Beast fills out this gap. Like, this is my MOST awaited game, I am a giant fan of Dying Light 1 (To the point where I even reported bugs on the Techland Forums) and it was one of the reasons why I bought a PS4 back when it was released (Along with Bloodborne FOR PC WHEN SONY™) and I bought it again on my PC to play it once in a while, real gem. My "review" will be based on the prologue and a little gameplay of the open world, and is more a first impressions of things I miss from the first game and things I enjoyed from it. The good: GENERAL GOOD - Looks like everything was expanded, the story looks huge, the map is pretty well designed for parkour, and the combat looks pretty nice besides a few animation/physics issues. GRAPHICS - The graphics are beautiful, no joke, it is beautiful. It's not super top notch, but considering it is an open world game, it is phenomenal and probably the best I've seen so far. ART STYLE - The art style is brilliant. The game has that apocalyptic vibe but nature has taken over. It's pretty hard to nail this but at least in the first area, they brutally nailed it. OPEN BUILDINGS - The open buildings are back, very expanded, and it is incredible, this new mechanic where the zombies stay hibernating inside the buildings is really cool and adds a lot to the grittiness of the game. Mixed: ATMOSPHERE - Something about the atmosphere of the game looks too different from the first, the color pallet is very vibrant and kinda loses the horror vibe the first had. It's not worse, just different and unexpected. GUNS - Guns were probably removed, this is also not something that doesn't damns the game and I respect that design choice. I feel weird about it but not necessarily bad. Edit: The game is way better without guns to be honest! Harder to cheese. The bad: PHYSICS - The physics are really bad, although Techland already said it's a bug, some zombies never fall from your kicks, and the animation from kicking them out of a building is horrible. It's like "walking on the air, oops, ledge, then ragdoll to the ground". It looks like old cartoons and not natural at all, was incredible in DL1, looks bad on 2, but since it is a known but they will probably fix it. Edit: Getting better and now better, but still has a long way to go Techland! BLOOD ON SCENARIO - The blood kinda goes... Nowhere? Like, they have physics for it, looks amazing, but then it falls on the floor and vanishes, this didn't happen in DL1, it just doesn't look natural and was definitely a downgrade, which is very sad. Edit: This also looks better, but the fountains of blood still go into nowhere, a shae really. WOUNDS - I didn't see any wounds in the hits I did, once again, comparing to DL1, no Cuts, no visible damage, just dismemberment. Maybe I was unlucky but... I've seen other people talking about it so... Edit: The visible wounds were added back on the Gut Feeling update and they look VERY GOOD, I still miss the little dynamic cuts tho. XRAY - The XRAY effect was not present in any of my kills, although it was badly executed in DL1, they had a brilliant chance to make something amazing in the sequel, sadly it seems they just removed it (Again, played only prologue and a few minutes in the map). Edit: Techland also added this feature back, not as good as before but better then nothing, good job Techland! THROWING WEAPONS - Yeah, that was removed from the game. It was a cool feature, sad to see it removed. Yes I am aware there are throwable weapons in the game, like knives and spears, but I am talking about throwing your main handheld weapon, like machetes/pipes etc. DL1 had that, removed in the sequel. THE WATERSHED: These are the two most atrocious things about Dying Light 2, and the reason why this "review" is a no instead of a yes and why I refunded the game too. They are probably linked, but no matter. THE PERFORMANCE - The game is mostly stable, had a really high framerate (Among 90FPS in 1440p Digital Foundry settings). So why am I complaining? Well, it's a stutterfest! When I attack? Stutter. When I jump? Stutter. When I interact with something? Stutter. This may be linked to the next session of this review... Edit: Runs a lot better, but there is run for improvements yet F-------- DENUVO - Of course, they slipped this garbage on the game in the last day before launch. OF F- COURSE THEY DID. I don't know how much this affects the performance, since there is no way we can compare it with a version without this bloatware, but you know... It's the same feeling I had when playing RE8, same stutter, exactly when pressing a button, and that was solved when Denuvo was patched... So... Yeah... #FKDRM Edit: Denuvo Remuvo happened, thank you Techland! CONCLUSION - I am a huge fan of Dying Light, and I LIKE Dying Light 2, the dev team is clearly very (VERY) talented and the game oozes potential and style, but is it worth it right now? No... No way it is. They charged R$ 369,00 for the ultimate edition of this game, that is expensive... REALLY EXPENSIVE... Just so you have a perspective, the minimum wage of Brazil is R$ 1.212 right now. Do I plan to buy it again? Absolutely! As soon as they remove the bloatwareNUVO and fix some of the issues, I really plan to buy it again. Although I really enjoyed my brief Hour with Dying Light 2, it's simply not worth full price. You don't trust us, you add horrible DRM, you don't get the full money. (I also never did such a big review, shows how much I care for this f------- game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥). As promised, Denuvo removed game purchased, a game I could've purchased for 100% price on launch was bought with 50% off due to Denuvo. Hope it was worth it for you Techland, cause I'm sure I was not the only one. Tencent is now the owner of Techland, and WHAT'S THE FIRST THING THEY DO TO THE GAME? That's right! A IN-GAME CURRENCY. What could possibly go wrong? Also, several proof in Reddit that they will shamelessly add P2W microtransactions into the game.Show moreShow less

This MIGHT be outdated as game updates alot. Grain of salt advised. First off, I want to state: This game is MOSTLY amazing. No, I am not doing some meme or am an idiot for pressing "Not recommended", I am being honest. I loved a lot about this game. The atmosphere, the story, the side quests, the parkour, the music, hell even the characters. So why am I not recommending it? It's because this isn't Dying Light. I basically wanted Dying Light 1 with a block button so human enemies don't make me wanna wring my own neck. I somewhat got that, but they changed too much. They went from what was meant to be, essentially, a horror game/semi RPG parkour game into a full-blown RPG parkour game. I liked it in Dying Light 1 when at the end of the game, the zombies were a non-threat on the hardest difficulty. It made it feel like you became overpowered beyond belief, capable of literally instant killing a group of enemies with your bare fists, only the special infected being able to stand a chance. And even then, you can overcome them easily too. It made me feel like I earned that power, y'know? Cause it didn't happen instantly. In this? There is no instant killing zombies anymore. It's all RPG. Each individual zombie has a healthbar and they *cannot* die until it empties. There's no getting a machete and feeling the satisfaction of just cutting off 5 heads at once, no throwing a grenade and seeing the bodies scatter in all their gory beauty. No, hit this zombie with your axe repeatedly until it falls over, like you're cutting away at a tree. And god forbid you play on Hard difficulty where the zombies are bullet sponges in the beginning of the game. Speaking of which... Difficulty doesn't matter. I liked how in Dying Light you got rewards for beating the game on certain difficulties and how the most powerful items (Gold tier) ONLY dropped on the hardest one. It gave you a reason to play it. So in NG+ in DL2, I excitedly turned on Hard difficulty hoping to get some good ♥♥♥♥. The bullet sponge enemies made me look up if Hard mode was even worth it. And uh... there are no rewards. Let me repeat that: THERE ARE NO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ REWARDS! Sure, harder difficulties don't need to make the game have more, better items. But Dying Light 1 had it, why not 2? For what purpose?? You don't even get more XP either. All it does is make the game a tedious slog. And from what I've read online? After getting around 6 skill points, you can instantly kill the zombies anyways so what's the point? Onto my other criticism: THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PARKOUR. Now for the eagle-eyed (Or rather, people with a 30 second attention span) you might notice I praised it earlier. Yeah, I did. It's fun. It has a lot of moves. And that's the problem. It's way too complicated. Sure, if you learn how it works then yeah it's functional but before then? Enjoy accidentally triggering wall-runs and tic tacs and falling off buildings. And the overly-complicated parkour also means doing simple things, like climbing through a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hole, can lead to your death (I speak from experience, it took me 20 minutes. Every time I tried to vault through, I would go too far and fall off the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scaffolding). It also meant I beat the entire game not knowing I could do an air kick or a rotate jump (Even though I had them unlocked), sure the air kick was on me but I never felt the need to do an air kick or a rotate jump anyways. Air Kick didn't feel like it was dealing enough damage (In the late game anyways, I only realized I could do it *after* the final boss so that's when I tested it) and rotate jump felt like the most situational skill in any game ever. Speaking of not dealing enough damage: Parkour Combat in general! They added it in. It was a fun gimmick, but just like the above? Next to useless. Hitting with a katana I found dealt more damage in one hit than my Vault Kick did in three, so why should I do that? On the topic of weapons, here's another criticism: I nearly never needed to switch weapons out after I started getting Artifact-tier weapons. Cause I was getting them quicker than I was using them up. Yeah, and artifact tier is the highest rarity (not counting Legendary, as those are in NG+ which I only started recently). I wondered why they made it so weapons don't drop from human enemies anymore, but it's cause there's an over-abundance of them already. You become too powerful too quickly for it to be fun, except with throwing weapons which are next-to-useless. Which goes for the inhibitors too. Just put them all into stamina until you get about 220, then you've become unstoppable basically. And it also becomes a non-issue (Unless a specific safehouse or facility needs over that amount) as well, you can climb up an entire skyscraper with stamina to spare if you just wait a few seconds between the climbs. Oh there's also the massive issue of nighttime as well. Stop me if you've heard this before: They are no longer risk vs reward systems in the early game unlike in Dying Light 1, they are practically recommended. The streets are dangerous, full of zombies and Howlers can get Virals or Volatiles to chase you. But if you stay on the rooftops (Which is piss-easy) you can avoid 95% of the Howlers. So you get double XP in parkour, at the cost of basically being unable to go down on the street (Which... why would you do that anyways during the night?) so they really just... removed most of the point honestly. Also, most special infected *only* come out at nighttime. I played through the entire game and only saw A SINGLE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BANSHEE. A SINGLE ONE. AND IT WAS THE TUTORIAL FOR THE SPECIALS. And do mind, I ran around A LOT during nighttime cause I realized it was basically free XP. So all of the new types? Yeah I didn't see most of them besides their few appearances in the main story (I mean, a Demolisher only shows up once as a boss battle and never again). And yes, I went to a lot of encounters and not a single one had a Demolisher. In fact, the special infected encounters never showed up a single time in my playthrough. Maybe it was bugged? Speaking of bugs (I am really overusing this segue, I apologize), this game must've ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ been co-developed by Bethesda. I've had bugs of location markers teleporting 2 kilometers away after setting them down on a windmill only 100 meters from me, zombies running up to me and looking around before going un-alert (With me still infront of them) so I can just do a takedown, I fell through the floor once and died during the X13 quest, merchants sometimes just t-posed in the merchant screen, my character lost all animation in the equipment and skills screen and stood stiller than a Weeping Angel, I literally managed to rocket jump up to the rocket silo at the end of the game (During one of the endings) using my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grappling hook (I scaled the entire rocket chamber with a single grappling hook press??), a volatile spawned in a safehouse and died instantly, I could ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go on honestly. This isn't an early access amount of bugs, but there were way too many. I remember I once hit a Peacekeeper with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ katana sword, cutting him in half, only for his friends to rush over, look at his body and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ say "Must've been the wind" before returning to their business, even though I was standing right next to them. This game is a bit of a disappointment but no by much. I probably will play more in my spare time (Most likely stream it to my boyfriend via Discord), but when I boot the game up there is absolutely 0 guarantee I will enjoy it. I have no idea what happened, but this is only Dying Light in name and in the fact it's a parkour-zombie game. It might as well be called Dead Island 3 But With Parkour. TL;DR: Decent game, bad sequel to DL1. P.S. I mostly outlined the negatives as they outshone the positives massively. If you want more of a fair review, go look at other peoples' reviews. If they aren't just people saying "This game sucks, recommended" anyways.Show moreShow less
It feels like a lot of people are willing this game to fail, like they're salivating over having another Cyberpunk to get mad at. It's weird. If you liked the first game, you will love this one. It's much better in a lot of ways and is a better day 1 experience, but does fall down elsewhere. Parkour is excellent, dropkicking bozos off of rooftops is still amazing, and there's a nice power curve that means you shouldn't judge how it feels after two hours. You feel like a million bucks once you get the grappling hook and start Mortal Kombating every nerd you see. Your choices *do* matter, just not on the level many were expecting. It's also difficult to see exactly what can change without a manual save, quicksave, or new game plus. The aforementioned power curve does also make it less enticing to play a second time around as well, as you have to grind allll the way up again to simply sprint. The story is...not amazing, but the characters carry it. Hakon, Lawan, and Frank are great. Some of the side quests aren't quite Bloody Baron, but they are up there. Annoying that yet another AAA release is a few patches away from being what it could, but I don't think anyone at Techland is sleeping until it's where it should be.Show moreShow less
A) Look at my hours played. B) Please upvote this if you found it helpful (I want people to see this, I don't care about cred). 1) coop is fake, only the host player gets quest progression credit when you join their game. so you need to progress the story in both players' games (i.e. play twice). Also there is zero PVP. 2) game relies way to much on "loss of control of character" mechanics during combat: 1 second staggers, 2 seconds sliding on the ground, getting face-grabbed every two minutes, etc. like, STOP WASTING MY TIME. stop preventing me from playing. 3) it's unbearably grindy for a single-player game, even from the start, you are grinding for tokens of some kind at every level of the game. it's like wow used to be. but it's single player. 4) end game consists of fetch or kill quest bounties that largely involve you running around waiting for a dynamic event/npc to spawn so that you can kill it 10 times. then the game makes you wait five minutes between spawns. it's beyond boring. 5) the clothes/gear have random stats, so you spend weeks farming new gear hoping to get the "correct" stats... AND THEN TECHLAND RE-ROLLS THE STATS ON ALL YOUR CAREFULLY CURATED GEAR WHEN A NEW PATCH COMES OUT! 6) combat used to be the best part, but now it's spongy, plus they renewed their emphasis on stamina (i.e. 5 swings and you have to wait for your stamina to regen), zombies take multiple bullets to the head without dying, etc. 7) they are constantly tweaking numbers behind the scenes. "rebalancing" in a single player game, lol. for instance making zombies take 4 hits to kill even though your end-game weapon does more damage than their entire health pool. 8) story is unbelievably bland, the characters (including you) say and do things that nobody ever would in real life, annoying boss babe female love interest character, villain that is hard to believe, etc. 9) dialog choices in cut-scenes rarely matter, it's just something to click on to give the illusion of affecting the storyline. there are only a few that matter, and their consequences are so vast that you want to google them in advance, thus spoiling the story for yourself. i locked my game out of accessing the entire southern portion of the map and it's unique enemies. because i didn't google it in advance. because i noticed that the choices don't matter. Oh, and there are missable steam achievements because of collectibles you can't obtain because you were locked out of the area where they reside. 10) the game just generally doesn't respect your time, uses time-gates to artificially inflate it's "play time" advertised, and all the rewards for the tokens you grind are underwhelming. and trust me, if they're not, they WILL nerf them to be. there are tons of glitches, missions don't register as complete so you are stuck in the mission sandbox, falling through the world sometimes after completing an event, bounty objectives sometimes don't register, etc. techland won't dev-respond to this review because they know it's true and there's no good way to respond to it. the only part that is subjective is my take (everyone's take) on the story. every other point is objectively true and buying this game is like throwing your time in the trash. forget the money. it will waste your time. and most of that will be in frustration. respect your time. don't get sucked into this hole like i did. don't be a sucker like i was. Upvote this. People need to see it. I don't care about e-points. I just want to stop people from losing to this boss. EDIT: to all the people asking about my hours played: i have two monitors and i chug a lot of youtube on the other monitor. i just need something for my hands to do while i am watching commentaries and such. i also have 1000+ hours in dying light 1, and that was actually a joy. i just literally ran out of everything to do in DL1. i also have 1000+ hours in skyrim. but again, i ran out of things to do (trust me, i 100%'d that game) i'd still play it today if there was anything left. the difference between those games and DL2 is that those games provided "content". this one provides grinds. and yeah, that's something to do. so i grinded gear for myself and my three friends to use on NG+ when they finally fix coop crossplay. supposed to be this patch. but instead they rerolled the targeted stats on all the gear i farmed (hundreds of hours lost) and added another new time-gated token grind for new gear. another single player token grind. i give up, man. i give up. i'll go put 1000 hours into something new. this game just doesn't respect your time. EDIT 2: to those saying i have no life, i work in construction and furthermore i don't want a life if that means going to a bar or any other place interacting with horrible people, or whatever. i just want to educate myself on videos about nutrition, politics, and other things that interest me (while i play some game).Show moreShow less

(Final edit on Feb 28th, 2022: after beating the game, I have to stick with my negative review. I thought the fun part of the game would make me disregard all the cons but no. It is UNPLAYABLE fin coop. Bugs are everywhere, literally game breaking. Ignore all the points I had listed down below, they are nothing compared to the bugs in coop. Character can be constantly coughing and moaning, only restarting the game can fix it. Then theres the non host players having lag and stutter issue. I have 3090 with 3900x but one time the game was literally at 10 fps when I joined my gf's game. Restarting the game can't even fix that. It ONLY happens when you join someone else's game. I join my gf's, I get stutter, she joins mine, she gets stutter. The stutter causes cutscenes to be delayed for the non host players too. It sometime also triggers certain doors to be glitched for non host players. For example, I host, my gf joins, and when I open a door, it shows its opened for me then but in my gf's game it's closed and she can't open it. The story is stupid. At the end, me and my gf were just begging for this game to finish. DL1 had a lot of issues when it came out, and it took techland 3 to 5 years to fix them. Thats ok because they were new at it. But after the experience of making and fixing DL1, DL2 is still so backwards? Cmon man! I'm just way too exausted, and I don't even care about how they will fix this game in the future anymore. As I will not come back to this game ever. ) (Edit 3: I know this is a negative review ATM, but that does not mean I won't change it to positive in the future. If I write all of these feedback under a positive review, then no one would notice. I still encouraged people to buy this game, I even told my gf to get it because I know she will love this game. She has never played DL1 tho. Cheers people. :) ) (Edit 4: people say there's weather once in the center loop... Been playing 20+ hours in the center loop still nothing, not even a sight of rainy cloud. Edit 7: OK now I have been getting more weathers since hour 35+) (Edit 5: WHY ARE THERE SOOO MANY GAME BREAKING BUGS WHEN PLAYING CO-OP? So many times we cant proceed a mission because of some stupid thing that caused us.) Game is hella fun, but as mentioned by many, it indeed has a huge part that is a stepdown from DL1. First, no dynamic weathering system. The weather made DL1 feel so much more real. I really hope that the devs will add it in the future. (Edit 2: apparently there will be weathering once in the center loop, I appreciate your feedback.) Second, some of the parkour skills just don't make sense. You are not Crane that live in the time when zombie apocalypse just happened, this is 15 years after the fall. Aiden traveled 2000 km to the city yet he still doesn't know how to slide? I get it, the devs don't want to make the beginning of the game too easy but seriously, they could have that skill slot saved for more innovative parkour skills. Yet they don't, which makes the parkour in DL2 feel like DL1, which to me is repeating, lazy and boring. Third, I want to throw my broken weapons at enemies. That was such a fun thing to do in DL1 but IDK why they took it out in this game. Fourth, the physics are just not good compared to DL1. Zombies barely get hit by each other. A lot of time, I got hit by them while they were walking up to me, like they are not even in an attacking animation. It almost feels like you can be attacked by just touching their skin. Fifth, special zombies appear less frequent and makes the game less intense. Howlers can spot you way too fast and it makes night exploring so repetitive cuz you are constantly going back n forth to a UV light. Add camouflage back please. Anyways, I have all these complaints just because I loved DL1 so much and I was so so SO ready to be blown away by DL2. But I guess the higher expectation comes with the bigger letdown... DL2 is not a bad game, it is very fun, I just wish I would be playing a better version of DL1 instead of a worse version. I'm only talking about the game mechanics, I know the graphics and facial expressions are improvements. If you have never played DL1, get this game, it is fun and I can ensure you will enjoy it. If you are as crazy about DL1 as I am, wait for a couple of months. I know techland listens to their community so I have faith that they will add more features to this game and make it more fun for DL1 veterans! Edit 1: please add a quick save and load save feature. (I know you can load from the main menu but I dont want to quit to my main menu then load. I also want to have separate savefiles) (Edit 6: wall running can be so cancer sometime. Too many times I tried to jump straight on to a ledge, but instead my character grabs onto it he does wall running and make me jump straight off the building..)Show moreShow less
