Disclaimer: This post is made to the noobs of rhythm games(like me!). I come from a long background of a multitude of different rhythm games (osu!, taiko, muse dash, areca, quaver) if you couldn't tell. This game is absolutely amazing, the design is flushed out, completely bugless, no latency issues, and the charts (or maps) are stunning. Each map (or chart) is made with great care and storyboarding(background graphics) is absolutely beautiful and the best I have ever seen. HOWEVER, the biggest problem I have with this game and hence this recommendation is the inability to continue if one note is missed. This gets especially frustrating on player-made charts (or maps) where the map (or chart) gimmicks catch you off-guard, forcing you to replay large sections of the chart (or map) - only to miss a note at the same exact place (then do that another 100 times). This absolutely kills the enjoyability and the artistry of the map (or chart) maker. This post is going to fall on deaf ears as the "haters gonna hate" post on the player base and developer, but this a warning to all new players (or n00b players like me) looking to play this game. This game is made by Ben Shapiro - facts don't care about your feelings. Edit: Great feedback keep them coming! Edit 2: Since then the developers have implemented the issues I mentioned above. Goes to show how much they care about the game. Thank you Kyle and the team!Show moreShow less

Yes 40 hours, no, not recommending the game. Hear me out. (TL;DR at the end) ADOFAI (A Dance Of Fire And Ice) has one of the simpler premises i've seen for rhythm games. It's fun and addicting at first, but gets frustrating quickly. My main issue with ADOFAI is the fact that it seems to restrict mappers in the maps they can create, thus limiting the fun that can be had. If a song has one main lead to follow, or pattern that it always has, this game works wonders. But as soon as a song switches focus, or a mapper wants to focus on a new pattern in the song, it quickly falls apart. There seems to be no transition block (or note, whatevs) that allows for smooth transitions between patterns, which leads to a miss. There also lies my second issue with the game. Because of the way ADOFAI is structured, missing a note is critical. More-so than with other games like guitar hero or osu!, because here, a miss means you are DEAD, no second chances. This makes improving at ADOFAI very difficult and in my opinion, very frustrating to play. "Oh, you got though 80% of the map? Well I'm switching patterns now, so better be prepared to hit this note where for which there are no reasons to believe i should be here beforehand." This type of game really favors people who keep playing one map over and over again, (boring, imo) instead of people who like playing a wide range of maps and listen to many different songs. (imo, fun) That brings me to my third point, and my point that doesn't just affect ADOFAI, but other rhythm games as well such as Beat Saber; the lack of (good) maps, or even worse in ADOFAI's case, song variety. In ADOFAI, you are limited strictly to the songs artists have given explicit permission to use for ADOFAI, unlike games like osu! or Beat Saber. This makes it so the choice of songs mappers can well, map, is much, MUCH stricter than usual, and the outcome is even less maps. This makes improvement much harder since the maps that are available will have higher skill gaps between maps than games with many maps and songs. Now because i do realize that this review is all over the place here is the TL;DR: The good: 1) The songs that are in the "worlds" that come with the game are well mapped and fun to play 2) You can download more maps from the workshop (ill get to this in the bad as well) The bad: 1) The very strict note hitting makes the game frustrating to play, because one miss means you are dead. This makes point two so much worse. 2) There are no smooth transitions between patterns in music, which makes it very easy to miss when the song changes a pattern or lead. 3) There are not that many (good) maps that you can choose from, making improvement more difficult. 4) Bad song variety. ADOFAI mappers are limited to artists that have given approval for their songs to be used in ADOFAI. Do you want to play a song by, lets say, Pendulum? (D&B artist) Well too bad, he didnt give permission for his songs to be used in ADOFAI, so you can't play them. Overall: Can be fun, but it's just not for me past the built in worlds. Edit: I do think it should be added that this is what some people really enjoy, the insane difficulty, the hard songs, the steep learning curve of weird patterns, etc. It's just not for me.Show moreShow less
