Fun but dead.. there's maybe like 4-6 servers active at a time, which totals to less than 30 people lol.. And for most of these servers, they automatically kick low level people.. so it's pretty much a closed off game with a closed off community.. Yikes. Makes me not wanna play it if people view low levels as a detriment. Don't waste your time unless you have friends to play with.Show moreShow less
Diving into Reactive Drop on Steam was like unleashing chaos in the alien realm – it's like a rollercoaster, but with more bug splatter! From battling extraterrestrial hordes to unintentional team acrobatics, this game turns 'reactive' into a whole new level of unpredictable fun. Warning: May cause fits of laughter and sudden alliances with strangers. 10/10, would accidentally nuke aliens again!Show moreShow less
Love Alien Swarm. This fan-made revival of Alien Swarm adds new weapons, a handful of new campaigns, and options for up to 8 player coop. All the strong basics of Alien Swarm are still there and it's still as addicting and fun as the original. Also it's cool how it's tried to more directly integrate community-made mods to the game, extending its playability as you add weapon skins, character models, and even more campaigns. That being said, the game suffers from very poor matchmaking. Numerous times it's impossible to connect to certain public games and I have never successfully managed to set up a Deathmatch game, either in a private game with friends on in public. Always some issue with connection kicks people out specifically for DM. There are also bugs that need to be ironed out. On occasion, selecting a different character becomes a nightmare as the character doesn't change even after selection. This has happened a couple times and I've managed to bulldoze through it just by selecting enough times, but it appears often enough to be an annoyance. Many of the new campaigns were once fan-made mods and so usually lack the polish of the base campaign. No voiceovers, as limited as that was in the original. That said, they usually make up for it with the ingenuity of the settings. I give it a 6/10, but with the potential to be an 8 or 9 if bugs are cleaned up and the fiasco with matchmaking is improved.Show moreShow less
Same old Alien Swarm antics as before. Same old parasite panics. Feels good to stomp these bugs. I'm doing my part. Are you? Join the Interstellar Armed Forces and save those colonies. Service guarantees citizenship.Show moreShow less

Hey, hey. It's a good one, and it's 100% free (with 0% microtransaction). Because some people are still confused You do not need the original Alien Swarm downloaded nor do you need to play it. Reactive Drop is a straight upgrade and a standalone. It has everything from the original game and more. Now if yer new 'round here... Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop is (mostly) a cooperative game playable with up to 8 players. There's a fair amount of challenge depending on your difficulty and playstyles. You are able to choose from 4 different classes of marines, with 2 different characters in each class. Each characters perform different roles and skills that dictate how you play the game. You can also pick from a large variety of unique equipments to better suit your roles. Support each other, complete objectives, and make sure at least one of you make it to extraction alive. So what's different? More maps! And workshop, too. The major bad thing I felt with the original game was the repetition and lack of contents. Luckily, Reactive Drop adds a hefty amount of spice and hopefully more with user contribution. Level cap went from 27 to 31 and, of course, that means 4 new equipments were added. Other than that, not much has changed from the original. It plays exactly the same, so my fellow returnees, go nuts. Oh, your levels and promos didn't carry over, btw. Enjoy the grind. If I wanna be nitpicky I was overjoyed when a game I'm fairly familiar with comes up with new territory. But they are not without flaws, both old and new. Since the game is practically the same, it shares the same cons. I didn't mention it before so this will be the whole package. Levels The level up system sucks. You unlock one item every level, something you might not ever use, like the flashlight. Thus, not every level is going to be worth your while. Of course, leveling up increases the experience required for the next one. Easy, up until the 4th promo and beyond. The grind is atrocious from here and the items you unlock are probably not the one you want to be using 90% of the time. There's 3 equipment slots and 31 levels. I mathed. Praise me. A-anyway, if you're coming back to the game like me, and you want those promos, you know how it feels. If you're new and you want to be doing this kind of thing because you're a masochist, congratulations, and welcome to the club. Balance As you can tell from topic above (I hope), equipments are not balanced. Some items are just better than the other, giving you no reason to use the latter. Now, if that's originally what the game intended to do with the level up system, that wouldn't be a problem. However, this is not a powercreep game. Equipments you unlock early can rival those you unlock at much higher levels and can leave you quite dry for a very long time if you don't get something good. I could be worse of a jerk I'll admit. I judge people by their skill level when I see what they pick as their loadout. My point above. There is a large skill gap between players. Most experienced players who have played on the highest difficulty will instinctively rush through the levels as fast as they can while avoiding whatever they can, and the new ones will turtle to fight everything they see. If you've never played the game before you don't understand that this is a bad idea. Pewpews are limited. Aliens are not. Pub games are littered with these two types of players. The slower group lack the experience to defend themselves, often getting swarmed to death and forced to spectate the rushers. It's not very fun for them. I think I can tell. This is a recommended review I don't want to dissuade you, I'm just not a very good person when it comes to praising something... or anything really. My "friends" know. They get insults instead of praises. (I love them though. Honest.) Regardless, Alien Swarm is pretty gud. It's freeeeee. Play with friends and play casual. Or else suffer pointless grind.Show moreShow less
I would still recommend this game since its free and im not trying to be too picky with free to play games i appreciate that its free very much. but got annoyed with some of the issues in game including some of these unknown character named players. Problems : 1. Everyone had to endure a long load time just to get into a game and check if its a.) already playing b.) people don't want anyone else in there c.) its already started and you cant play unless there's an NPC to change to. 2. You gotta do something with these lousy players who don't know the meaning of "PUBLIC" room. they create PUBLIC room and that bothers the rest of us trying to endure the long load times to get in a room with them and they kick you out because they wanted to play with friends only. 3. Lag ... there is some sort of lag.. and the refresh time on the servers list is expired. when you join a game which is in briefing its already half way across the map. Questions : so why not 1. DONT LOAD the MAP FIRST before the game starts ! get us in the room where we select our characters and weapons first before the leader starts the game and THEN load the map. 2. remove the kick option. only kick AFK. let these people learn how to create a game which is NOT public. 3. fix the lag. overall still a good game.. i know at some point they gonna want to earn some money on this game and they deserve it, BUT fix these issues first.Show moreShow less
