I want to like this game so badly, but the telegraphs, hit boxes, balancing, and level design are all over the place. The game is very funny though. That's pretty much the main reason I'm still playing. I've seen a lot of review praising the combat, but I find it to be very clunky. The game is pretty buggy right now as well. Hopefully after they iron out the bugs they can do some balance passes, but I'm not holding out hope that the game will hit the mark in that regard. Either way, Aggro Crab is a passionate developer that clearly cares about the games that they make. Looking forward to their next thing.Show moreShow less

The only reason I'm giving this game a thumbs down is because they did not implement a colorblind option and its been really difficult for me to sometimes do the basic combat system because of it. Before anyone says skill issue ive played every single souls game no problems. IF THEY FIX OR ADD THIS FEATURE ILL COME BACK IVE FOLLOWED THEM SINCE THE START LOVE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. BUT THIS BROKE MY HEART!Show moreShow less
This game is phenomenal, and is the first action-adventure game I've been able to play in years without stressing myself out. For context, I'm disabled. My reaction time is significantly slower than these types of games expect you to have. Like I physically can't move my hands fast enough in any accurate manner. So imagine how I felt when I heard that Aggro Crab was making this game. I know from playing Going Under that their accessibility options are second to none. I downloaded the demo, and. My god, the accessibility options turned a game I could usually never play into something I have to hold myself back from playing nonstop. You can turn off losing microplastics (currency, needed for leveling). You can turn up your shell's durability in varying degrees. You can adjust how much damage you take. You can just. Cater the game to your needs. But the most important option to me by FAR is: You Can Slow Down The Game. That's it, that's the thing I've needed for YEARS to enjoy games like this. Just more time to dodge. More time to perceive what's happening and REACT IN TIME. It's amazing an overwhelming and more games should aim for this. The characters are compelling and have such depth. The story has me utterly entranced. The combat? Oh baby, the combat is to die for. And there's so many ways to play! I've seen people go fast attacks only, or max out on big slow attacks and magic, or do like me and max out the Umami skills. You can be a glass canon or a steel wall. And it's always fun no matter what! Excited to replay this eventually but for now I'm taking my time. 100000/10 please god play this game. you will not regret it.Show moreShow less
The game is beautiful, but the gameplay lacks a lot. Boss fights are clean and enjoyable, but the average mobs out in the world have many illegible attack patterns, chain their attacks in a way where you cant dodge between them, and your own attack animations are too long and cannot be interrupted. This leads to situations where if you get hit by one attack, you basically just die from the chain damage. The game is not responsive enough to manage dodges when an opponent swings an attack, leading to many situations where you get hit after dodging. Luckily (?) The parry mechanic is a lot better than the dodge mechanic, forcing the player to essentially learn to parry/block instead of dodge. I even tested from a stand-still (not attacking) situation to make SURE attack animations aren't a factor, and i still get hit by swings when dodging. There is a dark area that makes it impossible to see where to go. I spent hours lapping the area and eventually had to google a guide because I simply couldn't find which way to go. On multiple occasions I lost audio after playing for a bit. One time the game just froze completely instead. On multiple occasions I would die to fall damage and be unable to recover my souls because my "body" was in the abyss, and I would die trying to get to it. The game has a amazing backbone, if it can just sure up combat it would be fantastic. It's a fun souls-like, but is nowhere near the responsiveness of Sekiro, Elden RIng.Show moreShow less
This game is one in a krillion, naught a shellfish cash crab. It has ambfishion. It's not too clamplicated, but also not too shrimple. It is shrimply clawsome, cuts out all the carp. I'm not squidding you when I say it is an outraygeously resharkable game. Shrimply mantastic, worth the moray I spent. It's unbeelievable, and I don't feel becrayed at all. On cod, it's crabout time you bought it But that's just my octopinion.Show moreShow less
I can't recommend this game. First, the positives. The story and writing is clever and well-done especially for a Souls-like. It's very funny. The shell gimmick is interesting enough. The accessibility options are also a nice feature. That's about all I like in the game. Now for the negatives. First, the combat. It's not great. In general, there is a lack of polish and inconsistencies when it comes to dodging, parrying, and hit-boxes. It really needed some more play-testing and general polish because as it stands it just doesn't feel good. Enemy attack patterns can feel very rough. Some attacks are telegraphed well and others come out with little to no telegraph. Also, it always felt as though enemies are sponges. No matter how much I leveled up and increased my damage output, the enemy's health always felt excessive. Second, BUGS galore. I ran into several bugs through the game that hurt the experience. Enemies attacking on uneven terrain or an incline results in some wonky behavior that doesn't feel or look good. Inputs are constantly dropped during combat and when it matters. Controls are unresponsive at times as well. Third, enemy variety. If you've played the game for two hours, then you've basically seen 80% of the enemy types in the game. Fourth, exploration. There just isn't enough meaningful loot in the game to warrant all the side paths and optional exploration. Fifth, mob density. Yet, another Souls-like that thinks gank-squads equate fun and challenging gameplay. Seriously, the ganking in this game is borderline lazy design since it's obvious the developers couldn't think of any better ways to design enemies to be more challenging. Sixth, the game is about two areas too long. The combat is overly simplistic and the shell gimmick runs it's course about 60% through the game, yet the game just KEEPS GOING. Length doesn't always equate to quality and this games feels like it struggles to justify it's runtime. There isn't any meaningful loot the player needs at that point and it feels more like filler than meaningful content. Seventh, platforming feels particularly unpolished and can be frustrating at times. I can't tell you the number of times I fell or messed up platforming sections due to bugs, controls not being responsive, or just general jank. Eighth, and this is just a personal thing, the parry mechanic is interesting and makes sense with the shell but works the exact OPPOSITE of every other game. It was frustrating having to unlearn my instinct to time parries by blocking on hit and instead block and release on hit. Overall, this is a charming, hilarious game on the surface that fails to be a worthwhile Souls-like or video game in general. The only reason I kept going was because I was sure the game was going to get fun at some point. But, it never did. It only got worse and worse and worse and then it finally ended. The only real challenge in this game comes from fighting the general lack of polish, bugs, and jank. Only buy on a STEEP sale or just play a better game.Show moreShow less

This game has so much personality and charm that it's genuinely very frustrating to give it a negative review. I had been waiting a very long time to play this and was really looking forward to it. It stars off great, the intro and beginning areas are fantastic and the first real dungeon is balanced and fun. Unfortunately every consecutive area after that is not. Immediately after getting to the main city and really kicking off the story, the combat balancing quality gets dramatically decreased. Enemies already had janky hitboxes and telegraphs to begin with, but suddenly every new enemy is just worst than the last. Dodge rolls are inconsistent, healing seems to only work if you take a pause between inputs to stop and hit the heal button, telegraphs are some of the worst I've seen in any souls or souls-like game, and enemy health and the damage they deal to you are wildly inconsistent and almost force you to toggle some of the assist settings to have a balanced combat encounter. I don't want to have to turn those on to have a decent time. That brings me to overall level design and enemy placement. You'll see this more than once if you read more negative reviews, but please for the love of god stop putting enemies on ledges when they all have the capability to fling you off before you even finish jumping up to them. There is no mantle system and enemies will start their attacks as soon as you're below them, leading you to never even get a chance to try to fight them. A few people have mentioned the camera, and yeah it's not very good, but I think there are many other glaring issues that halted my enjoyment more than the inconsistent camera. I could go on about the inconsistent hitboxes or how animations take too long for how quickly enemies attack you or things like multiple enemies taking aggro at the same time with no system to keep them from back to back spamming attacks, but other people have said those enough. I really love this dev team and like I said at the beginning, this game has so much charm. I do not regret buying this game and I will not refund it, but I do hope the devs read these reviews and take them into account for how to tune some things after they finish patching some bugs. I would really love to love this game, so I hope one day I can.Show moreShow less
