me and my old best friend used to put in a ton of hours playing this game cooperatively and since we enjoyed the game so much, we challenged ourselves to get all the achievements too. he even bought this game for me because i didnt have enough to buy it at the time, and he just wanted someone to play it with. it became one of our favorite games to play to kill time and just have fun. we also tried out a lot of workshop levels so we would never get bored. sadly, he passed away and i remember him wishing that there was more content for the game. he mentioned how there should be dlc's and maybe even an aragami 2, since at the time, it was just the base game with no dlcs yet so it felt short. a couple months after his passing, the nightfall dlc was released. i bought the dlc but i havent touched it yet to this day. and now 3 years later aragami 2 is announced. im also planning on getting aragami 2 with hopes that ill find the right person to enjoy the game with.Show moreShow less

First hour was fantastic, game looks brilliant, runs perfectly smooth, mechanics are a little clunky but are easy to use at speed. The major major downside, is the game never progresses from the tutorial, it stays exactly the same, there's nothing new to do, it's exactly the same, the only change is you get another beautiful setting to do all the same things in. The progression just isn't as exciting as it could be, if you're just executing the same generic dumb ass boring AI "bad guys" every 20 seconds. I can't say nicer things for the look of the game, or the smoothness of the game, love the concept with the "Journey" like cloak using up your abilities and recharging them in the shadow's, its brilliant, but I'm currently on the 3rd big map/level and I just can't continue, I've streamed my entire experience, and I suddenly realised I'd gone from super excited shouting laughing celebrating to almost dead silence, blink, execute, blink execute, blink execute, ok room cleared, what do I need to do? Oh yea, down a shield. Ok cool, next room, Blink execute, blink execute. ♥♥♥♥ ok, let's try do it stealthy, make it a bit more interesting, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, i'm so bored. Pro's: Great concept, great design, great music, Con's: piss poor dialogue, very dull storyline, doesn't pull you in at all, repetitiveness, poor progression. I don't like giving this a thumbs down, I'd like to give it neither, just a straight line.Show moreShow less

TLDR: In Aragami you play as an adept assassin with the ability to manipulate shadows. Aragami is a linear yet open ended stealth game allowing you to tackle missions the way you desire, whether that be a murderous assassin or a sneaky ninja. You get to explore beautiful and stylish landscapes with a charming soundtrack to enjoy. Delve into an intriguing story involving the evil army of Light and help this mysterious girl who has summoned you to this world. Complete with customisation and collectibles, Aragami is a very decent stealth game. ###Full Review### Overview Aragami is a stealth game where you play as a reincarnated spirit, summoned by an imprisoned girl who needs rescuing. It's a third person game, and has a unique game mechanic where you can create and teleport to shadows. You have a nice variety of unique unlockable abilities so you can complete missions in different exciting ways. Components Visuals - Aragami features a simple yet aesthetically pleasing visual style. The environments are gorgeous which make it a joy to roam about within them. While detailed and beautiful, the balance of simplicity means there is no visual clutter and thereby enhances the feel of the gameplay. The animations are fluid and effortlessly blend together, making a concatenation of takedowns a blissful sight. Overall I would say that Aragami is a really visually stunning game. I have some pictures here Audio - The music is nicely orchestrated oriental music. It fits the setting of the game perfectly and allows you to become immersed. In moments of action, the music ramps up to induce adrenaline. While the 'action' music does sound great, you will hear that same song every time which eventually leads to monotony. The sound effects are quite decent though they could be better. The sounds whenever your sword meets flesh is fine but feels too unvaried. Overall the audio of Aragami is really quite good. Gameplay - In Aragami you have to complete certain objectives within considerably large and open levels. You only need to reach certain areas and acquire certain items; killing optional. The antagonists, the Kaiho, have swords imbued with Light essence. They're a formidable foe that are able to instantly disintegrate you with a swing of their sword. The Kaiho do take effort and planning to take out, in order to avoid alerting nearby enemies. The game gives you decent variety of abilities to help you fight or evade them. You primary ability is possessing the power to teleport between shadows. Doing this uses Shadow essence which only regenerates when you're within a shadow. Because of this you'll be constantly lurking in and scrounging for shadows as they are an essential component of the gameplay. Your other main ability is the power to create a temporary shadow, so that you may teleport to it. These 2 abilities are the only ones you need, and you'll be using them a lot. Other abilities, such as ranged attacks and going invisible, first require unlocking using skill points acquired from scrolls. Scrolls are hidden throughout each level, but there's an ability which shows you the location of all of them. Each of the special abilities only have 2 charges, but can be replenished by finding a shrine. I'll also note that there's no health in this game, for enemies or yourself, so every attack will result in an instant kill. There's some special attacks you can accomplish, such as a drop assassination (dropping on an enemy and killing them) and a ledge kill ability (teleport up a ledge next to an enemy to kill them). The gameplay reminds me of Dishonored in a way, and I really enjoyed it. Story - The game is about an 'Aragami,' a vengeful spirit summoned who has been summoned by Yamiko. She is being held captives by a clan of light adepts known as the Kaiho. The Kaiho had fought against Yamiko's people and killed nearly all of them, taking their land. This game nicely sets up the Kaiho as really evil and malicious people. In order to rescue Yamiko, you need to break the magic seal by finding all 6 talismans. Along the way you'll get the help from a raven which will help you find your objectives. The story also explores existential aspects; the Aragami is a reincarnated person, but what was its previous identity? Functionality - You'll be pleased to here that this game does come with an FOV slider, which maxes at 90. The performance of this game is stellar, as even with max settings I never experienced any frame drops. Blood is also toggleable if that concerns you. I found this game to be mostly devoid of glitches however there were a few minor annoyances (AI gets stuck sometimes), but nothing gamebreaking. UX - This game has no HUD which I really liked, so your level of Shadow essence and number Shadow Powers you can use are conveniently displayed on your back. I found the controls to be a bit difficult in this game however. Many actions, such as opening your skill powers menu, are not explained so you have to look through the key binding menu to see you need to press F1 (which is a strange choice; I rebinded it to tab). To exit menus you need to press spacebar, because pressing escape won't work. The actual menu interfaces are nice and easy to navigate though. Some powers have no explanation on how to even use them, not even in the key bindings. For example the Shadow Kill power, which tells "Summon a monstrous beast from the shadows to erase a target from the physical realm and recover one use of your equipped Shadow Technique." That sounds cool, but how do I use it? I was not very impressed with having to scour through the forums to find out how to use an ability which wasn't explained in game. Overall though, Aragami is easy to pick up and get into so it has a mostly good user experience. Miscellaneous - There's customisation in the form of different skins to choose from. You can choose from 4 default skins, and also unlock 9 more. Valuation Longevity/replayability - The average time to beat the game is only 6 hours ( howlongtobeat.com [howlongtobeat.com] ) but I've only completed 8 out of the 13 chapters and already have 6 hours clocked. Each mission has 3 medals to unlock (and it's impossible to get all 3 in one go) so if you want to 100% the game you'll certainly need to replay all the levels. The game is not very long but its length is fairly decent. Modablity - This game comes with a level editor and workshop support, so once you've beaten the game there's still plenty to do. As of now there are 483 community made maps available to play. Support - The developers are working really hard on improving their game. This is from the latest patch: "We are still hard at work to support and improve Aragami. This patch contains more than 100 minor bug fixes." They are also going to add more content in the future. Is it worth the money? For $20, it really depends how much you like this type of game. I'd recommend to pick this up on sale of 30% off or more. Pros Beautiful style, the music and graphics are really nice Unique shadow game mechanic Great functionality Intriguing story Fun and replayable, and community made levels add more content Cons Fairly steep price Quite short Sometimes camera angles get a bit janky AI could be improved Conclusion Aragami is a really fun stealth game. If you enjoyed Dishonored you'd probably enjoy this too, with the similar blink mechanic and custom playstyle. I give this game a 8/10 If you liked this review or want to see more recommended games, be sure to follow our curator group: Follow Original Curator GroupShow moreShow less

Aragami is a game of contradictions, and perhaps appropriately so in that it follows a strong theme of light versus darkness. Initially, it feels very impressive. The art style is refreshing and consistent, and the soft Japanese music certainly adds to the feel of the game. When you start learning the moves and are set loose to assassinate guards, it feels very satisfying - that feeling of satisfaction of pulling off a well-planned kill does keep you playing until the end. On top of this, the shadow mechanics really feel meaningful - when you stick to the shadows, you are all-powerful. You can teleport from shadow to shadow, and kill effectively. When you stray into the light, you very quickly feel hamstrung by how conspicuous you are to your foes, and the non-regeneration of your energy. This contrast is by far the best part of this game. Style aside, the experience is hampered by several problems that, while individually wouldn't be too bad, in combination make the game feel a little rushed and disjointed, and in the later stages leaves you with a cynical outlook on it. Part of the joy is that you are a highly-skilled assassin. You carefully select your kills, and the order in which to complete them so that the alarm isn't raised. Often, this means hopping up to treetop level to take out pesky archers who make life on the ground very difficult. You would think a skilled assassin like this would be able to inconspiciously deal with these archers, but alas no. Once the archer is dead, his body is left to slump to the floor, governed by ragdoll physics. Being that archers tend to stand close to the edge of their platform, half of the time you assassinate them the body straddles over the edge of the platform, eventually falling off. Any guards underneath at any point henceforth will see the body and raise the alarm. Not such a slick killer after all - you find yourself shouting at the screen for him to just grab the guy before he falls! It is absolutely infuriating when you get 80% of the way through a level with perfect stealth, only for it to be thrown away by these clumsy but necessary incidents. However, it does get worse. On several levels, there are patches of grass and foliage. The first thing that you notice about these is that their "sway in the breeze" animation is set way too fast, so rather than swaying it vibrates like a guitar string. More importantly, in the game these patches of grass and foliage render as exactly the same colour as shadows. Given that it is so satisfying to pull off perfectly executed sequences of kills, you try your best to strike quickly and fluidly - especially in the later levels, where there are more enemies. However, on countless occasions, when darting between points, I found myself right-clicking on a bushy bit of grass or foliage, Aragami didn't teleport, and in that lost moment he is discovered by a guard and summarily blasted with a fatal light slash. Having to start levels over and over again makes you feel far less inclined to challenge yourself and complete the game with style, as it gets to feel like you are fighting against these annoying issues rather than against the guards. Lastly, the skill tree feels like a total afterthought. There are no points in the game that strictly require any of the skills, and for the most part they just make the game easier. For instance, one ability lets you "disappear" bodies, removing a key aspect of planning in levels. Another permanently marks all enemies in the vicinity so that you don't have to scout around. Another, even more powerful ability allows you to silently assassinate an enemy, disappear the body, and regain an ability point all in one go - this particular ability to refuel points and ultimately use these powers infinitely makes clearing a level extremely trivial. As a result, I ended up ignoring the skill tree apart from the "show objective location" ability, simply in order to give myself a bit of a challenge. All of these things combined, by the time the somewhat flimsy story is over, you are almost glad for it. In most levels, once you've been killed 5 times halfway through or further, thanks to the above glitches, you end up realising that detection by guards doesn't really matter, and you don't get punished for it. If you so wish, you can quite easily dart from shadow to shadow and get to the end of most levels without even touching anyone. If anything, it's even better when someone sees you, as the alert draws all nearby enemies to the place you were spotted - with all the guards occupied in one spot, you can just sprint through the empty level until the next time you're spotted, then start blinking through the shadows again. If you're an absolute stealth fiend, give it a go. But overall, as an experience, it does feel rather thin, rushed, and disconnected. There's no real incentive, other than personal drive, to play it as a smooth assassin rather than a headless chicken - and that personal drive is constantly worn away by niggling issues with the game.Show moreShow less

This is every Tenchu players dream - there's been a real drought of stealth games involving ninja's but this satisfies my hunger for sneaking about and there's a really nice art style to it too. I'm a big fan of the stealth genre and I've been watching this title for a while. I was really gutted when I heard this wasn't coming to Xbox One but I decided I'd give it a go on my PC (I hardly ever buy PC games so you can guess how much I wanted it). I'm happy to say that I'm not disappointed. It's also not particularly expensive and from the few levels I've played so far, it's thoroughly worth £14.99 - £13.49 if you buy it before 11th Oct. I've been making videos for my YouTube channel, so if you're interested in how it plays then my playlist might be worth a look: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1nCuO5R6HvEYIFZsgJK-ogvZ6T9_MLCw *Update 6/10* I do understand some of the negative comments in terms of comparison to Tenchu although I don't necessarily agree; it's not quite the same but it's certainly not miles apart. In my opinion Aragami hold's it's own as a unique title and has a more than competent stealth mechanic. There's definitely a more anime style to it than Tenchu and there are fewer gadgets but to me it shines in it's own way. The heavy emphasis on the use of shadows is really interesting - I've found myself using the ability to zap between shadows several times to get out of tricky situations. Tenchu has never been on PC to my knowledge, so this is likely the closest we'll get; I'm not sure if or when we'll actually see another Tenchu on console as the license seems to have gone AWOL after the last game on the Wii.Show moreShow less

I was so excited to see Aragami finally on sale on the Steam store today. A lot of players said it played like the Tenchu series. I have been a huge fan of the Tenchu series since playing the first game as an import on my friend's moded PS1 back in the late 90's. After playing Aragami for a little under an hour I can say that the screenshots make it look like Tenchu but the actual gameplay is more Tenchu lite. The game's overall storyline and classic Japanese levels are there (no real vertical levels that I saw), but that's about it. I wanted to use multiple tools, traps, and ways of luring my enemies into their demise, but all you get is the same two or three kill animations with a sword you can't use in actual combat, only canned death animations. I saw in later levels you do get access to some shadow powers (and read about them in the menu), but after watching videos of people using those powers, I feel like it's not worth trying to get that far and that those powers are not worth keeping the game. The game also makes my NVidia 1070 sad as frame rates dip down to the 40's. Check ACG's video review on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzFVKN9FCuE Finally, and I know it's probably just me, but I can't stand a stealth game that involves lots of interaction with the environment, where I can't jump. Why can't I jump? I'm supposed to be a bad ass ghost ninja who can do anything. I know I'm supposed to use the shadow teleport move, and that's the game's BIG GAMEPLAY MECHANIC, but it's not enough for me. I need options to move around the environment as I see fit. Why can't my Ninja jump over the two foot high cemetary wall? What is this, Resident Evil 2? Jumping aside, the game feels very rinse and repeat. Teleport into shadows, find a light dude, sneak behind him, and play the slow canned stealth kill animation. I can also press the X button for the game to jump for me and then execute the slow canned stealth kill animation. I don't get to jump, the game jumps for me and only when I am standing on a ledge. I wouldn't even call it a jump, it's really just a fall onto a bady guy with your sword ready for the kill. Choice of movement and playing the same level tons of different satifying ways is the whole appeal to any stealth/ninja game. Completing the level with either killing no one or killing everyone is not enough. I want to toy with my enemies, see the AI work together only to trip and fall as I decend upon them. I think back to all the great buffet of tools in the Tenchu series to do so many different status effects to my enemies and then I see Aragami's tool set. I really want to love this game. As Mr. Plinkett once said, it's the devil in the details, my lovely. UPDATED I love all these comments, even the insulting ones. The question every gamer must ask themselves is how long should a game take before it's judged by the gamer to be worth continued playing? For me and this game, I felt like I had reached that time and I made my choice. Every gamer gets to make their own choice in this matter and I'm just glad that Steam gives that 2 hour window to make that decision. I wanted to really like this game and I tend to only write my feelings about a game if I feel it was worth talking about, which I did. There's so much else I could write about: -whether or not AAA games and Indie games deserve the same time to judge their product -the difference between a game that gets better due to added features or just a game that feels better because the gamer has simply spent more time with it. -the needs and wants of different gamers, for example, I don't have a lot of time to secod guess whether a game will get better Maybe one day I'll get back to this game, but for now, I'm off to play other games.Show moreShow less

Aragami promises to be a stealth game, but it's only that in the loosest sense of the term. Much of the game revolves around killing enemies and the final level boils down to "kill, run, kill, run, etc." PROS: + Decent, cell-shaded graphics. + Co-op gameplay, which is always a nice feature. + A fair amount of stealth gameplay (although this changes as the game progresses). + Free DLC. + Steam Cloud. + Level Editor. NEUTRAL: +/- Dialogue is voiced entirely in a made-up Japanese-like language with subtitles. I've added this because some people really dislike foreign language with subtitles in games, so it's something to consider if it's a pet peeve of yours. CONS: - Graphics and audio are mediocre at best; not terrible, but definitely not state-of-the-art. - Co-op gameplay has unusually long synchronization issues at the start of every level. - Checkpoint saves instead of the far superior "save anywhere" game mechanic utilized by manual saves and quicksaves. - The game is terrible at providing information and instructions to the player, which results in a ton of trial-and-error gameplay. For instance, on the controls screen, the game fails to tell the player that the "B" button on the XBox controller brings up the power wheel or during the final battle at the end of the game, there's NO indication what you're supposed to do and how to do it. - The last level disregards stealth entirely and instead forces you to fight an enemy who is invulnerable to ALL of your abilities and can track you wherever you attempt to hide. Sneaking and hiding was, up until this level, a key component of the game and suddenly, everything is thrown off-track and becomes an action game. VERDICT: I wish Steam had a neutral rating, because while Aragami has MANY faults, it's not a terrible game. Maybe Aragami would play better as a single player game. My wife and I played it together in co-op and stealth games can be quite difficult in when you have to take into account another person. That said, because Aragami has been advertised as a stealth game, I'm going to judge it as one and as such, it fails.Show moreShow less

Overall this game costs too much money for too little content. Think Dishonored, but twice the price, minimal story, only 3 types of enemies, and overly-simple core mechanics that don't evolve as the game progresses. Cons: The enemies don't have any real means of countering your absurd shadow powers, meaning the only real "difficulty" comes from your character being a 1-hitpoint wonder who dies instantly from being hit by an attack or falling into water. Checkpoints are also oddly spaced, meaning you may have to replay a huge swath of a level over again just because you accidentally teleported yourself into a moat. Unlike other stealth games like MGS, Hitman, or Assassin's Creed that require you to pick up and carry bodies in order to hide them, Aragami has an unlockable skill early on that straight up erases corpses with his shadow magic, which pretty much makes the whole "guards discovering corpses and going on alert" mechanic totally pointless. - There is absolutely no way to interact with corpses aside from using this skill, so you can't even do fun stuff like tossing bodies out in the open to lure guards (which would have been awesome if you could mix it with your teleporting powers) While it is possible to earn "pacifist" medals by ghosting through levels, there's no way to incapacitate guards without killing them, and the storty forces you to kill the bosses you fight, meaning a true pacificst run is outright impossible. There are ALSO medals for killing every enemy within a level, you get awarded points for doing so, AND the number of people you kill has ZERO impact on the outcome of the story. - In other words, this game has the atmosphere of one that COULD be pure stealth with optional killing (despite the vengeance-themed story saying otherwise), but always ends up turning into a shadow-powered killfest, except the killfest isn't even that satisfying because the game lacks true combat mechanics and everything just dies in one hit :steamfacepalm: This game was fun at first, but after 3 hours the "novelty" had worn out, and I quickly realised that if I wanted to go on a teleporting power-fantasy killing spree I could be playing Shadow of Mordor instead. (which funnily enough, is also $19.99 on Steam) Pros: This game DOES have online co-op, a level editor, and mods. So if you REALLY happen to like the idea of playing a co-op stealth game with a friend and this game happens to be at least 75% off, then MAYBE it might be worth trying it out. HOWEVER I personally found the core game mechanics far too bland to bother with the online content.- even with the level editor you're still stuck with the same core assets and 3 enemy types (sword dude, archer dude, sword dude with a torch), and any enterntainment derived from Co-op mode would most likely be from watching your teammates screw up, since multiple Aragami's running around would be WAY too OP. DISCLAIMER: All game prices listed above are from the time that this review was written, and may be subject to change due to steam sales and price drops.Show moreShow less
