If Steam kept track of the hours I played on the Flash version it would be a pretty depressingly high number. 10/10 Would get depressed about wasting my life again.Show moreShow less
First off, this game rocks. It's better than the pay to win flash version. However $10 is a RIDICULOUS price to ask for a flash game thats already free. I got this on sale for a bit over 6$ and think thats still a bit much. I would highly recommend this if it wasn't so expensiveShow moreShow less
People say the idea is stupid but when a red bloon crashes into your bloody house in the middle of the night and snatches your family up, you're gonna wish you had a monkey on bath salts that's a world class dart shooting champion there to help you.Show moreShow less
it's fun but the cloud is completely borked, lost all my 40+ hours of progress. lot of other people have too (see forums)Show moreShow less
Bloons TD 5 Bloons TD 5 is Ninja Kiwi's latest installment in the Bloons TD series. It is a strategy tower defense game with a large number of towers and maps to have fun with. I will include a TL;DR at the end. Gameplay In Bloons TD 5 you start off with a simple dart monkey, but as you play and destroy more and more bloons you unlock up to 17 towers to use. For single-player there are 57 maps categorized into 5 levels of difficulty (beginner, intermediate, advanced, expert, and extreme) and there are 32 maps in co-op which are divided into 4 categories (beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert). As you choose a map there are 4 options of difficulty (easy, medium, hard, and impoppable). There are multiple ways to play such as apocalypse, deflation, and the ability to reverse the track. Each of the 17 towers has 2 upgrade paths which each feature 4 upgrades however when you choose the third upgrade for one path the other path locks down. Each tower has different behaviors and special uses. There are upgrades which boost different part of your gameplay and buildings available for purchase (in-game money) which boost certain towers. There are special agents you can buy to give you an edge and daily challenges along with special missions. There is odyssey mode where you defend multiple tracks to get a reward. Towers even have abilities you can unlock to help give you an edge (one way or another). Bloons TD 5 is slightly addictive and packed full of content on Steam. Graphics/sound The graphics are polished, smooth and well-done for a tower-defense game. An interesting thing in this game is how the character icon on the bottom left changes as you upgrade your towers. The music is simply joyful and relaxing. The only problems would be the fact the eventually you will only hear bloons popping. Luckily you can mute the sound and/or music if you want to. Flash vs Steam version There are quite a number of added things to Bloons TD 5 that are not included on the flash version. While the flash version is free it does not have a laboratory to upgrade your items and does not contain the Monkey Engineer and Bloonchipper. Steam has a whole new difficulty for players to face (impoppable) and does not have micro-transactions lurking in the corners. Everything on steam can easily be achieved by doing daily challenges and just playing the game. Odyssey mode does not even exist in the flash version. The only thing that flash has that steam does not is the ability to message another player in co-op. The lack of communication is a huge loss in teamwork and the ability to last for more rounds. Pros/Cons Pros + 17 towers to choose from + 57 maps in single-player and 32 maps in co-op + Music is relaxing + Specialty building for towers and laboratory + 4 levels of difficulty + Many different ways to play + Monkeys vs Balloons (funny concept) + Odyssey mode and daily challenges + Missions for cash + Daily Reward Cons - No communication in co-op (this is a huge issue) - Many people will randomly disconnect in co-op - In co-op people idle and remove any sort of co-operation (The main issues in this game are lying within co-op) Final thoughts I have always loved the Bloons series ever since I first discovered it on kongregate. This game is the highlight of the series and is amazing in almost every aspect. I love that there is no micro-transactions and there is a whole other level of difficulty. The only problem that shines to me is co-op with its lack of communication and how some people act (idling/ quitting out of the blue when you are about to win). TL;DR If you are a fan of the flash version this will be worth your time with 2 new exclusive towers, the new laboratory, impoppable mode, no micro-transactions, and odyssey mode. I recommend first checking out the game on NinjaKiwi to get a sense of the general gameplay and decide if you want to buy this along with all its new and fun features or not. I love Bloons Tower Defense, I really do. But the Steam Version isn't fun. The Browser edition, while not as smooth, and lacking some features, works just fine, and if you have a smart phone, you might as well save $7 and get the $3 app that has all the updates. I consider this a luxury item and isn't worth it unless you'll play a lot.Show moreShow less

I'll start with the positive stuff: The game is easy and fun to learn. It's great for kids and anyone wishing to kill some time while in school or at work. The artstyle is pretty, and watching the bloons get popped is really satisfying and addictive. Most Tower Defense games doesn't achieve this, and I guess that's why Bloons TD is so popular. The bad stuff: The towers and their upgrades are quite cool, but 80% of them are bad. The "best" strategy is spamming the same towers over and over again regardless of the map, and this is something you'll realize after just a few hours of playtime. And even worse, there is one tower that amplifies the power of all nearby towers, so placing all your firepower in one tiny area is always your best option, even though a tower would have better map synergy if placed elsewhere. This makes the game extremely repetitive, and sadly, most of this game is about grinding. To unlock the hardest difficulty, you must win 17 of the 19 easiest maps on ALL other difficulties. Yes, you must also complete these beginner tracks on "easy" and "normal" even though you have already beaten them on "hard". This is the level of grinding you can expect if you decide to purchase this game. And finally, you can get passive upgrades that just makes the game way too easy. You can easily boost the firepower of your towers by 20-40% by using tokens that you unlock by - yes, you guessed it - grinding for several hours. You can even unlock "cheats" such as double cash which breaks the game, and even while using said cheats you can complete tracks and earn medals as though you didn't use them. So the medal you get for winning a difficult map is pretty much irrelevant, because they can be earnen very easy by activaring various game-breaking bonuses. Comparing your progress with your friends' is therefore irrelevant. Overall, the game is a satisfying-to-play time-killer. But the gameplay is repetitive and grindly, and would be much better as a Free-to-Play. I don't belive it's worth $10.Show moreShow less

I hate to have to give this game a negative review, but the updates have been non-existant, and the ones that DO come, bring really weak content. It's been 3 years since we've seen a new tower. The new "maps" are far and few between. The events are a total joke. Do all the totem events and you get 5 monkey buccaneers!!! Super grand prize!!! And now, to put the nail in the no for recommendations, they've decided to prep us for Bloons Tower Defense 6 by adding in In App Purchases. "For what??" you might ask. So we can turn the skins of the towers into something else...with no benefit! Have you ever wanted a dart monkey with a piece of medieval armor on its head? Well for the low price of 2 bucks, you can! The best part is there's nothing special about it to make it game breaking!!! Meaning it's not pay-to-win...it's pay-to-throw-your-money-away. Like I said, BTD6 WILL have IAPs. This guarantees it. And this precursor patch to it both confirms it and is pretty insulting to the followers of the bloons series. I really hope people start changing their votes to "would not recommend" so Ninja Kiwi will learn this is a terrible tactic, especially to pull on people who bought a deluxe version of something that's actually a "If you pay more, you can have ALL the content in your deluxe version" type of game. I'm sincerely disappointed in Ninja Kiwi for this one. It kills me to give a negative review to a series that I thoroughly enjoyed, but if they want to travel down the IAP path and lose some serious fans, that's their decision to make. If they choose to remove IAPs and apologize for adding them, I'll gladly change this to a thumbs up. But as for now, you guys are buying a DELUXE game that you have to pay even more money to get everything in. IAP Deluxe is an oxymoron.Show moreShow less
