This game used to be good: fast-paced, pleasantly complex, strategy-based, and lots of adorable monkeys. There were some problems: clan bugs, COBRA tower, cheating, and unwillingness of support staff to do anything about the cheating, but overall it was pretty playable. To play at the highest level, or just have maximum fun, a couple minor purchases were helpful but not required, primarily club access for additional arena modes with special rules. Instead of fixing those problems, Ninja Kiwi introduced "powers" as a way to squeeze money out of existing players. Basically the game went from being focused on strategy and skill to being focused on grinding to unlock the best powers and use those powers to defeat opponents. Of course, Ninja Kiwi made sure that those powers could be unlocked immensely faster (10-15x?) by paying for xp boosts. This introduced several literal pay-to-win weeks, where unskilled wannabe's could pay to get powers almost immediately, then use them to crush their opponents. Needless to say, this was extremely unpleasant for everyone else, which was probably the idea: make it suck so much to not have powers that everyone pays to get powers. Instead, half of the regular grinders stopped playing. They were the smart ones. Most other players suffered through extensive grinding to get powers. Unfortunately the game isn't any more enjoyable once you have the powers. Instead of feeling like people are cheating against you with superior powers, you get to feel like you're the one cheating against players with weaker powers. Or you both have the same powers, which are heavily tilted in favor of defense, and end up playing extremely long and boring games because it's now too easy to greed and build up insurmountable defenses. Ninja Kiwi has absolutely no clue regarding the balance of this game, or what made it enjoyable to play. The players spending the most time on the game and requiring the basic upgrades were grinders, but now grinding is slow and unpleasant. Intermittent players are doomed to spend months unlocking players, in the meantime getting crushed by grinders with better powers. Newbies are likely to encounter players with powers immediately after starting the game, and they have literally no chance of winning against them. Ninja Kiwi has managed to ruin the game for most grinders, and absolutely everyone else. The only people who are likely to enjoy the game at this point are pay-to-win grinders who lack the skill to win without powers, and don't enjoy real competition - basically the same crowd who used to cheat to win. Stay away from this game, Ninja Kiwi can't handle multi-player games at all, and will greed the pay-to-win until they kill it entirely.Show moreShow less

As many popular titles, this is the product of commercialism. Apart from the expected decent gameplay the Bloons series offers, there's nothing good about this. Energy system, massive grinds, everything is instantly unlockable by paying and it's rubbed into your face every step of the way. The constant bickering to pay to unluck full tiers and whatnot quickly becomes annoying, and due to the nature of the game you can expect many one sided matches. As it's not all about skill as some others have stated. It's also very much about what you've unlocked, and as said, you can unlock everything by just paying, giving you an automatic advantage compared to same level players who did not pay. Essentially the game isn't pay to win, but where is the line drawn? Personally I find games like this makes the difference between P2W and not P2W more and more vague, and I don't see that as a good thing. Would have been able to recommend this if it wasn't so commercialized to the max, as the "Bloons Wars" idea always appealed to me. Keep in mind, just to unlock all content in-game you'll be paying more than any dev has ever charged you for an AAA title. I think such practises are becoming way too common, but the fault lies at the customer, who has become more and more accepting of such practises. Stop co-operating with these disgusting business practises. No, a single card, character or unlock should not be worth $5, but you sheep just keep dishing it out anyway. Shame on you.Show moreShow less

What once was a balance game that didn't had any unfair microtransactions with only the ones that existed for a while included the club pass which allowed for different way to plays by spicing up the gameplay. They added other microtransaction later on with tower skins which only impacted gameplay on what an tower upgrades looked like but didn't give a player. I know that there's is a kinda annoying unlocking system at the start but the game will try to put you with players in a similar position as your own which make it (weirdly enough), the best time to try to get the winstreak oriented trophies. But then 6.0 dropped. Granted, we had bad meta's in the past, both on the flash and steam/mobile version. Flash had Ring of fire and basically whatever was needed to be able to defend as much rounds as possible without needing to think about the opponent. Steam/Mobile had dart farm chipper since chipper stall affect zomg's, Ninja wiz mortar due to the bad reputation. Heck, we could argue the ice dartling village was a worse meta that everything we ever witness. But all thoses metas where temporary. 6.0 wasn't. Uptade 6.0 was when they added powers. A grindy/pay to win system that was added in an already mixed system to begin with. People argued the old system had issues like negating some aspects of micro by the simple touch of a button or that a rush could become a threat by just saying so. at least the old system was fair since both players at the same tools. But not in 6.0. The new system which got envelopped by the problem with the current mobile market is just insulting. Example: base track power, drop a pile of 20 spikes that can pop 1 bloon each which can be used a tool of 3 times per match. It's fair until you realise your opponent could have a pile of 30 spikes, or a shield that can block 150hp worth of bloons, glue that at one point, could solo like the first 5 rounds if uncontested. Not enough unfair for you, what about upgrading your tower boost to make the enemies irrelevant. Being confident you can protect yourself until round 13 or round 18? then use a bloon or moab boost which make the original boost look like a snail in concrete. And they didn't stop there, oh no. what about adding a new set of powers themed about making the life of your opponent worse directly. Said pack include a stun that disable your tower for 8 seconds which destroy early game. of course you can sell the tower but that refund will hurt you in the long run. Stunning one tower isn't enough? what about ALL towers for 2 seconds (was original 3). In that amount of times, all regrow bloons had probably had time to regrow at least once, all bloons faster than a red had time to cover a minimun of 10% on any map that is not epiclategame. Don't like stunning towers, what adding restrictions to selling, restrictions on buying, restrictions on using abilities, restrictions on using powers which just feel like a NO U card. And there also the Economy powers which is basically the game asking what way to you want earn resources faster. But don't worry, the community pushed and pushed trying to get NK to get a mode like the good old days. and they succeded, oh wait, no powers at all. And places to pick said options are real slim. So the community pushed again. NK obliged. NK actually gave what people wanted. Minus the fact that the options to play said mode was even more slim than the first result we got. At least some people got what they wanted which was already available in the past, only to be taken away from us. Only driven away 2 of the best youtuber/twitch streamers of the community who didn't see this franchise as a click bait machine with all the shiny graphics and powerful attacks made for thumbnails. at least one of them stick with btd6, the other one got bored of the series. Tournament system sucks at 2 things. 1, having the option to play with the old power sets we have grown attached to. 2, if the code was spagetthi, you could feed a lot more people that you think. To finish off, clan war system seem functionnal but the ui is worse than trying to make sense of that one time I was drugged with morphine at a hospital. To conclude, this game is dead since it got murdered and I'm sad for it to be gone. A shame for not posting this sooner. This took 30 minutes of my life to write but these 30 minutes where more worth it than booting up the game once final time.Show moreShow less
I'm suprised that BTD Battles actually made it to Steam, and It works very well. Although, it dosen't seem anymore different to the Mobile edition with some exceptions, such as a monkey hand for a cursor, using 1,2,3, etc. for hotkeys, upgrading ( , and . ) and some other features. I remember when BTD Battles came out for FLASH, and everyone USED to play it on the Ninja Kiwi website. Till it came out for mobile, than nobody played the Flash version. I REALLY like you can play this with the players on Steam and on an iPad/Android, so you'll not have to wait about 20 seconds to fight someone (unless you have really bad connection, if so, you shouldn't play this game). And connecting to the Steam Cloud and the Ninja Kiwi Cloud, I found that really useful if you had a record before. But of course, there are some problems. I'm a bit dissapointed that if you want to have the best of BTD Battles, You'll need to pay for it, and the Club Rooms is a perfect example. I don't really wanna pay 5 USD (I'm Australian, so I'd have to pay more) just for new maps and different gamemodes. And also slowly having to play for hours on end to unlock the best towers, it's gets quite frustrating that you want to unlock a 4th tier Bloonchipper, but if you're into the grinding genre of games, I guess it's alright... Also, I would want to be able to customise hotkeys, but if that is not going to happen, it's ok, I guess. BUT there is no hotkeys to send out Bloons, and I'm REALLY used to do that. It's really weird. Overall, I'm glad this went onto Steam, and I'll be playing it on Steam, the game itself is great, challenging and competitive. (I mostly wrote about the Steam and Mobile version and differences, sorry.) But I shouldn't be able to pay 6.40 AUD to have access to the more interesting features of the game. Also, Hotkeys. Give me dem hotkeys man. EDIT: Oh god I went over this after 1 day, and this review is so so bad,Show moreShow less
I really can't understand why this game is so popular... Bloons TD battles has 82% positive reviews (3k+). I decided this is the guarantee that game is good. So I installed it. First of all, this is mobile port. Big buttons, mobile UI, etc..I don't like mobiles port, but this subjective opinion doesn't make game bad. Secondly, this graphics makes me feel like I am back in 2004 when this art style was popular in flash games. It's 2017 now. I really can't say this graphics is cool now. Music is repetitive and annoying. Thirdly, micro transactions are really expensive. I prefer paid games. I don't like to purchase the same things again and again. Anyway, this is a subjective opinion too. I know people who test free games for a start and begin to buy things later. The main reason I gave this game a negative recommendation because gameplay is absolutely terrible. I will describe you my first 3 battles in this game. You start a game, place some towers and send green baloons. Next wave starts, you send red baloons and place some towers. Next wave starts you send blue baloons and place some towers... Repeat these actions until your enemies leaks 50 (random colour) baloons or you became totally bored to continue play this game too. Yeah, pvp mechanic in TD games is pretty innovative. But I don't understand how people like play each battle the same way. There is no information how much health each baloon has. There are no types of armor/damage. There are no tower characteristics. So there is totally no tactics in the game. Just send "new colour" baloons. It's not a tower defense game because TD game is a strategy game. Bloons TD Battles isn't a strategy game. It's just a casual game for people who like do thoughtless and repetitive actions. I would recommend to play Kingdom Rush third time instead of playing this horrible game.Show moreShow less

killed the game when they released the powers, turned from a game that actually required skill and game knowledge to pay2win (or grind 10 years) for overpowered abilities so the game now is just cheese rushes.Show moreShow less
