Boringly easy. Graphics are good enough, but the puzzles can't compare to classics like The Room.Show moreShow less
Push buttons, pull levers, stuff doing stuff, sounds go trr-trr, chk-chk and frrrrrrrrrrr, men happy.Show moreShow less
If you liked the Room games, you will be disappointed. There is no real challenge. You just go through the obvious motions box after box.Show moreShow less
This is an improvement on Doors:Paradox although actual game play is similar. The game has better special effects and has opened up the puzzle arena so that it doesn't feel so claustrophobic. There's even a half decent story behind it all which was one of my criticisms in the first game. Review Here Boxes: Lost Fragments was a decent puzzle experience, following the same guidelines as Doors:Paradox with its diorama style puzzles where you pull, twist, and manipulate objects to reveal hidden secrets, and solve puzzles within, but upgraded substantially with better visuals and special effects and an overall more rounded adventure. Story Although not as long as its predecessor it felt better quality and I enjoyed the story which drove the game play forward. Again, the story was told in brief notes found around the game arena but they made more sense this time and there was even a surprise ending which tied it all together. Yes, it was still basic, and certainly could be improved upon with a bit of voice acting, cut scenes, and the like, but it was definitely an improvement and a welcome distraction from all the puzzling. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3151447762 Puzzles There are some easy puzzles and some very difficult puzzles, and then there are simple things that will stump you until you get the hand of how things work. Manipulating objects, like pulling and twisting things, will either reveal objects you can collect to use later, or will reveal a puzzle which you may be able to start, or you may need another object to unlock the puzzle. Inventory items can also be examined and in some cases manipulated to reveal hidden items within. This is where I got stuck the most to be honest, as I kept forgetting that items collected could be hiding secrets! Some games like this actually indicate on the object that it needs to be examined, with a symbol or plus sign, but there is a very effective hint system which accurately displayed where you needed to go next in the puzzle arena, or told you that an item needed further investigation by flashing. This comes in handy when you just don't know where to go next and I used this option quite a lot because there are some obscure areas to find like hidden switches on corners, or in out of way places. It kept the game moving, and let me concentrate on the puzzles. Game Play Video https://youtu.be/pZ865oRSKUI Once puzzles were revealed, there is an option to skip the puzzles if they are proving too difficult, so there shouldn't be any reason why you can't finish the game. The only thing I would say is that I would like to have achievements for every puzzle, just as a reward for spending the time to complete them, as most achievements are based on reaching certain areas rather than completing difficult puzzles. Conclusion Overall, I enjoyed Boxes: Lost Fragments. There is certainly enough here for all skill levels, with a mixture of different types of puzzles varying in difficulty, but there is no danger of getting stuck as puzzles can be skipped without penalty. It is easy to dip in and out of the game with instant saving features and I enjoyed the story behind the game. I would certainly recommend this to puzzle lovers and think it is a step up from Doors:Paradox. Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.Show moreShow less
I'm a huge fan of puzzle games, especially those that provide a great challenge (shoutout to The Witness). However, this game is one of the easiest out there. It took me less than three hours and I barely broke a sweat. Only four puzzles took more than a minute to solve, and the rest were just easy. For $15, consider buying The Room Trilogy instead, as this game seems heavily influenced by it (maybe too much, as some puzzles felt quite familiar)Show moreShow less
I really enjoyed this game. It has great graphics and plenty of puzzles, but it is definitely much easier compared to The Room games. I am not the brightest of sparks and I didn't have any problems with this game. There was one puzzle with the knight and the pawn which was very hard (had to look up the answer), but everything else is very logical. You need to be observant and push and prod anything and everything. janner66 gives a more in depth review. Over to you Steve! As for accessibility, you only need the mouse to point and click. There are no sound puzzles nor are there any colour puzzles. Some things are a little tiny to see, but there is a very helpful hint system which points you into the right direction. There is a good story to the game and the 'what ifs' about the consequences of the ending. Hopefully, there might be another game coming up! The graphics are good and clear...not dark like The Room....so no nasties hiding in the dark. Some of the special effects were great! So to those who have never played these sort of games before...play this before The Room series and the House of Da Vinci series. Great for the old grey cells. 8/10. The game is currently 15% off for the next 9 hours.Show moreShow less
It's alright for a first puzzle like game. If you played 'The Room' series this will be a cake walk and get quite boring due to easiness of all the puzzles. Half of them are even copy pasted, not sure how this doesn't count as theft. If you played other puzzle games skip this one or don't spend more than 1 euro.Show moreShow less
A fantastic and enjoyable puzzle game heavily inspired by The Room Series in which you complete a series of escape-room-esque puzzle boxes to gather mechanical parts needed to progress in the main chamber. You will need to press buttons or slide levers to open hidden panels, solve smaller puzzles by matching symbols or colors, find codes to input on locks, arrange items in their correct positions, and much more. It took me 4.5 hours to complete the game. Puzzles are not too mind-numbing and are usually easy to understand what needed to be done with the exception of the octopus puzzle ( You will need to block the octopus from reaching the red safe zone on the border ). There’s a hint system if you get stuck and if at any point that you feel like there is no solution, you probably have missed something that is in plain sight on the puzzle box like a switch or lever. Like many others, I found this game because I was looking for more like The Room series; I was disappointed. The primary problem is that the puzzles are too simple. You will be doing one of these three things most of the time: Find the key object and put it in the matching hole. (There are no tools or reused items.) Find the hidden slide latch to open a door. Various tile-shuffling puzzles. Basically all of my time playing this game was clicking through the obvious next step to take and waiting for the animations to play out; there was no real challenge, nothing to make me have to actually think about how to solve the box as opposed to merely the next step in getting some tiles in the right order. I was not impressed with the art, either. Yes, it's reasonably polished, but it doesn't cohere; every box has a theme (electrical, nautical, train, Greek, Aztec, Egyptian…) but they mostly don't relate to the kinds of things you have to do, to each other, or to the story, and overall I found everything too Generic Video Game Fantastical/Magical. One thing I did like is that you don't have to double-click everything like The Room; a single click is all you need to zoom in. This makes searching for things to do much less frustrating.Show moreShow less
