I wouldn't recommend it where it is right now. Three heroes and one is already behind a paywall? Seriously? The moment I paid for the game should be when it unlocked. The animations are awkward, the vo is repetitive for something meant to be played over and over, the waves start too quick, and the resource management is atrocious. A very flat game that needs some injections in it to make it interesting to keep playing. And for Crom's sake, enough with the DLC heroes and skins in a game you pay for.Show moreShow less
Why do walls take twice the gold to repair as they do to tear down and rebuild them? Edit: this has been fixed. Always remember what I can only assume was a wall repair money laundering scheme.Show moreShow less
As a big fan of the Conan Universe and a huge fan of Command&Conquer. I couldn't be more excited about this game. However, I was filled with disapointments when I understood that this game was a very close clone to They Are Billions. Instead of managing workers, you had it dumbed down with no workers at all and just buildings either sucking up or producing resources. And in all fairness, I think it was a big mistake of the developers to play the card of "former C&C developers" card. Because this game is nothing like Command&Conquer in terms of gameplay. This game feels very lazy, the music is the same from Conan Exiles, majority of the models are also from conan exiles. Only 5 "campaign" maps. I wouldn't even say campaign as there are no story to it. This game is NOT worth the price as of right now and its even disgusting to see them putting 1 hero behind a paid wall of 10 euro when the came already is not worth the full price. What I expected from this game was managing workers (thralls), give them difference tasks of resource collection, a decent campaign with story, a map with regions you conquer one by one untill you reach the end (Red Alert 1 map progression) Wait untill more content comes that can justify the price, wait for 50%+ off sales or stay away.Show moreShow less
Conan Unconquered Conan Unconquered is a base building/base defending strategy game with exploration elements. My impressions about this game were like a rollercoaster in first 3-5 hours of gameplay, but later on I mostly enjoyed it. So, speaking about the good features: + It's a decent game for co-op gameplay. + There's a cool comix in the game. We all like nice small additions like this one. + I really liked music/soundtrack/voiceovers. + Interface is good and very comfortable, at least I got used to it very fast while I don't play strategy games too often. + The game is quite well balanced. It's also challenging in a good way. I didn't like that it's almost impossible to recover if you lost some specific buildings on your base in lategame, but I can accept it as a game feature - ok, but losing in Conan Unconquered is a very disappointing thing as replaying the whole map from beginning is not too fun. + "Unconquered" game mode is better than "campaign" maps and available from very beginning with few restrictions. It kinda saved the day for me at some point. + The whole idea/concept was just brilliant. However, even the greatest ideas require decent realization and there's plenty of failures in this title: +- Exploration seemed to be the coolest aspect and it's the biggest disappointment for me in Conan Unconquered. It just doesn't work as a "cool thing". Exploration is monotonous and sometimes perceived as a burden, diversity of rewards/enemies is poor. And the funniest part of it -- the best way to explore map is to just run and loot. Yes, you don't have to kill enemies, don't waste your time on those annoying spiders, just take chest and run to the next one! Conan "Bolt" is on the run. You get some rewards for clearing monsters nests too and it could give you a great boost in early game to be honest so maybe there's a reason to clear those. Maybe. +- First mission sucks! It's not a pure "minus" only because that's my own experiece due to a bug which was most likely fixed by now. However, first mission is boring anyway even if you'll consider it as a half tutorial one. +- Graphics is not the most important part of the strategy game by far and it's not horrible in Conan Unconquered, but visuals seems to be too outdated sometimes when you actually play the game. +- Optimization. Gameplay experience was smooth for me, just one freeze due to engine glitch in 10+ hours, but my friend with weaker PC barely managed to launch Conan Unconquered. I don't understand why this game requires high end PC while it looks like it looks. All gameplay mechanics shouldn't be so resourse demanding and graphics is not impressive at all. - Amount of content and the way you experience the existing one. Do you see those cool screenshots with lots of different enemies, lots of different units etc.? Well, you won't see this for quite a long time. And when you'll reach this point it will be last 5th map out of 5 total. Yep. Do you remember first "half tutorial" mission I mentioned earlier? Second and third are not too different from that one in terms of interest. The whole situation is like "you have some cool toys, but you can't play them". After 12 hours in the game I'm not even close to those shiny screenshots on the storepage in terms of gameplay after completing 3 out of 5 maps. I have mixed feelings about Conan Unconquered. As I said in the beginning of my review - I mostly enjoyed playing this game. At the same time it's for sure a wasted opportunity and not a GOTY contender by far. 7.5/10 p.s. Fun fact - female character is way better than Conan in my opinion. More reviews on our Curator PageShow moreShow less
It's basically They Are Billions with a Conan skin. You try to manage resource gathering while expanding your military to fend off ever more difficult waves of enemies. Whether this game appeals to you is probably largely going to depend on whether you like Conan or not. Combat is very nice and visceral, but feels slow-paced. There are some nice features, like insect enemies being able to bypass walls by going over mountains instead. To be honest, I can't really recommend this over They Are Billions for the following reasons: - Optimization is all over the place. One moment I'm getting 60FPS, the next I'm getting 16FPS. This happens even when I don't move the camera. - Pace feels a lot slower. In They Are Billions your units tend to be fast and you can easily explore the map between rounds. In this one your units move painfully slow and it's a mission to just get them from one side of the base to the other side where the enemies are. As a result I spend more time hunkered in my base in fear that I won't get back in time when the next wave hits. - The zoom level is bad. It feels like I can't zoom out enough to actually see the screen. - It's buggy. Very buggy. Expect weird things like units not attacking back or enemies suddenly teleporting for no reason. - You don't actually see any workers walking around in the game, so your town feels completely dead. Just a bunch of soldiers waiting around for the next wave of enemies to come. That's not to say that it's a bad game, just not better than the other option on the market at the moment. Unless you're very interested in the Conan setting, I recommend rather just getting They Are Billions instead. This game feels like a rough early access game in comparison, which is ironic considering TAB is the EA game and this is the full release.Show moreShow less
love this game it's a good challenge i only wish they had more heroes you only get 2 heroes which is lame. and you get a 3rd hero if you buy the 20$ DLC but i dont think 1 hero is worth 20$, the 3rd hero should just be in the game no clue why a game comes out. with DLC already added with the game. very greedy the dev's are, shame on them Shame on them, this game should have 5-6 heroes. for free not 2 thats the only thing i hate about this game is the lack of heroes and how greedy people are with DLC's DLC is killing gaming for everyone, makes me sickShow moreShow less
I am a large RE Howard fan and a large Conan the barbarian fan, I am also a supporter of Funcom, I have an account for Age of Conan and I am one of the original private server owners for Conan Exiles. This game had a lot of hype and looks neat but it crashes worse than a Stygian boat in the waters of the far north. Until the bugs are corrected and they add more depth(more heroes, more camera modes, make citizens build structures instead of them building themselves I mean what is this a cell phone game? Because that's what it looks like!!! Funcom and your partner, hear my prayers, and if you do not listen then the hell with this game. I'm back to Exiles and Ages until they do. For almost 40 bucks by Crom and Ymir's beard I expected more "You spoke like there was more, you dogs!" roared Conan, wrenching his broadsword from his sparking PC monitor. "Mitra grant at least some of you are competent and fix these damn bugs that plague this game." He stalked out, slamming the office door as he left.Show moreShow less
So I actually really like this game. I am noticing a lot of negative comments from people who have not taken the time to really learn the game and just want to jump in and just throw stuff at enemies and win. This game works well if you understand the mechanics and learn a strategy that works for you. There are also further upgrades to buildings, units and heroes through the feats. You unlock the feats by just playing the game. Good example is how pikeman can reach air units when veterans, but to unlock it you have to get 50 pikeman to veteran before that. Or Walls have more HP (10% per stage) if you build 200 walls, another 10% if you build 500 walls. This progress accumulates over all play throughs. I have played they are billions a lot, and get really frustrated with that game, but this game, I absolutely love more with units that have unique attacks that are rock, paper, scissors to what you are fighting. I have completed wave 25 a few times now and just love it. I hope we see some patches for some balancing on the magic units. I hardly get to use them as much since starmetal is harder to get. I also really would love more maps. Maps where resources are insanely high in density for newer players, and other various biomes within the conan universe. Please, if you are going to play this game. really learn the mechanics and understand this is not an RTS, but a survival strategy game with waves that come at you quickly. You need to think several waves ahead.Show moreShow less
Do I recommend it right now? No, and it kind of sucks to say that as buried underneath the myriad of issues I believe is the grounds for an amazing game. The positives right now are when something goes right, the sense of satisfaction is immense; the combat is visceral & gory as heck and the enemies are just strong enough to challenge you; if you manage to survive a wave relatively intact, it feels incredibly *good*. I have a lot of love for the Hero units too, even if they're just tanks at this point. On the flip is the balancing, content, optimisation and bugs; the balancing is just... awful. I get that the devs have probably studied 'They Are Billions' closely, but whereas TAB can be punishing, it doesn't feel like a punishment to play, which is what I have with 'Conan' right now. The waves are so close that there's just no point in having breaks, resources generate at a rate so slow, I think the devs may have actually coded how to journey back in time instead, and then you're met with a resource maintenance fee, so when you finally do get a decent cash flow, you're hesitant to build anything as you'll lose 10-30% of your resource and revenue flow. Moving on to content; it's pretty thin - you get a choice of up to 3 Heroes (one's a $10 DLC unlock), zero story and what I think are 5 tutorial/SP missions? Without story for context, it's hard to tell really. The lack of story's a little saddening as they have access to the Conan universe plus it was developed by former C&C devs, who used to write the most amazing, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-insane stories for those campaigns, which enthralled me as a kid when I used to play their games. The Heroes, and in fact all your units, move as if they're caught in tar, which is annoying, but just loops back to the weird pacing mentioned above. It feels like SP was an afterthought here and that the entire game was balanced around coop - I looked at the coop list and there was 8 hosts at the time, so probably like me, everyone wants to enjoy SP instead, meaning the game needs better balancing for solo players. Optimisation and bugs kind of go hand-in-hand; you can't change the refresh rate in the resolution box, despite the option being there and I noticed some weird lag when I was in build mode whilst moving across the map (see my profile for specs - they're all above the recommended requirements) and I noticed framerate oscillation throughout the game. I don't believe this is due to graphics demand, as they look like Age of Empires III with a HD pack overlay if I'm being perfectly honest so something's amiss there. This is a game which could have benefited immensely from Early Access to iron out all the kinks in conjunction with the player community. As it is, I have paid for a game with old-school principles which just don't cut it in modern times, where it's either missing content, or the content is mixed up in a confusing and not very satisfying broth. The foundations are solid, it could be a really incredible game and a great gaming experience, but it just isn't right now and I've not had a great deal of fun playing it so far.Show moreShow less
