I would absolutely love to recommend this game because it really is good at its core. Sadly, the abundance of extremely high pitched sound effects make the game completely unplayable for me and I want to add this review as a word of caution for those with sensitive ears. The sound effects (dialogue, menu, etc.) hurt my ears and give me an immediate headache. Not even turning the sound effects down to the lowest possible level helps. All I can do is turn them off, at which point the game feels weird to play in dead silence. The pitch is just so high that it still manages to feel like a needle going through my ear no matter the volume. Please, I'm begging the devs here. I want to enjoy this game, and from what I've played so far it really does seem like a phenomenal creature collector. Please add an accessibility option to have more normal-pitched sound effects for those of us with sensitive ears. Thank you.Show moreShow less
It's like Pokemon, but if Gamefreak didn't hate their own fanbase.Show moreShow less
When I planned to write this review it was going to be a cautious thumbs up, but unfortunately I just... can't. The main flaw to the game is that they stay squarely under their obvious influence's thumb, but tried to cater to "hardcore" fans of it: The obsessive shiny hunters, the online super-competitive folk, and those who wanted more challenge (Nuzlocke, etc.) And in so doing, they never figured out a target audience to aim for and failed to capture one. Storyline: It's... there. It's a thing. It points distantly to some deep concepts, but never explores any of them. The whole story line is like a summer puddle, it looks enticing from afar but by the time you get to it, it's dried up because it was so shallow. The ending in particular feels exceptionally unearned and incomplete. Graphics: The GBA-style art looks mostly great. The Coromon sprites are MOSTLY great. There's a few weird bits. My biggest gripe is that the battle screen has zero concept of perception, which makes the back of your own 'mon feel tiny in front of the enemy. Sound: The game was at its best when it wasn't trying to go "Lets get something super close to Pokemon." Lots of sounds and jingles are such close copies you almost have to admire the dev's boldness. But the few times they went with something completely different they got something great, the theme used in a single building in a single town in particular is a major earworm. Gameplay: Ugh. Here's the biggest breakdown for me. The game is a slog to play, and not a rewarding one. Extreme grinding in one area to get to par, then everything is the same level range as you progress until you reach the next where you rinse and repeat. The major spikes already make for an obnoxious level grind, but the rest of the game design makes it even worse. Every area overstays its welcome with a massive, sprawling layout that takes a great amount of time (and, often, an aggressively high encounter rate). There's treasures to find tucked around, but they're often unrewarding. Combat is tedium, with one-hit wins being unlikely even with a team 10+ levels ahead of your opponents. Most of the RNG and movesets are built around slowing every single combat encounter even further. Status ailments feel overpowered... but are poor choices to use against NPCs/wild encounters, they're meant to slow the player down even further. Similarly, puzzles frequently appear and are at first novel and interesting (though many are cribbed directly from Pokemon), except the developer tends to throw longer variations of the same puzzle at you over and over until you're sick to death of them. The stealth sections were particularly grueling and far, far, far too long. All in all, this is a game that not just has no respect for a player's time, but is outright hostile to it. It will waste your time constantly in so many ways, not with fun but with things like running in literal circles while you wait for the 9th Trait change to see if you finally get the trait you want or a seven-round battle of 3-on-1 against wild enemies you've fought a dozen times already. "Does this mechanic add fun for our players?" was a question the developers clearly never asked themselves. The game was a slog, and one that never felt very rewarding. And because of that, despite all that they do right, I can't give it a thumbs up.Show moreShow less

A simplified Pokemon game with beautiful pixel art that is drowned out by slow animations, lackluster improvements to the formula/QoL, and time-burning "puzzles". Does anyone really enjoy the treadmill rooms in Pokemon? If so, maybe you'll get a kick out of several of them in a row, interlaced with backtracking switchstates and trainers who exist only to waste your time by spamming paralysis. From all of the positive reviews (with most of the negatives just complaining about crashes), I'd expected this to improve heavily on the Pokemon formula, far beyond just adding in some options (nuzlocke, ironman, etc.). However, the gameplay is feasibly even more brainless than in Pokemon (other than the nice SP system) due to limited movesets/types and traversing the world is a tiring chore. If there were an option to make the entire game run at 2-3x speed (as with emulating Pokemon), this would probably feel significantly less bad to play. However, currently the options only allow the ability to slightly speed up text.Show moreShow less
TL;DR: Game's good, but be ready that you might need to download a software to speed up the game process, as it is awkwardly designed and too slow, without options to speed up the animations and such. It took me 30 hours (according to steam) to complete this game. In short, it is a creature collector JRPG with 1v1 (mostly, there are rare, but sometimes occurring 1v2 and 1v3, also I'm not taking into account PvP) turn-based battles. Coromon is, obviously, inspired by Pokemon, but if I had to say, it is inspired most of all by more older versions of Pokemon, like Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. There are more than 100 (114 according to Corodex, however, due to specifics of some Coromon that I'll refrain from spoiling, I'd just say that there are over 100 of them) Coromon. Some have 3 stages of evolution, some just 2, nothing genre-breaking or game-redefining. There's no breeding, or different branches of evolution, so Coromon're all about just catching. There are 3 variations of each. Standard, Potent and Perfect. If you'd thought of Shinies, you are correct, as well as not. Standard Coromon appear 97.09% of the time (3101 to 3194), Potent 2.88% (92 to 3194) and Perfect 0.03% (1 to 3194). There's a Potency scale, which defines which one of the three they are. 1 to 16 Potency are Standard, 17 to 20 are Potent, and 21, which is a maximum of Potency, are Perfect. Potency defines how much XP you need before you'll receive 3 free stat points for a Coromon. The more Potency, the less XP is needed to acquire them. Basically, it's like additional level ups that go hand-in-hand with your usual XP progression. That means that unlike purely-cosmetic Shinies, Perfects can be stronger than their Standard counterparts. You may think of those free points as EV (Effort Values), even though that is not entirely true. For PvE it doesn't mean much, however if you're into that, stat changes will be noticeable and will make your creatures stronger, especially later on. There is a major flaw of this game, and it is it's oldschoolity in some of the design. I'm talking about unskippable/slow animations, strange inventory/menu management, long, unneeded transitions. I've spent 24 hours of the game for 3 first sections of it and then I've given up. I didn't want to speed up the game, but I just couldn't bear it. I've beat last 3 sections of the game in 6 hours. x4 times faster than first half of the game. And I didn't skip content, I've still collected all the Coromon, looted everything, seen the map, etc. I liked the animations, they are really awesome, as well as Coromon's visuals. However, I really don't want to spend this much time watching the same animations happen a thousand time. You cannot speed them up via game settings, skip is out of question as well. I honestly recommend getting used to the game at it's usual speed, watching those sweet attack animations and such, and when you are used to the gameplay loop and are able to respond to enemies' attacks accordingly, just speed it up. If I would've completed the same game in, let's say, 15 hours, instead of 30, I would've been really happy with it. Now, I really do grieve over so much time spent on weird management and needlessly prolonged battles. Though I still did enjoy the game. Thank you for reading, I hope you'll enjoy Coromon with or without the need to use a cheat engine or such.Show moreShow less
The game overall is good, but just having a flappy mini game stopping you from progressing the story is infuriating and pointless.Show moreShow less
WHAT. A. GAME. So blown away by the amount of polish and care this game has. It's honestly the perfect alternative for Genwunners like me looking to scratch the itch of classic Pokemon games. PROS: - The QoL/accessibility features this game has is incredible. You can adjust so many settings here to either make the game easier or incredibly hard. For example, you can limit the times you can use the Trainer Hub (the Pokemon center of this game) to heal your Coromon. You can prohibit yourself from escaping matches. You can limit yourself to catching one Pokemon in each evolution line (No duplicates). - The synergy among skills is exciting. I found myself switching Coromons a lot in any given encounter to maximize damage output. Also helps that the fights are also difficult. You can't just spam one move because there are so many elements that alter a match. - BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION AND ART. CONS: - The Coromon names simply aren't as good as Pokemon. Pokemon names are unbeatable - There are repeat pallette swapped Coromons at the tail end of the database (the Pokedex). This game could use more Coromons. There are a 114 total. - Some of the puzzles might be too frustrating - The game is lacking in the story department. It introduces some interesting elements but doesn't do anything with them long term. There's a lot of stuff left up in the air. The story also loses steam near the end. - Needs more post-game content! I wanna hang in this world more! Give me a reason!Show moreShow less
It's alright. Starts really well but falls apart after second titan. Really rushes towards the end. Story is utter trash, dialogue is cringefest full of references and memes, bottom of the barrel writing. Balance is all over the place, physical mons may never learn a single physical move, only special, and vice versa. Looks like the people in charge of movesets simply didn't give a ***. Enjoy your favorite mon being borderline unusable because it doesn't get a single good move. Lots of eyerolling virtue signalling and agenda shoved in the game. Really takes me away from the catching monsters and making them fight thing that was supposed to be the focus. Whats good? The art and fakemon design are good. Music is nice. Coding is clean, no bugs. (Btw this game is sluggishly slow, grab Cheat Engine and use speedhack x1.5 to x2 for a better experience.)Show moreShow less
