I hoping negative reviews are a more helpful way of leaving feedback than the non-working feedback system in game. This started off looking promising, but there's a handful of really simple, REALLY disappointing quality of life features that should be a baseline in games like this: Quick transfers - You have to click and drag every item to every window. Need to move 5 stacks of something. Click and drag every single one. Auto run - No fast travel in this game (at the point where I am). If you want to move, you gotta hold move Toggle-Run - Want to spring while you're running across the map? HOLD. THAT. SPRINT. BUTTON. DOWWWNNNN!!!! The whole time. If you let go, you stop sprinting. Shortcuts - Your waypoint is North. So you better turn south, find the road leading east, eventually head north. Need to go back the way you came? Turn around, head west back down the road, and finally turn south again. Final thoughts: It says 8 hours, but there is a LOT of background time there from where it was just running. Probably 3 hours. This game is hollow as is. Buggy, shallow, empty. This game was announced about 6 years ago. Even if I had 8 full, dedicated hours of gametime, I got a notification that "the narrative portion of the game has ended. Please check back for updates!" It should be FINISHED. It's not even started. I mean that literally. The SIMPLEST of features are not there. I'd go as far as to say that this is a scam. Check out the announcement on Reddit 6 years ago on the IndieGaming subreddit. Shameful.Show moreShow less
Nice cowboy experience. Quiet and relaxing for the most part, some bandits to keep life interesting. Hunting, farming, crafting, and building your ranch and riches. Good old fashioned "cowboy" feeling story, lets you be the hero and save the day. Nice environment. Runs well, no problems. I'm enjoying it!Show moreShow less
This game is circling the drain just like my farm ... I have built everything laying out thousands of dollars and my farm is just slowly failing because everything in the game is set to rip you off. Everything you do is at a loss. The animals eat way more than they produce the crops require way more than they produce ...the sprinklers have now completely stopped even functioning . Before they would turn on for 5 seconds then turn off now they don't even turn on. The animals all eat way too much food and give you next to nothing. The iron is a joke ... just seems like another greedy dev balance to try to make a game look longer than it is. I have played like 29 hours and have realized I have been led down the garden path by another bunch of so called developers. Come on you get a free $200 that should tell you something , and you get money from doing all the mailbox quests and you are still thousands in the red ....what a joke.Show moreShow less
Game punches heavier than it's weight. Yesterday night, I accidentally found a tiny entrance of a underground cave by paying attention to my characters voice, he said something like "If it is treasure or ends up for me in a casket." I was like "What he is talking about?" and barely saw the tiny entrance. Hesitated to delve into it and gone away, checked my map for location but forgot to take screenshot and now can't find it because not remembering the spot. Today I devote myself to find it again. Game continues to live in your mind rent free with such occasions like that after quitting. Even in early access, no fatal bugs. Only a little temporary bug i have encountered is when you finish a mission and even it is not selected as "Show Completed Missions", it stays there until you save, quit and load back, that deletes it from active quests as it should be. One permanent bug happening constantly is I penned a goat, he rarely uses foods in animal feeder and I have to hand feed it all the time. That deters me from having more goats because of "What if I lose it by hunger." That directed me into more farming than ranching somehow even thou I wanted to be more of a rancher. Game is very promising. I hope it's "Getting better" curve will unfold like Survival FOTY. Now I'm heading back to my save to add 20 more hours into it for today.Show moreShow less
I'll start this longwinded review with a short tldr to save you all some time. For more details, well just read the whole thing. TL;DR. Game is in Early Access, and it very much shows and feels. It is littered with bugs. Some massive, some 'ok'. I hate when people praise a broken game by saying "it has potential" you cannot review nor predict the future. This is a typical "rushed out the door" Early Access title. Zero quality checking b4 release. 9 days after release the first patch finally comes. Fixes nothing.. One day later said patch got REVERTED because they fudged that up TOO. Avoid for NOW, let it cook for a few months. Check back a few months into 2026(or later) -- Not sure what it is with wild west/cowboy games. It seems no studio can make a proper bugfree FUN game. We have the worst in the genre in the last couple of years, Wild West Dynasty, and then we have this one. Now I'm not comparing those two games. But if I were, this one is better. BUT it also lacks some fun stuff that WWD actually has (dynasty, workers, etc). But it looks like THIS game will eventually allow you to have workers on your ranch? Dunno, I remember seeing a building called workers lodge or something. It's of course "not available in early access" - like so many other buildings and..stuff. But back to this game,, For a simulator, attempting to be realistic (dont call it simulator if you dont aim for realism), this game has many, maaany immersion-breaking 'features'. Selfcrafting workstations. And the best of all, UFOs ! Yes, we all know UFOs are very common on our night sky. When you start, you have barely anything. You got the old boring trope of you were given/inherited a 'farm/ranch' it's yours now good luck. (Or maybe its a farm we bought, whatever, who cares) When you arrive - and this is a minor spoiler of the first 5-10 minutes and basically the premise of the game - you find that the farm you got/bought/whatever has burned down. So again, we have to build from the ground up ourselves. Never seen THAT in these games before (sigh) You'll eventually build your own house. And workshop(s). And you can have a few animals too. You can build a chicken coop, so you can have chicken. They're only good for eggs and feathers. Because currently they dont even breed. Which doesnt help when you have recipes and QUESTS that asks for chicken meat. Which means, you literally have to go to the animal guy, buy chickens, just to butcher them right away. Forget breeding chickens and butchering along the way.. Oh if this was the only issue with animals I would be pleased... but alas...this is just the beginning my friends.. You can buy or capture rabbits. Throw them into the rabbit cage you built. Currently rabbits dont eat, so we dont even have to waste vegetables on them. You cannot pick them up and pet them or anything. No free-roaming, every other animal roams. Rabbits are forever stuck in their cage, til the day you decide to butcher them. But yes, they currently do not eat, add that to the pile of bugs. Then we have Goats. At first, nothing special here, everything seems to actually function. Female goats gives milk. Male goats, well they're there to I assume breed the females. And eventually be slaughtered for meat and hide(to be leather) But apparently they cannot breed if they are assigned to the "small animal home" (who calls it animal home??). So you build the "Medium animal home" once you unlocked it that is. That place fits twice as many "medium and big" animals (big being cows). Small home fits 4 goats or two cows. Medium home fits 8 goats and 4 cows. So, I built the medium animal home. Assigned my THREE goats, 2 females and 1 male to one of the two "pens" in this medium animal home. Right of the bat almost, they 'reproduced'. Aka, they made an offspring. Now the medium animal home has two 'nurseries' one in each pen. That's there the baby goat (and I assume baby cow) ends up. Can't interact with it, it's basically an non-interactable decoration. If you check the sign where you can see and change what aninals are assigned to the pen, I see my 3 goats, AND the baby goat in the corner of that window. And it says it will become an adult in 2.0 days. Note, it says 2 *point* 0, not twenty. And this is where the millionth bug happened for me. 10-11 days later, it says the baby goat will become an adult in 1.8 days. What the actual fudge? I can go literal days in-game without that 'countdown' moving even 0.1. EVEN if it's a typo and supposed to say twenty instead of 2 point 0, it still doesnt make sense. First of all 20 days? That's almost as long as I've played the damn game, no way. Even still, 10-12 days has passed, and it has then ticked down either 0.2 or 2 days. Its been 10-ish days! Oh and you cannot milk the damn goats when they're inside this big(sorry medium) animal 'home'. You have to literally wait for the damn goat to go outside so you can milk. Never heard of that being an issue at any point in human history, that you dont find enough space to sit NEXT to a goat and milk it in a bucket. Seriously. Haven't even bothered with Cows. Doubt they'll be bugfree. Like most buildings in the game, they are stupid big. Most of the space inside these workshop buildings , has zero use. Workshop for example, has a workbench, and unless you upgrade it, that's all you can do in the workshop. The bench is about the size of a kitchen table. Yet the entire workshop is bigger than the f-cking house. The Forge has 2 interactable workstations. Could easily fit them in a closet. But nope, gotta have the building take up a LOT of space. So you can make iron in the Forge. Currently there's a bug (surprised?) where if you use iron scraps or w/e the game calls it, instead of iron ORE, you can make infinite iron bars. Because the forge forgot to subtract your scraps when you use them as material. Why bother going to the mine to mine iron, when you can use *ONE* scrap forever and ever. Trees you cut down, actually grow back. Usually when you load into the game for your next gaming session. (aka, chop down a tree, save, quit, load save, and voila tree is back) Problem here though, is that the trees cares NOT where or what is in it's spot. Trees will grow thru buildings. I've had a tree grow right thru my Forge. And currently I have a tree that grew right thru one of my farmfields. Immersion is top notch in this game.. Crafting is ok though. It is both convinient, and immersion-breaking. Because you can just queue up stuff to craft at the workbench, and LEAVE. It will continue crafting the axe or whatever on it's own. Magic ! No seasons. It never gets colder or hotter. It's either sunny, cloudy, or raining. Day, or night(dawn and dusk too). And again not to forget, your flying spotlights during the nights (UFOs) Some of the bugs, seems to not pop up for some people. While other bugs pop up for them, but not for me. Another very annoying bug, that I'm not alone in having. Is what we call phantom items in inventory. See, the game is SO buggy, that currently I have about 7 or so slots in my inventory, occupied by invisible items. I cannot use 7 slots in my inventory (that number grows every day btw). You cannot drop it or sell it. You can sort of move it around in your inventory, but that does nothing, still takes up slots. I've also experienced NPCs spawning from the air. Even dublications of them. The sheriffs deputy is one example, just talked to him inside the office. Went outside, barely got out the door and there he is, on the street in front of me. Magic I tell ya! NPCs dont have voice lines, they mumble. Sounds like The Sims. Fortunately you can turn this off in the settings - so thx devs. (edit June 8 2026: UFOs weren't enough for these devs, we'll now have GHOSTS too. F-ck this game. Forget this one if you want immersion or realism)Show moreShow less
An exceptionally strong start from an EA title. I started this game thinking it would be comparable to the absolute tonne of other early access games slapping the "Simulator" title on the end of their name - most of which I ended up refunding because of bugs, lack of content, or just a really jank feeling to things. I was ready for the cringe vibes the second I started it. But, this game was really surprising for me. Off the bat, it runs great, looks great, animations seem good, and the voice acting of the lead character is actually really good - a choice which most sims either don't do, or do poorly. The setting is very nice, the map seems crafted well and feels vast. The UI is probably the best I have seen for a title just released to EA, and really does well in building your confidence in its development - the devs have clearly considered polishing the game up for its EA release. Rather than just saying the words, they have actually made it presentable, and don't seem to be peddling a product with a million "oh we'll fix this and that" promises. It's already simple and enjoyable to play. There's already a tonne of unlockables, crafting things, quests, and things that'll give you plenty of enjoyment, and I already feel an itch to play more after this review. The amount of content for the current price is awesome - I've paid more for other EA games which i've been happy with, with alot less content. You can see the directions which the devs are going in from alot of the crafting menus etc. which is nice, and i'm sure ill be coming back with each update. If you like early access journeys, this game is one to be a part of!Show moreShow less
So, played game for 43 hours so far and I can not recommend it at this time. Over all it is ok but lacks in many areas of game play. I am always trying to balance carry weight because items weight how much? your weights are not realistic. Just make toggle for all items weightless and have no slot restrictions. I want to play your game not play a storage game wasting playing time. You may want to google how things are in reality if you are making a simulator. Chickens sleep in the coop not on the ground, goats don't ♥♥♥♥ like a cow. Then there is the crafting, how long to make a bandage? 3hrs? I'm tired of trying to do a quest that expects 30 bandages in 7hrs and you can only make 1 every hour but must make 3 in 3hrs? and then the quality of food items you grow. I need lvl 3 grade food items to turn in but only get lvl 1 items. A child can grow perfect tomato with 0 skill in this world. The whole grade system is not simulator realistic. All this does is set you up to fail as you either cannot grow items in the time because it takes way longer then the quest provides and it is not realistic to have it on hand unless you know the quest will come up on a second play through. And what the heck is wrong with developers and their save system? Just let me make different saves. I don't have time to be punished especial when gun fights give no time to get to cover before they shoot me to death? Questing is ok if I can find where you need to go. Sometimes there are no markers on the map of where I need to meet up with an NPC and then when you find it they are not there between the hours posted? Just don't have time to wait for things to be fixed in game when you need to have it play tested first before even a per-release. Game does have potential but looks to have been pushed out so we have to give the developer a clue on content and fixing game.Show moreShow less
I have been playing Cowboy Life Simulator for a few days now and I am completely hooked. It is relaxing, charming and honestly one of the most enjoyable ranch / farm style games I have played in years. I have 28 in game hours and I’ve not come across any fatal bugs at all. I found little quirks like the a piece of floating goat poop, but that just adds to the early access charm. The only thing that bothered me *in the beginning* is the fact that it takes so long to get off your horse when the gang members creep up to you. After dying twice, I discovered the option that allows you to ask for more time to fetch your purse. I have not died since and I'm now I’m actively searching for the gangs. I believe that anyone who complains about that mechanic have (just like me in the beginning) not read the options. This is what a ranch/farming simulator is supposed to be. *Huge praise to the developers.* You created something special and I truly hope you keep building on it. Saddle up! This one is worth it.Show moreShow less
Do NOT buy this game at this point. The game is great in so many ways, and the reviews show it, but unfortunately it's a game heavily based upon farming even for ranching progression. Where the game fails is on a bug that many people (me included) are experiencing where crops grow to a point of "almost ready", but often they don't move to a ripe status, ready for harvest. Crops get stuck on a "ripens in: any minute!" status. If you read forums you'll find that people have waited for a whole in-game week waiting for this to clear; others restart the game or try other things, with no success; crops unpredictably become unharvestable for way too long. So why play a farming game where you simply can't harvest your crops when they are supposed to be ready for harvest? Worse, the developers should have by now realized that this has been happening for a good while to many players, yet they have done nothing to fix it. As I said, even the progression of the game story and ranching features is at times dependent upon growing and harvesting specific crops at select moments; hence this bug halts progress even in non-farming paths. Save your money until you see if this dev team fixes critical components of the game, or if this will be like 90% of EA games where developers milk (no pun intended) as much cash from players until they give up on development and the game gets abandoned and full of bugs. This is a strong NOT YET!!!Show moreShow less
