I am a big fan of amanita games and was waiting this one for quite a long time. I cannot express how disappointed I am. If you were expecting something like Machinarium, don`t waste your money on this. It`s not even nearby. Now to the point: - The game consist of identical type of puzzles(slightly changing the difficulty level). Every new location I was hoping to see something new. But no... again turning lights and avoiding dogs. - Puzzles are kinder garden level ! - At some point you realize that the game is sooo boooring -_- you are just repeating same actions... - Almost no interaction with the items. Indeed, the graphics and design is amazing. But hey, it should be balanced with the gameplay.Show moreShow less
The review consists not only of a look at the game played, but also of personal experience and opinion. This is just the author's opinion. The game has been completed with 100% achievements. Creaks is an arcade-style puzzle platformer from Amanita Design. Brief and to the point. The studio remained true to itself and once again created a beautiful, but strange game, just like all the game series in its collection. But the game is different in many ways... Let's start with the plot. A simple, modest young man tries to read a book in peace, but he is disturbed by a light bulb or the wallpaper, and behind them he finds many secrets. The plot is very unclear at first. We simply find the inhabitants running around and searching for something, and we actually become involved in the story towards the end! For me it was called: come up with a plot in your head yourself. If you dig deeper, it becomes clear: the hero entered the world as one person and left it as another. A simple but crucial moment, which, it seemed to me, constituted the entire plot. I could be wrong; this is simply my interpretation. Now about the main thing. The game didn't have the mechanics we were used to. Where's our inventory? Where are our conversations? We spend the entire game walking around solving simple puzzles, but perhaps what I liked about the game was its metaphor: in the dim light, even a coat rack can seem like a dangerous monster, but the light of a nightlight instantly dispels that illusion—true truth. I really liked the addition of the light mechanic and how the monsters fear it. Simple puzzles, well-drawn graphics, no inventory, no dialogue, not even a cloud with pictures... what is this? I think the story and meaning of this game for me is this: we're used to dialogue, being presented with a plot, given complex puzzles, constant battles, bosses, but in this game, you tactically think through and solve puzzles, and they're quite simple. You build the entire plot around your character's reactions and what's happening around you, cutscenes, scenes. You consider that there's a reason why things happen, and you brainstorm various conjectures, ideas, and everything that helps you build a plot. Yes, I think this game was something that really surprised and amazed me. Perhaps others will think differently, but everyone understands plot differently. Verdict. Creaks leaves a mixed impression. It's still the same Amanita, capable of creating a unique and strange world, reminiscent of a dream or a fairy tale. But it's not the same Amanita, because the story it tells doesn't touch the heart and quickly fades from memory. This is a new Amanita, one that, it turns out, can create coherent and varied mechanics for dynamic platform puzzles, not just for tasks involving finding the right item in your inventory. Something new is also good. I recommend it to everyone, especially those who enjoy puzzles and a complex, straightforward plot, and who want to explore and delve deeper.Show moreShow less
I desperately wanted to like this game since I am a huge supporter of Amanita Design (especially Machinarium), but I just found myself bored to death with the puzzles in the game. 2.4 hours into the game the same puzzle is thrown at you in increased difficulty as you progress. I tried to power myself through the puzzles (where you basically only manipulate enemy movement to get further), out of curiosity for the story, but I will have to put this one aside now. The reward for completing a room/section was not big enough for me so I will probably watch a playthrough later for the story. If you are okay with repetitive puzzles in increasing difficulty you will probably like the game though, since the artwork is really good and the soundtrack is nice as usual for an Amanita game. But if you are going into this game hoping for a Machinarium-adventure like experience it is very possible you might be as disappointed as me.Show moreShow less
While it departs from the point-and-click format that Amanita is best known for (in favor of more platformer-like gameplay), Creaks delivers all of the same charm and substance of their previous titles like Machinarium, Botanicula, and the Samorost Series. The environments and soundtrack are striking, and the puzzles are well balanced to make you think, but not trip you up and claw your hair out.Show moreShow less
I don't think Creaks meets the standard Amanita has set for themselves with their previous games. There are interesting gameplay ideas thrown in, and I liked the later puzzles, but I don't know if I can remember a moment where there were more than two unique enemies on the screen you had to deal with. I don't think that sacrificing many original tracks is worth having a number of ambient ones that only swell for a few seconds when you find the solution to a puzzle. I don't need or want a deep, complex story in an Amanita game, but this game's story is much too shallow for how much time it takes if cutscenes aren't skipped. Unfortunately, I think Amanita's extreme attention to detail ends up going to waste a lot of the time. The nature of Creaks means that you need to go out of your way to appreciate environmental details. If you think something stands out or looks interesting, you need to stop playing the game in order to appreciate it. This can lead to a lot of the areas, which are all amazingly detailed, going unappreciated when they aren't superficially interesting enough to catch the player's attention. The strength of Machinarium or Samorost's art is that you are forced to engage with it to play the game; no inch of art goes unappreciated in a point-and-click game when you need to look for things to point and click on. I was very interested in Creaks' development, and I checked every update Amanita gave for it leading up to its release. I have played almost every other Amanita game, and I have loved them all; many of them are some of my favorite games. If there was anyone who was going to defend and love this game, it would be me. Is Creaks a bad game? No, absolutely not. I still enjoyed my time with it, despite my gripes. If this were the work of an average studio, I would probably be praising it. Amanita Design is not an average studio, though. I hope that they can learn from Creaks and come back with another great game in a few years.Show moreShow less

Warning, highly subjective opinon. I hoped for point and click adventure but got a platformar. The rest is all fineShow moreShow less
I didn't know what to expect from this game. While the developer always has outstanding graphics and audio, some of the reviewers were unkind as to the storyline/gameplay. I purchased it anyway as I have always liked Amanita games. I was not disappointed. The game's graphics, while dark and subdued, were beautifully rendered and lent the right tone to the story. The music was lovely and not overpowering and sound effects did not distract from gameplay. As to gameplay, I would describe it as Amanita version of the first "Rooms" game but with a better story, graphics, and gameplay. Yes, the basic play is to escape from chambers (rooms) as you move through this fantasy world. This type of gameplay has intermittent breaks when you get a periodically come across some artwork pieces that have their own puzzles to solve. As your character makes his way through this world, you gradually realize the plot and the nature of the characters you find. The puzzles are challenging and never boring. It's not a violent game but gentle with a satisfactory ending. I'm very tired of games that leave me in limbo waiting for a subsequent games to purchase in order to determine the fate of my character only to find out my doom is my inevitable future with no chance of salvation. I'm sorry; I need a little hope right now. If developers have the power to create a world and story for others to enjoy, why not create one that inspires and doesn't depress. Amanita games leave me inspired. I hope to see more from them. A sequel to this game would be welcome. As for me, I intend to play the game again right after I finish this review to discover rooms and paintings I missed. As for recommendations, if you want a fighting/battle game, move on. If you want a thoughtful game with interesting puzzles and graphics and a charming story, this is the game for you.Show moreShow less
Well, graphics and music are amazing. The problem is the puzzles. First of all, they have nothing to do with the plot. At the beginning of the game you don't really get whats happening story wise and the whole thing just feel like work - solving puzzles which are all basically the same, and not fun at all. At the end it feels like your getting the compensation for all the hard work you've put in, in the form of some amazing art and a little bit of story. Can't decide if to recommend or not. For sure, developers could have done a better work, and they have in the past.Show moreShow less
