They took Crisis Core out of the PSP, but they didn't take the PSP out of Crisis Core. I have a ton of respect for the original Crisis Core, but I would've hoped to see this version restructured to have slightly less shallow combat, actual level design, and encounters executed any other kind of way. The VA leaves a lot to be desired, especially Zack, who feels extremely phoned-in. And to top it all off, they didn't even bother updating any of the CG scenes. They didn't even try to recreate them in-engine. It's like watching a rip of the Advent Children UMD on your television. At the end of the day, if you love CC, voice acting aside, it's probably the best way to go about playing it. But man, for $50 bucks, it's not as good as it should be.Show moreShow less
Thanks Square Enix! Next is Dirge of Cerberus please?Show moreShow less
TL:DR: I recommend the game itself, but! Wait until half price, the overhauled parts do NOT warrant full price! I loved the original. And i never thought id get a remaster. But here we are. Positives: - The overall graphics update isnt perfect, but its good enough. For me at least. - The combat overhaul feels way better, more fluid - Camera. OMG the camera. Finally i can look around a corner properly without having to break my fingers. - overall feels the same as when i played it the first time. Negatives: - the Voices. I am so sorry, but this is not Zack. This is not Sephiroth. Or Genesis. most of the lines, compared to the original, sound so flat, so unemotional... In one of the limit breaks, where Sephiroth says "CONCENTRATE!" in the original, i used to sit up properly every time. Here its just a bored "concentrate..." The voices sound so detatched from their characters... Zacks voice is too high. Sorry, big NO! If anyone ever makes a Mod with an original Voice-Over, ping me, i need it! For everyone who plays it the first time it might be ok tho... - i am only 3,5 hours in, my biggest gripe is the voices. Will update if i find anything else that bugs me Should you buy it? I got this game for 39 British pounds. And only because my BF insisted i get this as a Christmas Present. (I LOVE him for it) But so far, i would recommend you wait until its half price. As much as i love it, the bit of work they have done does not warrant a full price Tag.Show moreShow less
Please include an original Crisis Core PSP Voice Option, i would even pay for it as a DLC!Show moreShow less
The game is fine and the price tag is not worth it. It's just Crisis Core. The 3D models are updated but you can tell the rigs are reused- the character movements are over the top to accommodate the more stylized models of the original Crisis Core, and look really dumb with the more realistic models of Reunion. The cutscenes are re-used except for maybe one that you can tell was rendered in-engine. Again, the game is great, I like Crisis Core a lot! Just download an emulator and play the PSP version, the remake is not worth $50.Show moreShow less

This is my all time favorite game. It's been 15 years. And till this day when someone asks what's my favorite game, I always reply "Crisis Core". This. Is not that game. This is an utter dissapointment and I'll explain why. For the amount of work and effort put in, this game should have a starting price of 20 in comparison to FF7 Remake at 70. First of all, it's meant to be a remaster but it also tries to be a remake. Fails at both. What we get is a 50% Remaster 10% Remake 40% Original. This really hurts the game's visual identity. You can't have 3 artstyles getting mixed like this. 3 consepts, 3 levels of quality. It feels like constantly alt tabbing between games. AI Upscaled 480p videos for scinematics look horendous on a big PC monitor. They are full of noise and look way worse than actual in-game rendered graphics. Square Enix didn't bother recreating them. It's shown in youtube video comparisons too. They changed the contrast + blur amount and slapped them back in. From cutscenes to in-game cutscenes to actual gameplay, the graphical inconsistancy is so vast it makes me want to vomit. There are literally around 5 versions of how Zack looks within 10 minutes of gameplay with each one looking vastly different than the others. The new reconstructed 3D models and faces. The whole artstyle refactor in general is a downgrade compared to the original. Zack now looks like an actual puppy. It's no longer an inside joke, it has become reality. Same for many more characters who now have jerky facial animations. Not just the fact they are cartoonish, the animations themselves are unpolished. Character moves his head 3 cm slowly? Hair physics skyrocket like he was hit by a truck. Sephiroth now looks like those memes "I want a Sephiroth" "But sweety we have a Sephiroth at home" The Sephirorth: Same story for the sounds. Half the audio from the original game hasn't been recreated. Imagine fighting enemies and they play the old grunt sounds when being hit while your character says some lines that are HD. Then your sword slashes are also HD while the "Activating Combat Mode" announcement sounds like it was recorded in a toilet for comparison. I love that original "activation" line but... who thought this was a good idea? The soundtracks were amazing but they did need a refresh just like Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Nope. They didn't bother remaking them. You'd be fooled. Yes, now imagine watching a scinematic where: The ost in the background is SD The voice overs are HD The video quality is noisy and upscaled 480p so it's WORSE than SD The subtitles are clean sharp 4K. WHAT WENT WRONG? It's called FF: Crisis Core not FF: Identity Crisis. The controls, movements and camera are clunky and feel bad. They tried to copy the PSP era equivalent to stay true to the original. This is not how you stay true to the original. You keep what makes it good and fix/polish the rest. The changes that were made hit all the wrong spots. The original game really needed some quality of life improvements. Things that weren't done back then because of technical limitations on CPU and RAM. Instead they now polished all those things. Albeit. They're no longer bad. They are bad in 4K. Last but not least. I can't stress how bad Zack's new voice is. The actor himself is good, don't get me wrong. But he's not fit for Zack and especially the way he's forcing his voice making it sound unnatural. This consern has been voiced many times in the community the past months. I won't bash on it any further but I will wait for a mod that replaces all the VAs with the PSP original ones. Ignore the 0.4 hours playtime my review claims. I've a lot of gameplay footage because I had conserns before buying this game. Those weren't fixed. The missions system is an absolute massive and pointless time sink, I was BEGGING for it to change. A lazy copy paste is what we get. The level design is still the same. You hug around the walls and no combat gets initiated since there's a circle in the middle. This insentivizes you to ignore all encounters and level up from the missions instead. Also your world traversal ends up being Zack The Wall Humper. AI in this game is still the same bad. They either stand still or aimlessly wonder around. I still bought it to give it a chance. And it became worse. 50 euro price tag for THIS. The audacity. It's so bad I wouldn't even pirate it. I'll buy it for 10 on deep deep sale just because I love the PSP original and want it in my colleciton. A shame Square Enix. An utter shame. I will refund it. 1/10 rating. The price of this game is steep.Show moreShow less
Bring back Zacks VA and its a 10/10Show moreShow less
There are slight improvements in performance and graphics, but definitely not worth the steep price tag. For a Square Enix PC port, I'm honestly impressed I got through the entire game without any crashes or bugs. The new voice actor for Zack is also complete garbage. Zack is one of my favorite characters from the FF universe and they did my boi dirty on this one. I'd reco just getting a PSP emulator and playing the OG. If you HAVE to play this one, download the mod to replace Zack's VA with the original.... No joke, this MF they got for Zack's voice in the new game reminds me of Pauly Shore from "Pinocchio: A True Story". Like Square, what are y'all doing these days? It is honestly impressive how consistently you keep missing the mark. Rant over. I'm sad.... Me? Gongaga! (RIP Rick Gomez)Show moreShow less
