Listen. The game itself is fun. BUT, it's a demo that's marketed as free to play. You can't bring anything above uncommon loot into runs without hitting the paywall. It's kind of a scummy marketing tactic that as of writing doesn't seem to be marked down anywhere on the store page.Show moreShow less

The game is ultimately ran by an idiotic dev who continuously pushes widely controversial and disliked patches to satisfy his own “vision” for the game. Every other week the game changes drastically just to either be reverted due to warranted backlash or to buff/nerf skills and gear that NO ONE is asking for, instead of pushing out actual content that’s been promised for months/ years. F2P is practically no longer a thing, now the free to play players are put into lobby in which they can only use COMMON grade gear (you can literally buy it from vendors it’s completely useless). They are pushing f2p players to either buy the game, play for nothing, or quit. It used to not be like this. After 3 years of solos, duos, and trios queues, the lead dev SDF decided he wanted to REMOVE solos and duos. The game is ONLY trios now despite a large amount of the playerbase being solos. Ironmace is also refusing to refund the players who are upset they are basically losing the game they paid for within the last 3 years. The game will soon probably die because of 1 selfish manchild of a developer who acts upon his own accord, disregarding his fellow devs advice, alongside completely ignoring the opinion of the community.Show moreShow less
I have more than 1k hours in this game and I've been playing since the second play test. I want clarify some things. For those who are confused on how I have so many hours, this game was released over 1 year ago but on its own launcher outside steam. There is an existing player base around 10k - 15k players who bought and play the game well before the steam release The game being P2W: Update (Hotfix #53): Legendary accounts (bought the game) have 9 character slots, an extra stash tab, can go high roller mode (ranked/hardcore) and can buy and sell items in the marketplace. Squire accounts (F2P) have 1 character slot, don't have and extra tab, can't go high roller and can only buy items in the market. The benefits that legendary accounts have don't impact in any way the PvP experience in the normal gamemode that are available to F2P players. There is NO P2W. Skins: Cosmetic skins gives a positive status and a negative status (like +3 vigor but you can't wear helmets), some skins in fact can give a bit of advantage in certain cenarios, but mostly won't make a relevant difference, most skins can be obtained by just playing the game to accumulate blue shards and completing merchant's quests. The game being marketed as F2P but having a paywall: A more appropriate term is free to try or extended demo. in normal gamemode you can experience all maps and all bosses the only thing you're missing out is the high roller mode which have a 100 gold entry and is way more punitive than norms. In high roller you'll go against advanced players with no gear restriction and mobs that do twice damage, have more life and move twice as fast, some even have different attack patterns. I agree that they should allow for more than 1 character slot. The game has a very immersive feel and a slow paced combat that rewards timing, awereness and planning, don't try to facetank enemies because even a goblin can kill you. Most monster have clear patterns of attacks that can be dodged by just learning their mechanics. If you enjoy immersive and punitive experiences feel free(not so much) to try. Update I didn't expect this review to gain so much visibility so I think it's only fair to also address some of the negative aspects as well. UI and navigation: The usability is very convoluted and hard to understand at first, especially the merchants section and inventory/stash management. Gold in this game is also an item that takes up inventory space, when you buy items with merchants you need to fill the cost requirement and confirm to get the item you want. Inventory management is very clunky and you need to move items around a lot, there are plenty of hidden commands that makes the chore a little easier, like shift + right click to move instantly between your inventory and stash. Development cycle: Until now, their development cycle seemed very chaotic, their iterations didn't seem to follow a solid path and they often seemed lost on their own vision for the game. They kept removing and adding the same features over and over, reintroducing things that already didn't work just to remove them again later, nerfing classes for no aparent reason and not addressing classes that needed a nerf. They also have a dedicated test server that wasn't well integrated in their workflow, crazy features like multiclassing were being tested in the main game instead of the test server, that in theory was exactly for that purpose. Balancing, gear power and meta: In high roller, combat is more like rock paper and scissors, you either have a good match up against another class or you don't, there's not much you can do about it. Combat also becomes a stat check, whoever has the biggest numbers wins. There is an ongoing meta strategy called "buffball" were a team takes two buffing classes (bard, cleric) to enhance a DPS (figher, mage, barbarian), the devs tried to nerf this combo multiple times but without success. I want to remind that this game is still in early access and has come a long way since their launch. The devs are very approachable and often interacts with the community, responding to messages on their discord (even sassy ones) and participating in streammer interviews.Show moreShow less
This game installs an additional application called tavern, It installed it on my C drive when my steam directory is different, this application scans unrelated hard drives and runs as system which is a massive security risk. On top of this it IS NOT removed when you uninstall the game via steam.Show moreShow less

I started playing this game with a friend and we had such a blast! We are still new players. Until the newest Patch dropped where the developer of this game decided to remove Solo and Duo from the "Normal" runs. There is only Trio now where we absolutely have no chance against 3 players. Solo and Duo's are only available in the "End Game" Dungeons where people with stupidly strong gear and much more playtime rule the runs. We have absolutely no chance there. I just dont get it, why some developers dont ask the community what they want and what not. This developer has absolutely no clue what is good for his game and he just randomly makes changes which make absolutely no sense. I mean... is he rolling dices at home when he doesnt know what to change or what? This game was very fun to play but with the recent patch my friend and i stopped playing. Let's hope this change will be reverted.Show moreShow less
Gigachad devs hear community complain that there's not enough "game" with their "free game", so they remove the gear caps the community was complaining about. After the nexon lawsuit, these devs aren't just based, they're the whole foundation.Show moreShow less
In it's current state. I have to say no. Don't worry about play hours, I've played at least 500+ hours in the last year before it came to steam. This is all my experiences, and feedback from following and playing the game for the last year. This doesn't mean you won't enjoy it, but definitely play awhile in Free to play mode before you decide to put in money to buy the full version, it's free, so no risk trying it, and your mileage may vary. I'll gladly and happily change this review if things change. I want this game succeed but I can't in good faith recommend it in its current state. Edit: After waking up and re checking my review. it's easy to see the DaD fanboys (who are as toxic as LoL players), came out of the wood work. Which is actually something I forgot to add. The player base can be extremely toxic. Thanks for reminding and proving that guys! ------------- So why don't I recommend it? Many reasons. * Devs have no direction. They've proven this in the last year, as they keep flip flopping on core design, and has left everything else at the wayside. This is the root of all the other problems I'm going to list, as instead of actually pushing the game forward, its been going in circles balance change wise for over a year, and its never been good, and i don't mean personal opinion good or bad either.. I'm meaning game instability bad, cheater galore bad, and classes so unbalanced, even the try hard supporters will admit only 2 classes are viable in most of the year. Fighter, Barbarian. or Warlock, depending on which shift that current patch favored. They will say 1 thing, then do another.. + All Attribute stat was put in, removed, put in again, removed, put in again, removed again... Just 1 of handfulls of examples.. + all Attribute completely destroyed the games balance and fun each time, yet they kept insisting on adding it again and again and again. Update 6/10/2024 As of today: They are changing Free to Play "Normal" Mode to allow ALL gear qualities. Now off the bat this may seem like a great idea. But its not. I'll explain. 1) The Normal Mode is split into 2 Match Making Q's.. "Common" or under, so basically what it is prior to this update. Or everything else. This means the moment a new player puts on a green item, they can now go up against chads in legendary and purple gear that 1 shot you and just roll you. This is how the game used to be for a year. Before they changed it so Normals was common only. 2) This devalues HR mode. HR mode is the mode originally where you'd go with green+ gear.... Making HR almost pointless... Instead of finding ways over the year to give incentive to HR mode, and fill it out with more players, they keep making changes that makes it pointless to play. This means all the highest skilled players, are going to be pub stomping in Normals becaues HR is dead.. There is no point anymore to do it. This knee jerk change happened, just 2 days after writing this.. Which is another example of IMs knee jerk, ping ponging and sweeping changes that adds more problems than fixes on a large scale, as well as bringing back problems from a year ago.. We've already had this system... it didn't work for a plethora of reasons... * Cheater pandemic. This problem has been hit or miss. There are large points in time where cheaters are almost non existent.. Then there are times where they just run everything over. * Server Instability If your internet is 100% perfectly stable, you will rubberband, and rubberbanding in this game is a 100% death sentence. Even to PvE, because PvE can chunk half your health in 1 shot depending on your class. And that's when the server is actually behaving itself.. * Balance issues galore I could write 10 pages alone on this issue. They have never remotely in over a year got a balance in this game that isn't a complete crap show. As I mentioned before, generally 1-3 classes will reign supreme and run everyone over... Wizards and Rogues have been nerfed to virtually uselessness for half a year, and the ping ponging back and forth in balance design philosophy just makes it worse. There is no end in sight for this either, as they still by their own admittance are just throwing crap at the wall and hoping it sticks. (Their words literally, not mine) * Stale gameplay in the long term, with boring "metas", and frustratingly simple and lack luster combat. After you get past learning how PvE works, and getting the hang of combat in the game, you start to realize the actual lack of any depth or skill expression in the game. It is entirely 85% stat checking the other player, except you have no idea what stats they have. you have no idea even based on gear, as that plate could be junk, or it could be legendary best armor in the game, and there is no distinction. You then realize this game is all about holding the W key and yoloing, and hoping for the best, because combat in this game comes down to throwing up whatever buffs your class has, and pressing the attack button, and block button, that's it.. That's all there is to combat. This has lead to the same "meta" for a year now.. Where EVERYONE just spams throwables, and ranged attacks for 95% of the fight, then closes in to see who can finish each other off first in a stat check. That's the gameplay.. that's it.. Edit: I wanted to clarify this part, as people are getting confused. When I say the game is mostly "yolo holding the W key" I'm saying that's how the majority of players play it. It's boring, and when you know what you're doing, those players are just cannon fodder and easy to deal with. If you play against players who know what they're doing. The game devolves into ranged throwing matches, where you're either lobbing Fran axes, throwing daggers, or spamming xbows at each other, until one of you hits the other enough times you feel you like you can yolo in and finish the job in 1 or 2 hits.. Again, boring as heck, when all the melee specific characters just default to ranged throwing weapons for 95% of the engagement every time. * Terrible PvE, that doesn't stay true to its design or selling point. So you think "well what about PvE? This is a dungeon crawling game right?" No.. It's a Pvp Arena game first, dungeon crawler second, if you're lucky. The PvE are all very basic. 99% of the time, players will just cheese bosses, because depending on your class it'll be impossible to even deal with them, as a solo player. (Not including the bosses in the goblin caves which are actually soloable by anyone). By cheesing I mean jumping up onto a ledge where the boss can't hit you and jabbing it in the face 100 times. That's about the extent of engaging gameplay you can find in this game PvE wise.Show moreShow less
