My friend said that if I write a review for this game and it gets 300 likes and 150 rewards then he will get me an RTX 4090 and 20 bags of Chilli Heatwave Doritos. I'll leave this here and hope you guys do your magic. Help a brother outShow moreShow less
The developer of this game has shamelessly stolen a piece of work created by a fan for this game after the developer offered to PUBLISH this workpiece as official material, then proceeded to lie about the events on Twitter. (thread) This is unacceptable.Show moreShow less

I'm currently soft locked with agitha. I've beaten her room 3 times in a row and when the cut scene starts and the door opens, a bomb goes off and kills me mid-cut scene. I've tried closing the game, changing difficulty. Nothing works. I would love to play the game further but I can't play until this bug is fixed.Show moreShow less
I am a 52 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing Dark Deception. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son found this game at Christmas, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. Loaded into the game world and started playing but I was stuck on what you were supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he helped me. Loved it as it was the best time had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories. Thank you <3Show moreShow less
The company behind the game: - shamelessly stole a fangame after contacting the individual about publishing, then proceeded to lie about the events when called out for it - silences anyone saying any negative about the game (or the company's decisions) (block, ban from their discord...) - rigged a gamejam And other scummy stuff they've done documented here That being said, what about the game itself? The good things about the game would be the voice acting, sound design and texture work. The soundtrack also is great. That however as you may point out are not really gameplay related, which I'm gonna get to. The game has a lot of potential to be great and its older versions (pre ch4) were actually better! (more fun and better looking too in terms of lighting!) and the game has a solid gameplay loop from the 1st to 3rd level. The game currently is a unfinished (I don't mean the chapters system), rushed, poorly designed, buggy and broken mess. - *tons* of softlocks that are easy to accidentally trigger - broken animations/cutscenes, tons of T poses and repeating voicelines, weird reverb on some instances - a *mountain* of bugs, noclips, buggy AI/pathfinding (particularily in the theme park level) - missing subtitles for the majority of the 4th chapter. - very weird map/environment collisions in some instances The quality of levels also decreases as you progress through the game: from well thought of mazes like the hotel level and the manor level, to copy pasted straight lines and rushed, unchallenging mazes (notably the sewer and the bear level). For example, at the end of the very first level when you go back to the lobby floor, if you die to the monkeys chasing you, you'll be softlocked and stuck in a loop where the enemies spawn way too early and makes escaping impossible, forcing you to restart the entire level. The entirety of the last level also is a chore to go through. From unfair rng-based stealth sequence to endless dull map layouts. You can also easily get softlocked in the last maze section of the game. If we don't take the bugs into account the game remains mediocre overall and has been trying really hard to appeal to the mascot horror/lore crowd. Some main-game cutscenes are just lore dumping of things previously told in other levels. If you truly want to play, I highly recommend playing the 1.6.1/Chapter 3 version. Otherwise, not worth the money (for complete/the other chapters)Show moreShow less

I was eagerly anticipating the long-delayed release of Chapter 4 after the release date was repeatedly pushed back time and time again despite Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals being released and consistently updated with new content. The first three chapters were a joy to play and looked absolutely gorgeous so I was very happy when a release date was finally announced for the fourth chapter; September 28th. That day has since come and gone and I have spent around six hours playing through the bug-infested mess that was seemingly in the works for well over a year. Below are my particular experiences, in case you were wondering. Nurse Level --> Played through the main game relatively fine, but the level was must certainly not enjoyable because invisibility is a frustrating mechanic, especially when that means you're left to track through sound in a map that constantly has the sound of your own footsteps and some lasers that would be more than happy to fry you. Felt it was too easy for something this late in the game and would be far from the hardest S rank to achieve, but even so it wasn't enjoyable. The boss fight, while an interesting concept, was a little buggy insofar as random deaths while teleporting occurring at times, but was nothing gamebreaking. In the end, it was a good concept but invisiblity was such a random thing to give to nurses on rollerblades and really took away from the intriguing design you had going because I couldn't see them half the time. Joy Joy Gang --> This was an absolute mess. When I initially played through the first level no enemies even spawned, so I just collected all the shards and was then forced to restart my game when I was unable to progress despite my tablet saying that 0 shards remained. Outside of that, this level was once again surprisingly easy up until the boss fight. It was upon taking the elevator down on the level prior to the animatronics combining into one 'big boss' for project killjoy that my performance absolutely tanked. I possess a relatively high-end PC and my framerate, which had always been absolutely fine on every other game I've played and every other dark deception chapter, began plummeting to <20 FPS and stayed this way for the remainder of the level, meaning I had to play through all 3(?) repetitive boss fights on what felt like Microsoft Powerpoint. I actually crashed on the fight with the 4 levers once I got the combined animatronics onto the platform and pushed them into the lava. My game completely crashed and when I booted it back up I was running from Malak on the next part of the level, so I completely missed that cutscene and exposition. I finished the level and the cutscene was quite interesting, but obviously that does not make up for the buggy and laggy gameplay that I was subjected to in the minutes prior. This chapter took AGES to ship, surely you beta tested it timelessly? I do not understand how issues so large as the enemies not even showing up on the level made it to the live version. Mama Bear --> The cutscene prior to this did not look very good. The scenery and locations in this game are gorgeous -- the best I've seen in any game I've ever played, but the character models look far from sharp a lot of the time and having all of them in one place really exposed this flaw. The murder monkeys from the original chapter look sharp and detailed, as do Malak and Agatha, but characters like Bierce and the protagonist Doug(?) just looked out of place because they were less detailed and less sharp, looking almost rounded (no boob joke here, sadly). I don't know if this is just a design flaw or if the plot will become increasingly convoluted and explain this away as it being a result of their habitation of the pocket dimension making them less 'real'. Anywho, I'd like to talk more about this level but the final gamebreaking bug I have been presented with does not allow me to do so. Upon entering the trigger teddy maze, an awake trigger teddy spawns right around the corner from the main area, meaning there is a trigger teddy blocking each passageway to advance, 2 of which are asleep and 1 of which is awake. I restarted my game multiple times and downloaded the patch, but the bear remains awake. I've watched multiple gameplays by popular youtubers and they do not have this same issue -- they are able to instantly run down a corridor and not have it be blocked. I downloaded the patch that was very quickly pushed but it did not solve my issue with the trigger teddies, I assume the fixes were primarily aimed at the Joy Joy Gang level because of the abundance of issues there. I shall keep an eye out for any more fixes as I waited for this chapter to release for over a year and intend on finishing it and getting an S in both new chapters, but I am incredibly demotivated by how lacklustre and bug-infested this new release is. Thus, I would not recommend this game to anyone looking to buy it. Currently. The first three chapters were a joy to play even if some levels were tricky -- the challenge was good and enjoyable. However, the fourth chapter is buggy, laggy and simply unpolished. I would tell you to wait with your money and keep an eye on the new releases for the game, hoping more patches are pushed that will fix the issues I have presented in this review. It is release day and I am thoroughly disappointed with the unfinished and unpolished chapter I have been presented with, but the first three chapters were of such astounding quality that I will keep an eye on this space in case more patches are released over the coming days. Edit To Developer Response 29/09/2021 Response from the developers is attempting to imply the game is not working because my PC is bad. Not only is my PC completely fine, but if it wasn't that would only explain the lag. Not only is your response attempting to pass the blame on to ME as the consumer rather than accepting your faults as the developer, but it still fails to explain how levels like the first stage of the joy joy gang were able to spawn in a glitched state without the enemies even being there. Dark Deception is a high-end game, but I have ran higher-end games with no issues and literally only the last half of the joy joy gang boss fight is where the lag was insane, the other 98% of Dark Deception as a game is fine. Even if the lag was due to my PC which, as explained in my original review, is not the case, to imply that the bugs occurring is a result of my PC rather than your own incompetence is ridiculous. My experience is not a unique one. Check all the discussions and the master thread for chapter 4 bugs. There are many, and even Youtubers such as 'SuperHorrorBro' who got early access had the same issues. These issues are of your own making, not due to our 'low-end' computers. Low-end devices cannot create impossible levels and levels that are entirely missing their bosses, only low-end developers can. It is rude, dismissive and unprofessional to blame the customer for your own shortcomings instead of admitting to where you went wrong and attempting to fix it. Response to updated developer response: I will say this one more time. My PC is not the problem and you are fixating far too much on people using high or low-end PC's to run your game when the frame issues are only a small part of the problem. How do you explain me encountering ALL these issues with a perfectly functioning, high-end PC? You are unwilling to admit your mistakes and seem to believe your game is perfect. You will not listen to my words, so I will direct you to the words of others. Look at your own discussion forums. https://steamcommunity.com/app/332950/discussions/ All but TWO threads on the first page (2/15) at the time of posting are complaining about bugs or lag, and that's after the three patches that have been rolled over the last 18~ hours. You'll happily blame all their different PC's but never the same game that they're all playing.Show moreShow less
