To be honest it was a pretty tough choice to not recommend this game, it was a childhood favorite of mine, and I can tell a fair bit of effort was put into the remake. To keep it simple, I'll list some pros and cons, and then I will go into further detail for those who would like to read more. Pros: -The game is well optimized and holds a steady framerate at 60+fps -The locations are really nicely made. Most of the buildings have real interiors which you can see inside of, and NPC's interact with each other and the world around them; these places feel like they're actually lived-in, which creates a lot of charm. Cons: -The physics system is mediocre at best. It works well enough when it comes to gameplay, but it's janky almost everywhere else. When I throw people long distances, or even just directly into the air, they tend to float down feet-first, kind of like if they were falling into water, this is something that *should* be fun to watch, but instead just looks weird. When you destroy a building, it triggers a pre-rendered 15fps explosion animation instead of relying on a real physics engine to do the work; sure, this makes the game easier for low-end computers to run, but it looks incredibly janky when you're playing at a higher fps. -The character models look weird. The devs took a much more cartoonish stylistic direction in the remake, and I can respect that as it can prevent a game from looking dated as time goes on, but honestly I think they took it a little too far. The Majestic NPCs look like they've all had their heads squashed, 90% of the rednecks look completely inbred, and the skirts on some of the female NPCs look less like actual outfits and more like skimpy Halloween costumes. Some character models have been completely changed; like the crackpot, who was originally somewhere in his 20's or 30's, is now a balding old codger. -The game is too easy. Seriously, I haven't died once (unless I deliberately killed myself to revert to a previous checkpoint). -Enemies are way too squishy now; I can dispatch a tank with one charge of electricity. -They messed up PK. PK is very snappy now, instead of the more weighted and sluggish PK from the original game. You can also PK while using abilities, and they've removed the PK meter, so there's basically no point in using weapons unless its for a challenge. They completely removed the ability to crush people using PK (without actually throwing things at people), when you slam a car against someone IT SHOULD KILL THEM. -They messed up brain extraction. You can extract brains extremely quickly now; paired with PK, it completely nullifies the need for weapons at all. -The change when upgrading is hardly noticeable most of the time because you're already so overpowered. -The UFO has an invincibility button: R -They added sprint for some reason? -The abduction beam, like the PK, has no real weight to it, and can no longer be used like a wrecking ball, making it boring to use. Plus you can't fling people around using the old "lasso effect". Parts from certain exploded buildings aren't physics interactive either (unlike in the original game, where you could use the pointy end of the washington monument like a battering ram, for example.) -You can't incinerate people with explosions or the lazer death ray, which you could do in the original. -They removed the secret unlockable music and movies from the original, removing almost any reason to collect probes. They thought skins would be cooler I guess, but I disagree. -There is no real reason to play the challenges or collect DNA aside from upgrades, making the game much easier. In the original you needed to get enough dna to progress. -The lighting effects are cheap and devoid of character. -Characters would flail when you PK'ed them in the original, and they don't do that in the remake (there are loads more tiny details which are missing from the remake). All-in-all it's still a great game, it retains a lot of the charm from the original, and it brings me back to a simpler time, but I just wish that they would have stayed a bit more close to the original in terms of gameplay, since a lot of the changes they made offset the balance of the game completely or made it less fun. This game's review section suffers from paid shills and people who haven't played the original and it shows. THQ, don't touch the sequel, and if you do, keep it the way it was and just focus on adding better textures.Show moreShow less

This is a censored product. During the mission 'Earth Girls Are Easy', the line "So vocal, so responsive... this is gonna be good." when Miss Rockwell is being abducted is completely cut out. I don't know if this is the only example. EDIT: My post in the discussion section about this topic has been deleted. Not locked, just wiped from existence. In the video below (edit, some people have time stamp issues, so start at 30:07) you can see the original scene. https://youtu.be/dvv6SuTm_L4?t=1821 And in the following video, you'll see the 2020 version of the same scene (start at 29:32) . https://youtu.be/6r2AWdR7Mvk?t=1775 Interestingly, they saw fit to add a disclaimer to the start of this game, warning people it may contain content that would upset twitter users. I find it strange to act as if you're simply remastering the game, not cutting anything some may find offensive, then do it anyway. I'm not interested in supporting censored products, I'm posting this to inform anyone that feels the same way. You can explain how little you care, or how it's not censorship since you agree with it, in the comments if you'd like.Show moreShow less
I think this proves the concept. And it's a nice piece of nostalgia for sure. Now please get a bit more adventurous and give us a new-gen open world alien game. Base building/development. Abduction. R&D. Destructible Environments. Semi-humourous gameplay. You will make, so, so much money. People really like this genre and no-one is doing it. EDIT: This review is proving to be quite popular so I thought I'd add an addendum. I actually kicked off (one of) the most recent waves of interest in remaking destroy all humans: https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/a4zi0d/someone_seriously_needs_to_make_a_game_similair/ I think combined with this review I'm demonstrating the popularity of this genre quite clearly. THQ Nordic I beseech thee, if you don't do it then it's just money left on the table for something else!Show moreShow less
I loved the original game. Dev's, to there credit, did a great job of remaking it for modern systems, but they've also made a few radical changes and pretty much every update, change or improvement they made was either poorly executed, or unbalanced the game in some way. For instance, let's start with character models. When they updated to graphics, the devs decided to go for a more cartoonish look for the human NPCs, and I actually agree that this was the right move. Destroy all Humans is a silly game, and going for photo realistic look just wouldn't work. Problem is, they took it a bit too far. NPCs don't look cartoonish, they look like characteratures of cartoons, and bottom line, they're just really ugly. The rest of the world is gorgeous, just not the NPCs Another example is the grinding. In the original game, every so often, you would have grind for brain stems (basically the games currency) to continue the plot. This was a determent to the original game so I happy they removed it. Problem is, the grinding served a purpose. You didn't turn in those brain stems, you got to keep them to spend on upgrades. The brain stem grind was there to make sure you were properly prepared for the next level. You still have to grind for upgrades, in fact you have to grind more because the dev's added a bunch of NEW upgrades. The only difference is that you decide when it's time to grind Speaking of those upgrade. let's talk about the dash ability, and more specifically, the zero friction upgrade. This at first glance is a great QOL upgrade. One of the week game play points of the original game was how long it took to get from one point to another. even with the jetpack, the game really suffered without a dash or sprint ability. The Dash and slide upgrades are a great improvement, but the Problem is, the zero friction upgrade lets you run literal circles around enemies. With a bit of practice, you're pretty much unhitable, and since you can use your weapons and powers freely while sliding, you can mow through wave's of soldiers and majestic agent like they are nothing. But even without the zero friction upgrade, the game's just too easy now. NPCs with guns attacks are slower and easier to dodge. They took away the psychic majestic agent's ability to nullify you own psychic powers. Tanks can now be thrown via telekinesis just as easily as cars, which pretty much negates any threat they would have posed to you. I'll admit, the original game could be frustrating at times, but the challenge was enjoyable for the most part. the remake has no challenge whatsoever, and no challenge, for me at least, means no replayability Overall, the games a good remake, but It just isn't as good as the original. I'm hoping take the mistakes they made to heart with Destroy All Humans 2. They really did tryShow moreShow less

A sanitized take on a PS2 classic. I'm all for old games getting full remakes, but don't go out of your way to make it a 99% remake and then cut out parts you think might be "too dark." I played the original multiple times, so when I booted this up with its pretty new graphics and heard the exact same dialogue files, I was actually pretty happy. Until I threw someone into a tree with my mind. In the original, there would be a "crunch" sound effect to give the action a bit of weight. Nothing like Saw sound effects in that it was realistic and trying to make you squirm, just something to make it a little more impactful and make you feel like you were really tossing around "puny humans." Now the only sound is a little "woosh" to indicate the throw, but there is literally no sound effect for the impact itself. Literally nothing. I looked up videos online just to make sure my game wasn't bugged/missing files. If you don't want a crunch of bones, fine, but not even a thump? And similarly, extracting brains. Used to be you could make people's heads burst to harvest their brains, and you still can, but they changed the sound effect to what I can only describe as "barely audible." In the original game you'd get a cartoony "POP" whenever it happened, but now it sounds like nothing at all is happening. Its just weird to me to make a remake this faithful but then water it down to take out the "edge". Why do a shot-for-shot remake for the fans, but then make it an almost E-rated version. I want to recommend this, but as far as updated visuals may take this I can't bring myself to even finish it, so I definitely can't recommend it.Show moreShow less
Destroy All Humans! Destroy All Humans! is a remake of 2005 game and it's very close to original in many aspects. At the same time game looks amazing and (almost) perfectly polished. We play as an evil alien named Crypto-137 in 1950's USA (with all essential stereotypes included). Each mission takes place in a half-open location and is conventionally non-linear in most cases, but there is no great freedom of action either. There's a lot of hilarious cinematics that are mixed with gameplay sequences - humor is definitely the strongest part of the game. Unreal Engine 4 works great here and I've encountered only one issue with performance on one of the last bosses (RoboPres) where I had to reduce graphic setting to low to avoid weird lagspikes on phase 2-3 (definitely not a PC FPS issue). Every other technical aspect of the game was just great. It took me 6,5 hours to complete campaign with a majority of achievements and I suppose it would take another 3 hours to complete all the rest. There's next to no replayability beside completing achievements and a couple of additional challenges. Destroy All Humans! gameplay is a little bit awkward in some moments, because it kept most of original mechanics and I constantly had a nostalgic feeling that I'm playing an old game (not exactly 2005's original but old game in general). It was a good feeling most of the times but some mechanics looked too outdated and some actions that are supposed to be fun were kinda generic/boring. All in all, Destroy All Humans! is a great remake of a hilarious game that definitely won't disappoint people who played original game and wanted to experience it again while it could also entertain new players. 8/10 More reviews on our Curator PageShow moreShow less
I love the original 2 DAH games, they're amazing, and i was super excited for this game and am so sad to say this is not the game i was hoping for. All of the unlockables through probes that are actually worth getting are gone, the weapons feel nerfed, your powers no longer have an actual mana bar or whatever, theres waaay too many upgrades, and my biggest reason for thumbs downing this game: THE ADULT LANGUAGE AND HUMOR IS SO CENSORED!!! the original game was super raunchy and more adult. for example, kidnapping miss Rockwell, Krypto takes her back to his ship and clearly starts using his powers to start doing some unruly things to her and is interrupted by cops. In this version, the entire part of him messing around with her is cut and it just jumps straight to the stupid cops. And that kind of thing is constant in this game, all of the humor is made so much weaker and childlike. Ruined the game for me.Show moreShow less
