I liked this game. I really did. But then the developer made the decision to hand of the publishing rights to a scumbag company that uses genAI and I quote "to cut costs" which is incredibly disgusting. Every single video on socials is made with a garbage AI voice instead of promoting their creators who put actualy effort into the game and their content. This is disgusting, disgraceful and simply inhumane. Krafton is garbage and everything they make is as wellShow moreShow less

New publisher established a third party EULA. It's mostly not bad but some terms are intolerable: Extra edit: There's a "less spicy" version of this in the steam discussions that actually gives some thoughts on how to address these. Please also check it out. Or don't, I ain't your boss. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1062520/discussions/0/600775554275231724/ Extra extra edit: as of April 15th KRAFTON is being sued in India for allegedly selling user data against contract. *******Disclaimer because I keep getting "ima lawwwyer and yer stewwwwpid" comments: 1. The publisher has the right to put whatever they want in their EULA. Legally, all of these are probably FINE. Legally. Actually enforceable? Remains to be seen. Reasonable? Nope. 2. As the consumer we have the right to decide if we are willing to ACCEPT those terms. Or not, as the case may be. If we are expected to enter an agreement that requires a lawyer to parse then the agreement isn't doing its job- at that rate it's dealing in bad faith. 3. Boilerplate standard legalese copypasta does NOT automatically make a term acceptable, and if that's your standard you really need to consider the CONTEXT of how hyperoptimized these kinds of agreements are in the favor of the IP holder vs the userbase. If you can clear that hurdle and still say "yup that's just fine!" take a moment to consider just how far into corruption you've fallen. 4. Finally: CONTEXT MATTERS. Any of these terms has a time and a place. A predominantly single player peer to peer co-op game is NOT the time nor place. I re-iterate here, just because it's normal doesn't make it ok. I might well accept all of these terms in a different setting. They don't have a place HERE (at least, not as written). ****************************************************************************************End disclaimer. "without written permission from Company, use, advertise or exploit in any manner the Game, the Documentation or the Services (in each case in whole or in part) for non-personal, commercial purposes;" -Bye bye YouTube vids. Chrissy pointed out in the comments that this may not be so big of a deal as an earlier segment of the TOS permits gameplay videos- but there's a question of paywalled content such as patreon or youtube members. "use the Game, or permit use of the Game, in a network, multi-user arrangement or remote access arrangement, including any online use, except as otherwise allowed through normal operation of the Game (as it is intended to be played) or explicitly permitted by Company in writing;" - So, no family sharing. Is this even enforceable? "harm the reputation of Company, our affiliates, our service providers or licensors, or the reputation of the Game, the Documentation or the Services;" - You've already done it yourself. But seriously? Is this a joke? "Harm the reputation?" WTF. "exploit errors and bugs found while playing the Game, the Documentation or using the Services;" - Again, is this realistically enforceable? Also, why is this a TOS thing? It's our right to do what we want with a game we bought. It literally can't hurt anyone. "use, develop, advertise, trade, or distribute unauthorized programs, including but not limited to any programs that intercept communications in the Game between a game and a game server or between a Service and its server, or any unauthorized third-party programs or Devices that may affect the Game or normal game play or access to the Services (including but not limited to hacks, cheats, helpers, bots, scripts, trainers, automatic programs, automatic mouse, mouse with macro function, programs that collect or modify game data by reading the game memory, etc.)." - No modding. This line explicitly bans modding the game. This level of stupidity is just... embarrassing. "manipulate the Game or Services in an unfair way or otherwise access or use the Game or Services in a manner that confers an unfair advantage or disadvantage to any player including yourself;" - What unfair advantage? What inter-player competition is in this chill island builder game? Also, how the friction do you intend to enforce this? "use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the location of your use or Device, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on the use of the Game, the Documentation or Services or for any other purpose or in a way that violates these Terms" - bans using any sort of VPN. A lot of terms are protective at the users, but these highlighted terms are expressly anti-consumer. Unenforceable and frankly unacceptable. I'll consider changing this to the deserved review when this EULA is revised. EDIT: I just noticed that I posted this on April 1st. NO this is not a joke or prank post. Read the EULA when prompted on launching the game.Show moreShow less
The game is great. I kindly wish to raise your awareness to people trying to cheat you out of your steam points: The following comment is copy and paste from a lot of reviews on steam. People do that to trick you into giving you steam points (the steam currency) by posting something to appeal to your human compassionate aspect thereby ripping you off because it is all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, lies and deceipt. "I am a 52 year old father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my son, who is now 16. My son recently started Dinkum and in less than a week, he had already played for over 20 hours. This was terrible for me, as it was already hard enough for me to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching videos on Tiktok. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, did the tutorial but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought my son and I closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories."Show moreShow less
Selling thousands of copies of a game to people only to turn around and require us to literally sell our identity in order to play it is beyond unethical. I had a lot of fun playing Dinkum in early access, and was highly anticipating the full release. However, this new EULA by Krafton is unacceptable in every aspect. There is no reason I should have to sign away my identity and my rights to my personal information to this degree just to play a non-competitive single player game. If this was an MMO or competitive game, I could understand the amount of data collection and monitoring of player activity, but as it stands, there is no reason the company should even have access to a lot of this information, let alone be saving it or selling it for any reason. I understand that data collection is a normal part of gaming and service agreements, and that a certain amount of data selling is par for the course these days. However, this EULA does not align with what the Krafton representatives are claiming is in the agreement.Show moreShow less
UPDATE DOWN BELOW the game has really great potential..... it took the best parts of stardew valley and animal crossing and put it in a 3d-game with love to detail. theres animals, ressources, crafting, ..... however me and my gf were a little disappointed that the multiplayer doesnt give us the full coop feeling yet - you can visit each others islands but cant progress in the town quest together. this was a huge bummer since it would be perfect if the multiplayer worked the way it does in stardew valley: sharing a bank account and progressing together. all players have seperate bank accounts and also their own inventory which is not world-dependend, means you can take it to other servers, just like in terraria. i wanna make clear that you can farm, craft and do most things on the island(s) you visit. but you dont have a permanent place yet and cant finish or progress in town quests if you arent the host. for us it doesnt feel enough coop yet, so we wait at least for the guest house to be available (#1 on the road map) and then we start playin. i know that the developer is looking into multiplayer progression, so no need for a refund, no need for a rant. looking forward to play it for a longer time - i just wish we could play it with shared progression already. CANT WAIT FOR IT :) GREAT GAME! cheers UPDATE (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!!!) yeah...we couldnt resist and gave it a shot BEFORE the update with the guest house was released. we played about 60hrs until the time of this update. heres how it went: it is a bit buggy still but all in all pretty ok. the game never crashed, no safe files were corrupted and even with mods the game worked quiet well. it was nice to play and we had fun together .however to give you more details about what i meant with "not full coop experience yet", here is what we noticed "visiting players" aka your coop partners cant do: - youre not able to buy/carry/sell animals bought from the store - your not able buy deeds and/or move any house in the town - donating bugs/fish/critters to the museum does not count for both ppl (or at least it didnt work for us). - only the host needs to befriend visitors in order to get them to stay. the visiting players have their own relations to them. - recipes for furniture or building stuff that can be bought are different for each person connected to the game. it can be a lamp for the one person, where the other one can buy a bench recipe - both on the same spot. however if one person buys the recipe its gone for both. - you cant go underground if you arent hosting the game. the item you need to get down there only works if the host is carrying itShow moreShow less
With James february partnership with Krafton and their vague QA on forced data collection/mining i cannot recommend this title anymore. Krafton is accused of legal issues of selling personal data to 3 parties with no consent. That alone is a turnoff. I bought the game from indie dev and supported it, not some shady mega corp.Show moreShow less
I like this game very much! but I will love it more if there are cats in the game. Here I will leave the cat, friends who pass by can pet it and give it a thumbs up /> フ | _ _ l /` ミ_xノ / | / ヽ ノ │ | | | / ̄| | | | | ( ̄ヽ__ヽ_)__) \二つShow moreShow less
I loved the game when it initially released. But I can't in good conscience recommend it now that Krafton is the publisher. (The same publisher who screwed over the Subnautica devs.) Krafton is not a player-friendly publisher. Krafton hates mods, which have been a decent part of this game from the get go. As stated in their EULA, using mods with Dinkum now runs the risk of them *removing your access to the game*. I wish James all the best in future endeavors... but aligning with such a shady, profit-over-player driven company who's best interest is themselves... is not a good move.Show moreShow less
