Underwhelming. I was really expecting to like this, but the gameplay is just tedious to me. The voice acting was amazing, music was fun, the artstyle and animations are great and I love the up close inspections changing the art of what you're looking at. That's such a fun way to do this. I also liked the story, and the payoff at the end However I was kindof expecting a puzzle game, and this definitely isn't. It feels more like when you're watching a detective show and the detective suddenly pulls out a crazy theory, that afterwards turns out to be true. I spent a lot of time trying to "solve" the mystery with things I knew or tried to find more information, but you end up basically having to guess at what happened based on the words you have available. It didn't feel like there was logic behind a lot of the 'answers' and more like I was crossing off wrong answers until I found one that fit.Show moreShow less
my only complaint is that it is too short. have more cases for the duck detective to solve please! he needs the money to afford that sweet sweet bread.Show moreShow less
The game is VERY short, and I feel like I wasn't the target audience at all. This is something a very young child would enjoy as an introduction to gaming. It's not a bad game, it just missed its mark and I was fooled by the overwhelmingly positive rating. The story is too simple, you only get to solve 1 case, I was half expecting after solving the mystery to have more cases to solve, or for the story to evolve in some way, it felt like an "intro" mystery to get you accustomed to how the game plays out. The voice acting is great, and I liked the characters, I'd love to see the game expand in the future.Show moreShow less

I don't usually condemn a game for length, but I feel like I didn't get as much as I wanted out of this experience. It's a very good game in all technical aspects. It's funny, well-written, well voice-acted and has a cute artstyle but it felt like a prologue and not a $10 product. The mystery was simple and I figured out exactly what the mystery was before obtaining all the keywords and you will spend most of your time swapping words around to figure out the exact combination of key phrases it wants which I don't think is a very good mechanic. If you're looking for a very simple game and don't mind the price, then I would say go for it. But I think for a majority of people $12.99 CAD is going to leave them disappointed.Show moreShow less

I really don't want to come off saying that Duck Detective is a bad game. The art style and visuals are great, the audio and voice acting are solid, and the mechanics behind the mystery gameplay are engaging. And the low price point certainly lines up with the short play time. But seeing that this is currently rated as Overwhelmingly Positive, I can't really bring myself to say that I recommend it. The title character, Duck Detective, is woefully underutilized. On paper, it is such a great character concept, with a catchy name and a striking visual design. But there is very little relevance to the Duck part of the character. I can only name three things: There is a dedicated Quack button, a core detective mechanic is a pun in which you make DeDUCKtions, and the character has a drug-like addiction to bread. All of these are experienced within the first few minutes of the game. For the rest of the game, nothing about being a duck is relevant, not mechanically, not narratively, not even for comic relief. This game could have been Dog Detective or even Human Detective, and it would have been a nearly identical experience. None of the other animal characters have any relevant animal quirks either. For a game that screams "You are a DUCK!", they really don't seem to embrace that detail. While the core mystery solving mechanics are enjoyable, a lot of the execution doesn't really come together. There were a number of moments throughout the game where I felt like I had all of the information available to me, but I still didn't understand what DeDUCKtion the game wanted me to come to. Because there's no penalty for getting it wrong, and you are just immediately informed when it is correct, there's incentive to just keep guessing until you stumble into the right answer. Even after seeing what some of the DeDUCKtions were meant to be, I still didn't understand how you were supposed to come to that conclusion. The game clearly marks everything you can investigate, so I feel confident that I didn't just miss something. It would have been much more satisfying and enjoyable if the details of the case had come together more cohesively, instead of just arbitrarily coming up with conclusions that seemed entirely out of left field. Those two major elements left me unsatisfied with the Duck Detective experience. If $10 is no object and you want to see the game with the cute duck, by all means, go for it. But if you were hoping for a genuinely great duck-centric mystery solving game, then maybe just keep your fingers crossed for the sequel.Show moreShow less
ducktective from gravity falls but far better. super cute characters and amazing voice castingShow moreShow less
Am surprised for the number of positive reviews for the game, it wasn't bad but it didn't break any new grounds nor gave a real compelling mystery or anything spectacular, there have been other detective games like tangle tower, Case of the Golden Idol and Sherlock Holmes games that actually did it better and offered more than the game. That said, I wish there was a neutral rating you can give to the game. Good + Superb artwork, love the 2D cutouts reminds me of Wildermyth style, cutesy and fun. + Superb voice acting, the voice actor for the duck detective is funny and oh so natural, not so for some of the others. + The detective noir vibe is good (but will never beat Discworld Noir the GOAT). + Wish there were more mysteries or the game was longer, it felt too short for its potential. Bad - Too short, I paid how much for a single mystery and 2 hour game play to solve the puzzles? - Some of the puzzles are to obscure and not so intuitive, the hint system helps but not by much. - you can brute force some of the puzzles but not as well executed as the Obra Dinn or Golden Idol did for their games. - The interaction and crime solving are superficial, the clue check is too simple and automatic, the dialogues don't really offer much in choice, there were two major puzzles which does take some deducting but also wasn't intuitive. - Nothing groundbreaking in the genre. All in all the game has potential and I hope the developers will look into a sequal and expand upon this unpolished gem and how best to keep its good points while addressing the shortcomings, it wasn't totally bad but just not outstanding.Show moreShow less
