I want to give this game a 10/10 - But can't for one reason. Dynasty Warriors Origins played like I felt the original games played, back on Playstation 2. The combat was fun, and the story has more depth than the originals and it was an unexpected hit of nostalgia right at the start of 2025, from a simpler time. I give this game a solid 9/10 - It has the Nostalgia value and is genuinely a fun game to me. Where'd the 1 go? They removed something important to me. This was the game I played Co-Op with my older brother, taking on Wu and Wei as the sworn brothers of Shu with each release, before going back and trying other characters. They hit every important aspect of a Dynasty game, except that one. Splitscreen Local Co-Op or Online would have made this game a perfect 10/10 to me.Show moreShow less
Heads up: not recommended for the asking price, get it on sale. As expected it looks good, music is as always nice (even tho not fitting for the era). Combat is largely fluently. Various mechanics, actual duels and a combat system with parries and counters work well. Travelling china adds immersion, but not much gameplay and is a lot better done then the last time they tried... On a sidenote: the pre-order costume looks garbage, worse then the default -.- Drawbacks are obvious: The main menu only allows to start campaign. No quick battle choosing w/e hero you want in w/e scenario available. Neither character editor nor selection... you are the generic little guy ... always. There is just the one campaign, once you finished it there is very little reason to continue playing. You cannot pick 1 of several dozen heroes and play the battles they took part in (or could have), you can't just pick any char and any scenario (like beating up Lu Bu with Diao Chan or killing Zhang Jiao as Zhang Jiao), there is only 3 difficulties and with no characters to choose from there is also no "historical" strategies to employ in battles nor is there "quests" to farm a characters unique weapon. RPG elements with unlocks and skillpoints translates to mindless grind...you run around the map to enter skirmishes, extremely small generic battlefields (take 1 base, kill 1 commander...) over and over again to farm. Only 9 different weapons = 9 different movesets and their unlock is locked behind campaign progression. All in all the reboot and campaign is a solid attempt, but relegating all beloved (or hated) characters to simple NPC's in the background and completely removing widely varying campaigns, movesets, unique weapons and quick play is just not worth it.Show moreShow less

Definitely not worth $70 and it's actually a little outrageous that its sold at that. For that price you should be getting a pretty damn premium game, which this one is not. It's not a bad game at all, the battles are fun although kind of short and the combat is engaging too. However the graphics, storyline and customization are pretty mid, like 2010 mid. I liked the game but after playing a few hours i couldn't justify the $70 and returned it. I'll wait for a sale.Show moreShow less
It's actually fun. It's engaging. Build on this. Cherish this. Bring us an empires that doesn't suck and we might see KOEI make a game i can recommend again.Show moreShow less
I wanted to love this game, but it's repeatedly committing the sin that I feel makes or breaks this kind of experience, though I fully understand some might not agree. Your army is not only useless, but a liability. It didn't quite feel so at first, but I'm in battles where I'm racing from bonus objective to bonus objective, attempting to keep the Morale up, because the game tells you with high morale your army generals will beat the enemy army generals, but more often than not this is a lie. You cut through the fields of battle, enemy generals and soldiers alike falling like wheat to your blade (sometimes weirdly health spongy wheat) as you clear bases and castles, only to then have to jump on your horse and ride all the way back to your base camp because your flank has collapsed and they're threatening your leader. And while you're gone from the front to stop the auto game over death of your leader, all the other generals die, and the front line collapses. Time sprint all the way back to solo 2000+ plus soldiers and slog through it. You are not a heroic warrior tipping the scale of battle, you are the entire fighting force and no one can do anything without you. There has to be a middle ground between you feeling powerful and your allies not being useless directionless toddlers.Show moreShow less
I had a very pleasant experience with this game. It's the Best Dynasty Warriors game in over a Decade. ❤ ------------------------------------ I think fans of the series would like to see a Character creator/More outfits to wear/More Weapons/And possibly Co-op added into the game/In a sequel. Great Job Koei 👍 🌹Show moreShow less
Even though I like this game and I am still playing it, I can't recommend it, due to many frustrating design choices : - Bodyguards appearance/weapons is not customizable, only their tactics; - Many outfits are now available but you cannot customize them color wise either; - On ultimate difficulty, allied officers are next to useless and you end up spending your time babysitting them like toddlers because if you dare letting them alone for 1 minute, then end up dying... I know the Franchise is supposed to make you feel like a 1 man army, but still, that went too far; That also makes the battles very narrow in term of options. You can never go to battle to spot Y before spot x otherwise officer Z will die and you will fail the mission. - Enemy officers just become huge health pool sponges and special attacks spammers on Ultimate difficulty, as the sole uncreative way to raise their difficulty. That makes the battles very repetitive, and you feel like every named enemy is like a brick wall for no particular reason. - I wish there were more way to influence morale of our troops and also make it more impactful. Currently it seems it's mainly the enemy who benefits from its boosts; - The grind to level up all the weapons is insane and also required to grow your overall strenght, even though you don't plan to never use some of them. After the extension, all weapons are required to be level 13, and you need all the perks you can get in order to tackle the hardest challenges of the game; - The dialogue choices are not really choices and make the story quite dull. Basically : Option 1 : Yes. Option 2 : Yeah; - Main character has the charism of a potato by the way. Also, don't pursue Lu Bu.Show moreShow less
Severely disappointed. Not in the game, the game is amazing. I'm disappointed in Koei. They were capable of making games THIS fun and just didn't for so long?! If the new Atelier game is any good, this will be the year of the Koei Sweep.Show moreShow less
Missing half of the plot, which you may never get... Game ends at the Battle of Chibi and developer is NOT going to release the rest of the story as DLC. They "may" make a sequel Origin 2 if the game sales well... it feels that 90$ of only half of the original goodness... what a ripoffShow moreShow less
