The game was great until they took away freedom of speech in the last update. Why would you blur swear words in an adult rated game!!! At the very least the team could have added a profanity filter in the menu that can be turned on and off!!!Show moreShow less

I want to be careful with what I say because I am a hobbyist game developer myself and know the time and effort that is put into things like this. But to be as frank as possible, the game just isn't good. Visually the game is fantastic, it is perhaps the most "accurate" portrayal of the backrooms I have seen in any game, and looks stunning without killing my frame rate issues. Gameplay-wise, it is a game I wouldn't recommend anyone buy for $9.99. In short, the game simply lacks good game design. A couple of examples would be the ending of the party room, in which the player is meant to hide under the table to make their way across the room full of enemies. You are able to barely make it if you time everything properly. The result of you failing is getting to slowly make your way through the level again. This is one of the examples I see as the dev equating hard for no reason with "challenging," and challenging inherently being worth the effort. The End is a level that made me go on my own philosophical journey about game design as I died again and again to the monster. This level simply lacks any kind of gimmick or really any kind of gameplay mechanic at all. Playing with friends, we tried many different things from moving slowly, running fast, standing still if it saw us, etc. The fact of the matter is, this is just a monster that roams, and if it sees you, you die. No place to hide, no way to outrun it, if it sees you, you die. And if there is a gameplay mechanic, it just does not work, I think the issue with a lot of indie game devs is that in their minds, making the game hard = making the game fun. But there is no satisfaction in beating a hard level if it makes you think you should have beaten it 20 attempts ago. When done well, a challenging game makes the player think the inability to win is a flaw of their own they need to overcome. In this game, I can't help but see it as a flaw in the game. Now to find a crew to get the nightmare achievement with...Show moreShow less

Only positive thing about this game is that it conveys the ambience of the concept of "the backrooms" pretty convincingly. If only the creators realised that the ambience is the only thing that makes this game cool and toned down the ridiculous parkour aspect of it a bit, it might be a lot more enjoyable. The big problem is the enemies you encounter: they have certain rules for when they do or don't chase you and how you can escape them. After a run or two in each level generally you will get the hang of it and know how to apply it to get to the end. However at some points the AI is so wacky that the correct "route" to navigate through them becomes extremely precise. Figuring that out at these points feels more like gambling and grinding, and that's not what I bought this game for. Moreover: they have a discord, do not expact any help from there. If you indicate you get stuck on something, you will just get made fun of by the mods for not trying to understand the game. When you give any feedback, they'll respond by basically stating you are not trying hard enough to enjoy the game.Show moreShow less

EDIT #3: looks like a lot of fake steam reviews. That's on par with their fake discord users. EDIT #2: response for the dev. Yeah man, that's definitely not what either of us saw (in relation to bans)... The admin's name was "Nebula". It looked like negativity suppression beyond removing toxic/destructive users. We made it past the first level, we didn't make it past the parking garage level. Any time someone on our team died it reset everything, it was frustrating/boring enough that we didn't come back after the game crashed to change the difficulty down 1 notch. Don't worry about the discord, I don't need back in. I will say this, if the game improves and I see good feedback I'll come back to give it a second try. But what we saw looked like a quick/dirty early access pump and dump. EDIT: 21k people in their discord and admins are actively banning people who talk negatively about this game. How are there 21k legit people in their discord? Seems like a red flag to me if they can't handle the few people who show up to give feedback. There's no inventory, there's no hints, there's no lore, there's no cool readables/docs, there's no direction, there's no items, there's no health, there's no survival aspects besides "run" and manage stamina. You touch something? YOU DIE, there's no health, and the entire team resets immediately if you selected any difficulty besides easy. Btw good luck running away from stuff, they're so relentless/fast that you're screwed the moment an enemy has their sights on you. All of the difficulties except easy will ♥♥♥♥ you if ANYONE on your team dies (instant restarts/punishment). There's also no checkpoints for MP, only SP. Bought this for me and a friend. We played "Into the Backrooms" and saw this one before it came out, expecting what looked like a higher quality and more well thought out game based on the pictures/art. It is not. Also crashed within the first 20 minutes. Absolutely trash. Really annoyed by the super grainy/blurry film grain effect that covers the entire game. Made my eyes hurt, felt like I needed glasses in-game. Refunding.Show moreShow less
